Brilliant news guys!!! Now,Ubi could start thinking about the development of some expansions for the new installation.I dont know, its up to them, but with this new engine and code a surface addon implementing the british side would be desirable. Please Ubi,consider it,give us a 3D Flower corvette,or any other destroyer so we can scort these large convoys though the Atlantic.I assume that its quite difficult to reproduce a full surface ship in 3D,so just about 5 or 6 stations would be enough, but a lot better a full vessel of course :03:.

VERY WELCOME SHV!!!!!!

BRITISH SUBS FTW!!!!

Even though the S-Class was a biritsh design it would be nice to see some later war models of british class subs, like t-class :)

If they have to choose one escort the sloops (Frigates in SH3) escorted convoys from day one and the early ones like the Bittern and Grimsby are basically early Black Swan class so would be an easy update from 39-45.
The sloops were also used as hunter Killers so would add another campaign for player.

I agree, good expansion idea, it would be great to be a Brit AS vessel

I know alot of guys really like having the Fleet Boats in SH4. Since U-Boats were brought to the Pacific in an expansion for that game, why not an expansion that gives us Fleet Boat ops in the Atlantic for this one? Even better Allied operations in the Atlantic. British subs as well :D 2 things we haven't had in an SH game. I think it would be brilliant :yeah:

Soviet submarines of World War II achieved very little and did not have real effect on any Axis military operations - sinking around mere 248,310 tons of shipping during the entire war. So no, I would not have them.

Italian submarines (stereotypes; "we surrender" can go and hide under desks) on the other achieved success that would suprise many people. 32 Italian submarines took part in the Battle of the of the Atlantic - operating in a very wide area ranging from North Atlantic (all the way to US East Coast and Caribbean) to South Atlantic (West/South African coast and the South American coast). With few boats (that were meant for fleet operations in Mediterranean area) and wide operation radius, the Italian submarines in the Atlantic still managed to sink 600,000 tons of shipping, with an average of about 17,750 tons of shipping each, a slightly better average than the German boats operating in the Atlantic.

The best Italian submarine of WWII was Leonardo da Vinci, which sank 120,250 tons - more than the best American submarine (the Flasher with 100,230 tons) and more than the best British submarine (the Upholder with 97,720 tons).

In all, during three years the Italian submarines sank around 900,000 tons (+ around 200,000 tons sank by underwater servicemen of the Decima MAS - guided torpedoes*) - only 400,000 tons less than its main adversary, the Royal Navy, during the entire war. So, it would be interesting to have Italian submarines in an expansion.

i agree with tonibamestre,

serving on a 3D escort, cruiser or battleship is also very welcome. Main objective is fighting against each other in bigger MP scenarios, by using real moddeled equipment in full 3D enviroment...

...a nice new addon could also the French U-Cruiser "Surcuf", it was equiped with an aircraft hangar and a gun turret that carried two eight-inch naval guns.

For expasion pack, I would like to see both missing nation and 'forgotten' nations submarines into Silent Hunter 5 campaigns, for example British Campaign, Soviet Campaign, Italy Campaign, French, Dutch, Japan, and the list goes on, besides US and German Campaign.

Even if some of you said that soviet did a littel part in World War II, that is ok becuase we still would make the difference virtually when taking a part as soviet navy. Some of us would play as French and make the difference. Besides Silent Hunter is about submarine sim which should never limits us from experiencing any types of nation's submarine where we would learn a lot more about different submarines of World War II.

So at once there are many nation's submarine campaigns that would be added to US and German as listed above, I will be truly happy! These are my truly a 'wish' for Silent Hunter 5's expasion pack. But for now, I still have a great hopes of having these in Silent Hunter 4 and incoming Silent Hunter 5 as add-on mods, which is why I am very thankful for this modding community!

:)

You not right about soviet submarines in WWII. In my database submarine attacks from submarine logs. 248310 tons is false during rewriting history WWII in west. Unfortunale many russian @historics@ write what him payment.
Read http://sovpl.forum24.ru/?1-3-0-00000001-000-0-0-1244279283 and 2nd part http://sovpl.forum24.ru/?1-3-0-00000007-000-0-0-1249149772

And you unright about tonnage other you writing submarine.

No, it is right. The Soviet submarines sank roughly that much of tonnage, For most of the war the Baltic Fleet, which was the strongest of the Soviet Navy, was bottled up inside its ports, because of Finnish and German minefields that covered the Baltic Sea. It was not until late 1944 that the Baltic Fleet set out to operate in way that achieved showing results.

The Black Sea fleet's submarines, which surface fleet alone was on paper superior to the small Axis naval presence, did not achieved much either - the German 30th U-boat Flotilla, which operated from Romania for less than two years and with only six old Type II U-boats, sank 100,000 tons of shipping - nearly half what all the Soviet submarines sank during the entire war.

The Soviet Union had very little experience in submarine warfare. Whatever was written in Pravda and Soviet history books, greater tonnage claims are not supported by naval losses suffered by Axis and neutral nations attacked by Soviet submarines. Combined circumstances prevented the Soviet submarines from achieving much during the war. Of all the major powers involved in World War II, the Soviet Union sank least tonnage.

I see Rohwer books and other on base books it's autor. In Rowher books near all data was false. You can see it's easer simple read what write in Rohwer and what was in real life :DL from submarine attacks.

About more - all attacks soviet submarine in wwii you can see in my database.
About sinking near 100000 tons soviet ships in Black sea - I unknow about total:o I have many small results sinking german and romanian submarines in Black sea during wwii. I not place data, so I have not full KTB all german submarines in WWII. When I can have all KTB's I place data in my database.

About sinking - all attacks in my database was write from submarines logs. In USSR was many researche made in late 1940 - early 1950 with help germane sources from East Germany.

I have many small results sinking german and romanian submarines in Black sea during wwiiSorry, but no German or Romanian submarine was sunk at Black Sea by the Soviet submarines during World War II. Germany had only six submarines on Black Sea and Romania had one - none were sunk by Soviet submarines. This is another one of the many tall tales the Soviets claimed.

Doesn't matter what the Soviets claimed; their submarines did not sink more than around 248,310 tons of shipping during the entire war. Greater figures have been debuffed by the fact that they are not supported by naval losses suffered by Axis and neutral nations attacked by Soviet submarines - numbers did not exist only in what the Soviets claimed; they exist in ships that are at the bottom of the seas - and enough are not at the bottom of the sea to support figures greater than around 248,310 tons.

About soviet sinkings - you need read soviet submarine attacks in my database and see results. After it you can see Rohwer books and see what autor write about soviet attacks submarines. I another talk, that Rohwer books have false data. And all books base in Rohwer books have false data also. It's easy - simple see Rohwer desribe soviet submarine attacks and see what was in real life... It's easy. After it you can see himself, that Rohwer books is false.

About 30 flotilla u-boats - my be you can talk me about german submarines what was raise after war in Constanca? :D As i remember soviet navy raise 3 sunk german submarines what was sunk after air attacks in Contanca in 1944 year.

Since this is a Atlantic/Mediterranean sim then I think from a Real history viewpoint the only option for an expansion would be Italian subs, I don't think there's quite enough target opportunities for the allies. My own preference would be for a Japanese add-on but that might take some increased game engine adjustments to accommodate.

They could however go down the "Alternate history" route in a world where the Germans fully conquered North Africa and were winning WW2, so had increased amount of shipping for the allies to sink.

Either way I think these pehaps slightly less "commercial" options like Italian or Japanese subs would benefit more from a downloadable content approach through something like Steam etc, rather than an in-store shelf occupying retail method.

why dont we wait for the game before we start asking to spend $ to buy extra expansions

Because by that time the devteam will probably have been broken up/ substantially reduced and assigned to other projects as has happened previously and the chance of development would be slim. By getting in early Ubi may realise the product "has legs" the team is in place and consider developing addons.

The expansions I'd like would be

- Playable surface ships/campaign.
- Pacific Theatre
- Royal Navy
- wolfpack strategy (if it's not already in SH5)
- real world ports (much less generic than the ports of sh3/sh4)

Hypothetical WW2 scenarios are right next to cold war scenarios, mostly useless in a realistic sim.

Regia Marina and Royal Navy sub campaigns would benefit from the game's setting in a future expansion.

SH6 will feature fleet boats sure enough!

IMHO SH5 should support expansion for both sides. That is, allow the player to be either Allied (US, Dutch, UK) or Axis (German, Japanese, Italian) through addition of expansions/mods. With one installation.

Thus it doesn't need to ship (punny) this way--standard U-boat fare would be sufficient for release--but it would be nice if it gave modders the ability to add new playable subs to either side.

Of course, from a capitalist (profit) perspective this won't happen as it effectively cuts the need for a separate Pacific based follow up using the same engine with tweaks (sound familiar?), but it would be nice.

Actually, I thought that there will be Destroyer Command 2 insted of SH5. And I would like to have finalised Silent Hunter engine, which icludes all proposed functionality operationa, and which will host numerous addons with extra staff.
