If anyone is interested in learning Morse Code, actually I'm trying to do some tutorial for a fast learning. It could improve realism on the game by sending morse cyphred messages by TeamSpeak.
This is the best page to learn Morse in just a few weeks, maybe days if you are constant and enough patient.

{EDIT, ok I found the current daily setting for April. so good on that score, am curious if there is a back log for old code sheets? particularly Feb. ( was looking at the Morse code thread and can't find older daily settings to decode)}

You may be using the wrong UKW setting. There are two wheels that say C. One of them will say Krigsmarine. This is the one you want.
I tried to decode your message but could not. Keep trying.
Well done Dragunov !
This is your transcript :
KALEUN. ERICH. LANGEFELD. IS. REPORTING. FOR. DUTY. SIR. I. HAVE. TAKEN. COMMAND. OF. UUU DREI ZWEI NUL. STARTING. FROM. KIEL. NOEVEMBER. ONE NINE FOUR ZERO.
The only thing is you don't have to put a "." after each word do as in real life.
In your message, for example :
Rather than writing : KALEUN X ERICH X LANGEFELD X IS X REPORTING X FOR
Write : KALEUN ERICH LANGEFELD IS REPORTING FOR X
In your text "UUU DREI ZWEI NUL" and "ONE NINE FOUR ZERO" was done correctly because you don't insert a dot or an X after each word...
But that's very good for a start ! :yep:
So X = "."
You can also use Y for ","
Also, one more thing, for posting messages and transcripts use the right thread called : Post all enigma messages here.
Thanks.
JMV.

Is this Enigma Flotilla only for SH3 users? Or are SH5 allowed in also?
It's related to SH3 campaign, but you can always use the Enigma machine for training independently as it's a program independant from SH3.
You just won't be able to post any contact reports etc...because anything we post is SH3 related.
Thank you for your interest.

05-15-2010, 04:02 PM
Ahh so how does the contact report work within the SH3 community? If someone sees a convoy and reports it; how will anyone else be able to attack said convoy if theyr using a different game..
BDU Comments- Our status and contact reports are given by the SHIII grid system (AM61) and reported
to Operation Spinnes (sp) where they are entered on the SHIII grid Map. If some one sent us a status
or contact report from SH4 or 5 it would mean nothing to us.

Me confused:hmmm:
At this point we do not multiplay. We eventially will try to set up multiplay for our Flotilla.
We simulate what a real U-Boot Captain had to do. We send codded Enigma Messages to BDU and receive messages back.
We submit status and contact reports which allows us to track our Flotilla U-Boots using Canovaro's OS mod.
We have a Headquarters with a chat room, movie theater, library, and many other things.
We can use an officer with multiplay experience.

There are no stupid questions so ask what ever you do not understand.
The Flotilla Enigma is not for our gamers who want to have fun blowing
up ships. It is for those who while playing want to put themselves in
the shoes of a read U-Boot Captain.
BDU is open 5-7 hours per day to respond to the Flotilla.
Training in Status Reports and Contact Reports:
You will ned to go to Canovaro's operation spinnennetz (http://operationspinnennetz.isaf.us/com) and download his mods (I recommend that you have a E Flotilla file on your desktop). You can find him at the subsim SHIII forum.
Play around with it & check the contact & status maps. You can do your status & contact updates yourself. However, we need to keep BDU advised so rather them doing them our selfs we go to our Headquarters and use the forms. The Enigma form is for codded messages (can't let the
Brits know where we are) Untill you are trained send them in english.
BDU Will respond to most of your messages.
The Contact/Status reports will be used to send information to BDU so we can put your U-Boot on the operation spinnennetz (http://operationspinnennetz.isaf.us/com) map. Status form is for your U-Boot. The Contact form will place your reported convoy sighting on the other map.
This is required at least once a week (we like more) unless you are on approved leave.
We can discuss request for assignment after you are trained.
BDU is not just for me. It is for all Flotilla members. BDU is not the smartest organization so we listen for positive/negative coments from all Flotilla members. Be creative and voice concerns and new Ideas.
After your training promotion (Oberleutnant zur See) you will be moved from the Recruit status to Active Status.
Promotions are based on your activity with the Flotilla & The submission
of reports. Bdu monitors how many times you are on the subsim forum and on our subforum. If you are on subsim forum five times a week we havnt heard from you you will be placed on Pending Status, then MIA Status and finaly KIA status.
We do approve vacations and place you on Active Reserve Status (most of us have real lives that can interupt gameing).

Sorry BDU, but you say :
"I recommend that you have a E Flotilla file on your desktop"
What is that E Flotilla file and where to find it.
Is Canovaro's KonvoiMap.tga updated regularly ? Because I never see any mention of my convoi or contacts reports beeing updated on the map....
Are contacts transmitted to Canovaro on a regular basis ?
You give us Here : http://operationspinnennetz.isaf.us/com/#anchor
a map for OS Coordinates. Then what should be used for contacts reports ?
This way : X = 3100
Y = 1029
or this way : AF 3226
For the first one, due to the scale, it seems to be less precise than the second ( especially if you use the grid overlay that I had made )
Also it seems to me that for other members, giving a coordinate in encripted messages such as AF 3226 is more quickly understandable than under the X = 3100 Y = 1029 way, because they have to go to the coordinates map every time to figure out where you are exactly...
Thank you

It is a file on the desktop for recruits to keep training material.
Are you sending the status/contacts in yourself? If so his server will take a while to update. All reports should be done from the HQ forms. They will go to me and I update the reports to the OS maps.
In Canovaros program there are two maps (status/contacts). When the forms aare filled out they go directly to me and I place them on the maps, If you want to check on where convoys were spotted, or where subs are you have to bring up the maps from Canovaro's OS program.
Location of convoys is the same as your status report ie, BE67, For SH5 players they would enter ie, 140km SE of Brest.
As far as sending locations we should use the simple (in game) map as some players have problems with the world wide grid system and Long/Lat. I will ask Canovaro if he can add a SH5 map to his program.
When you (all) send in reports do it from the Headquarters forms. They will come to me and I will enter them on the OS maps. By using the in game grids it makes it easier for me.
Cheers,
Ken

It could be me, but I don´t understand what the benefit of this map is.
We are all playing at defferent "game years" are we not?
So how can this information from other players be benefitial for me?
Suppose I´m plaing in sept 1941 and someone has sighted an convoy in a game which is taking place in 1942?
Or is this just a tool to keep track of what everybody is doing?

The contact map has all reported convoys from 1939-1945. If your in game date is January 1941. You can go to the contact map and see if any other Captains reported a contact on or near that date. Game years are indicated by color. Like in real life it does not always mean the convoy is there.

Two questions:
1) Does this need to be a new career? I'm currently on my 1st patrol with this guy in Oct '40, but I am already at sea, so I wanted to know if I need to start over or not.
2) If we're reporting contacts directly through Bdu, do we need the OS download from Operation Spinnennetz?
I don't know what the BDU will say to that, but :
1- Since you're on your 1st patrol, I don't think you have to start over again.
2- Since you're reporting contacts directly through BDU, I don't think you need the OS download from Operation Spinnennetz, EXCEPT from the updated contact map that you can include in your draggable items in F5.
My 2 cents. :03:
And welcome by the way !!

No, however you will not be able to see the location map or contacts map.
You do not need a new career and you do not need to start over.
You can not be promoted unless you pass the training course.
I need a PM from you requesting reassignment to Enigma Flotilla. We will then promote you to Leutnant zur See, start your training & give you the Recruit in training signature.

A plain brown envelope is delivered to the Enigma Flotilla headquarters. Nothing really distinguishes it from any of the other envelopes delivered that morning from the letter carrier.
Inside, on simple letterhead, is a memo. It reads:

From: Marineschule Mürwik
Herr Kommodore,
Mürwik Academy is transferring to your command Maximilian Nedved to fill the position of commanding officer of U-46 of the Enigma Flotilla. Please provide him with any additional training he may require prior to his first patrol.

I would like to introduce Korvettenkaptain Thomen. He is BDU Chief of Staff (COS) and second in Command of Flotilla Enigma.
We have made a policy change in that we now use the Krigsmarine Grid Map to report all our locations and contacts.
Go to:http://hstrial-enigma1.intuitwebsites.com/U-BootTracking.html (http://hstrial-enigma1.intuitwebsites.com/U-BootTracking.html)
There is a form there that you will use to send all reports (except Enigma Messages). Learn to use it as you will be reporting your location and status. Once you send it to BDU your location and any contacts will be placed on the grid map at this location (keep reports brief).
You will need to download your Enigma Machine and learn how to use it.http://www.esnips.com/doc/9a6a059f-77a4-46a5-aebc-1cc95abec3ae/Enigma-Simulator-6.4.3 (http://www.esnips.com/doc/9a6a059f-77a4-46a5-aebc-1cc95abec3ae/Enigma-Simulator-6.4.3)
While learning the Enigma you may send your messages in English (keep them brief and to the point).
There are tutorials in our subforum and also in the HQ training room.

EDIT: Seen the two new posts. I will work my way through everything and ask questions if I have any.
Original Post: I have downloaded and installed the enigma machine, though I have not learned how to use it heavily. I assume that there would be a training guide or link to one, sent to me once I was accepted as a recruit.
I understand that the BdU wants reports while on patrol, using enigma, as often as possible. Status reports. Contact reports. Weather reports. Etc. And that in order to remain active, these reports have to be sent as often possible.
Reports are sent via the thread here on the subsim.com forums. Not 100% sure if the submit report second on the HQ page is still used (if it isn't, then it should probably be taken down IMHO).
Positions will be updated on the Flotilla map. BdU may give special assignments or orders outside of the game that need to be carried out while in game.
Members of the flotilla should remain "in character" while giving reports.
I have SH3 and GWX 3.0 installed. I have a separate career set aside for this character ready to go once I finish flotilla recruit training.
My only questions really to clarify the proper procedure for submitting reports and hopefully, to receive some instruction in the use of the enigma machine. Other than that, everything seems pretty straight forward.

Looks like your moving at flank speed. Use the HQ status report (No Enigma) for your position updates. They come directly to me and I place your Boot on the map.
There are good tutorials on Enigma at the HQ training room and in threads in our sub-forum.
The Enigma is for clasified transmitions about ships sunk, weather reports, and so on. Until you learn the Enigma you can send these in English.
Keep your Install of GWX clean as I have a project you may be interested in.

I came to this forum after seeing several peoples signatures with the enigma flotilla link, and got curious about what enigma flotilla was. I play sh3/gwx sh4, and a very very heavy modded sh5. sh5 has all the elements of immersion i found missing from sh3, and sh3/gwx has all the gameplay elements missing from sh5 (more flotilla options, boats, crew management). :damn: my solution, is i do both, depending on mood. sh4 i play for my us fleet boat fix. though i find I'm here on the forums more than i find myself gaming. this community (subsim as a whole) is flat out addicting.
I've always had a soft spot for u-48, mostly because im a cat person, but her history and level of success I found most amazing. If my limited game play time isn't a problem (3-5hrs per week), i'd love to be a part of this.

Just to keep everyone in the loop, I am not MIA even before starting my career! This immersion playing style is something I am greatly interested in. I have been spending what free time I can scrounge in learning the enigma machine.
I am getting married at the end of the month, so whatever free time I normally have has quickly been consumed by focusing on the final preparations and details.
In a few weeks, however, I will be able to finish my flotilla training and undertake my first patrol in U-46. Until then, I respectfully request compassion leave and to be placed in reserve until such time.

Please note the U-99 was recently sunk off the Orkney's. Would it be a problem to use another sub number?
If you could, please send/receive three encoded messages on the practice thread located here:

please ask there if you have any questions.

Hello Gargamel,
You will need Sh3 Commander. It is a great app for running SH3/GWX3.0. it also allows for editing time between patrols.
You would start a war patrol in February, 1940, our current time period.
Suggest running a very short 'fitting out' patrol (can be in January 1940) to send/receive the three enigma messages. Doing the short fitting out patrol allows you to get the hang of the whole process and will let you manage your crew in SH3Co. You never have to go far from port for this. After you show ability to send/receive, orders will be made up for you.
For now will add you to the Roster as In Training.

Before adding to your flotilla it would be very nice that you tell me wich programs I need. What I mean is that of course I need SH3+GWX+SH3Commander+SH3Weather, but I want to know which mods do you use, because i understand that the main purpose of this forum is that everybody takes the same feeling while playing and make it the way like all were playing a multi-campaign. By the way I also hve the Enigma simulator.

Hello Complutum,
You have all that is needed. Sh3weather use is optional and I have been using it with random weather. If multiple subs leave on the same date, they could try setting weather with similar settings.
Sh3Co is used to start a career at the proper time or use the dates between patrols feature to come up to date when in port.
We are almost into spring 1940.

Complutum and Gargamel,
Have you both sent or received three encoded messages in the practice thread located here:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=165357&page=5
Need to know you can send/receive encoded messages. Please keep them brief as enemy D/F forces key in one radio messages (simulated).

Capt_Kluge,
Many examples of how to use the machine in the practice thread. Learn to encode and decode a message, then enjoy your patrol. Submit a short status report every so often while at sea, then a short non-coded report when patrol is finished in the thread you received your orders. Main thing is to just enjoy your SH3/GWX3 experience.

You are to depart a.s.a.p. and sail to patrol grid AN92 (shake down cruise)
When you´ve arrived you are to make a test dive to 120m.
During your travel to your PZ you are to make regular weather and position reports.
Report in before and after your test dive.
Send all your reports encrypted and through the encoded messages for B.d.U. channel.
Good luck
Langefeld, kapitän zur See.
To KzS Langefeld:
Orders confirmed.
Bootsnummer changed from U102 to U86, since U102 (Biermann) was already commissioned.
Encoded positional and weather reports will be sent to BdU as soon as the December codebook becomes valid.

"The Devils of the Deep" are getting ready to kick off a U-Boat campaign within the next few days. If you're interested in joining up and taking down some Allied shipping PM me with your SubSim name, career name in SH3 and your u-boat number.
We do have certain conditions though.
1. No outrageous super-subs!! The only game play mod currently allowed (and required) is GWX and SH3 Commander. You can have all the "eye candy" mods you want. I personally like "Torpedo Damage Final" and "Life Boats and Debris v4". To all those who assisted in their creation :shucks:.
2. You can play at whatever realism settings you like. However we base your ranking for your "End of Patrol" award on your realism setting times your total tonnage sunk. At the end of each patrol you'll have to send in your patrol report.
3. All communications will be done through encoded enigma messages, preferably in German (excuse me, "...auf Deutsch...bitte").
4. At the Devil's of the Deep HQ (http://web.me.com/kkentopanga/Subsim_Enigma_Flotilla/Home.html) there's a tracking map where you'll have to list your U-boat's position at all times.
We're trying to portray a fairly accurate u-boat campaign. Things will be tweaked here and there as necessary; but everyone's welcome!
