U-3 Capt_Haddock 208 (15) /KIA/0/0 Tons
. in U-boot Type VII
Visibility was so bad (less than a mile). Haddock approached on the surface at full spead for about 15 minutes, then dived to PD. He never showed up on the Radar screen! Mata was screening from left to right. A series of explosions were heard and 41 CL HMS Leander reported being under attack. Haddock was not lucky: one dud torpedo and one too close to detonate.
Mata rushed to the rescue, and detected the U-Boat easily. The chase was on. The first DC attack was done at high speed and the DCs were set at various depths. It caused little damage to the sub, but it had a serious effect on the Captain!
Haddock went silent and almost sat on the bottom. Mata lost the contact for a while. The search was done at slow speed to determine the actual depth of the sub. Unfortunately, Mata didn't see what was going on outside while pinging and collided with a Troop Transport. The damages were not too serious.
She resumed the search and the ping was lost at around 300 feet. She used the Hedge Hog first, and then dropped the rest of the DC Rack.
Haddock had no chance to escape the HH. He went down 2 minutes before the end.
We were a bit rusty on the controls, it's been a while. But it was fun anyway.
