View Full Version : Looking for an active DW Fleet

Greetings -
I'm looking for an active DW fleet to participate in submarine operations. I know there are a few out there - Seawolves, US Virtual Navy, etc. - but what I'm looking for isn't what they - seemingly - provide.
I'm not interested in PvP or "dives" or "drops" against other players. What I'm looking for specifically is a virtual group that conducts submarine ops based on real world events (fictional or otherwise)... probably mostly single player missions vs AI or multi missions working as a team. These missions can be loner type missions or in concordance with other submarine or surface units as well ("combined ops" as it were).
To date I haven't been able to find a group that plays DW this way... the closest was The Virtual Navy, but at the time I joined them a couple years ago their DW section was negligible at best.
I have even toyed with the idea of trying to put together a group with these goals in mind - but frankly I just don't have the time to manage an online naval sim group unfortunately.
If anyone has any links or info I'd be greatly appreciative.
Thanks.

Honestly i really dont believe there is a virtual unit that plays this way. I mean conducting real submarine operations would way to boring with software like DW.

Well, realistic as in real-world type objectives and such. Not necessarily so realistic you're sitting there for hours with nothing but a blank waterfall display.
I realize this is a niche in an already niche product, but I'm still hopeful. I left earlier groups years ago because - to me - multiplayer games where we all "duke it out" are boring. This was one of the reasons why one group I was with started coming up with cross platform operation ideas.

Driftwood and I found a place like that a few years ago, but it didn't last more than a few months. Not even sure what their name was anymore... naval command maybe????

I think instead of fancy names and vast command structure concepts we should, like the good folks at IL-2 just host games and let people play.
I've been looking around and no luck on DW. I've left PMs, emails, suggestions, no response as always. And no I'm not wasting my time in IL-2, pretty as the aircraft are.

The nature of the game (implementation choices aside) doesn't lend itself to having a dedicated server. So that people can just "get in" and play.
If you want a stable multiplayer experience then you'll just have to "enroll" in some virtual navy, or have several friends that like the game so much that you can organize matches every so often.
The only website which has an infrastructure dedicated to planning matches/ tournaments etc... is CADC.
Thing is, apart from CADC and the international Seawolves virtual navy, most other virtual navies are "localised". You have Mille-sabords from france, Betasom and Marcosom from italy, the polish have a forum, as do the spanish. And of course they tend to play in their native language.
So people play DW, but the base is very fragmented and I'm not even touching on the mods issue.

We do conduct objective based missions we call them training where as you may conduct certain objectives in order to achieve your goal.
I myself play "against" ADM Clear ride and actively hunt him down but instead of throwing torpedos at him we shoot co-ordinates to rule the kill thus niether side fires a shot.
I do actively build and train on exercises such as fleet support amphib landings and carrier group escort clear ride will try and intercept the fleet i have to stop him again much like the real world we will fire off lats (as we cant drop grenade) to rule a kill.
That is with the seawolves.

Now that ive gave up on the SH series i downloaded DW.... went to join the seawolves since i was with them years ago... I dont remember which platform i was playing at the time since ive done them all (old fart) but remember they had some good trainers to teach you valuable techniques...but visiting their site again was excruciating... the website is slower than a snail pace... you cant read any of the font since it nearly matches the background image.... when i tried to join the auto form never completed so i have no idea if it went through or not....
Really is a shame as i'd like to join them again and get a refresher on modern boats... burnt out on sh and not being able to play sub vs sub..
