The sixth official 17. Flottille Campaign will be the

Mediterranean Campaign

and shall begin on

Friday 21st August 2009

The Mediterranean Campaign (http://nordfront.org/xvii-flottille/mediterranean.htm) is the latest in the series of tactical campaigns, run by the 17. Unterseebootsflottille online group. The campaign comprises custom-built multiplayer missions, which are constructed using the CMG software (http://nordfront.org/xvii-flottille/cmg.htm). The outcome of each mission affects how subsequent missions are built by the software. Thus each mission has an impact on the tactical situation, the Allied response and, ultimately, the overall campaign result.

The operations for this new campaign begin with the first U-boats breaking into the Mediterranean in 1941 and continuing through to 1944 (the exact end-date will depend on the U-boat successes, of course). Based on GWX-3.0, and using the GWM multiplayer mod, we shall make full use of all the Mediterranean units and features.

Players will have at their disposal the Type-VIIB (http://nordfront.org/xvii-flottille/uboats.htm#VIIB), Type-VIIC (http://nordfront.org/xvii-flottille/uboats.htm#VIIC) and the Italian Serie-600 (http://nordfront.org/xvii-flottille/uboats.htm#600). Their missions shall range from "breaking through" the Straits of Gibraltar, convoy interception, special operations, chance shots at grand capital ships and desperate battles.

In addition to our existing membership (http://nordfront.org/xvii-flottille/roster.htm), we are extending an invitation to the community for those who wish to join us. All we ask is that players have a mature attitude and are willing to abide by our standards of play, which encourage team work, tactics and considered actions. Details for those wishing to join can be found on our enlistment page: http://nordfront.org/xvii-flottille/enlist.htm . We do not require exclusive membership and are happy to have players join who are already in other online units. Even if you do not join the unit, you are still welcome to download the missions for yourself, or to watch the results unfold, by visiting the campaign page (http://nordfront.org/xvii-flottille/campaign.htm).

The campaign will begin on Friday 21-Aug-2009. It will last approximately 2 months. Games will happen every day (as often as players are ready to play them) and participants can play as little or as much as they like.

I like the open, community-conscious attitude you guys have.

The way you tie missions together brings a whole new level of play to SH3 multiplayer! I hope SH5 will include a similar online campaign model where the outcome of previous missions affects subsequent engagements. The work on CMG is nothing short of impressive. I'd rank it right up there with JSGME and SH3 Commander as the top "must have" utilities for the game, if it were publicly available.

Come on, kaleuns! Get in there and win a victory for the U-bootwaffe! :salute:

Furthermore, even if you do not want to join our unit, anyone can click on the icons on the campaign map to download our campaign missions.

Click HERE (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=152988) for more details and instructions.

To find the campaign map, go to the Campaign Page (http://nordfront.org/xvii-flottille/campaign.htm) and scroll down to the Maps&Missions section.

Let your mouse hover over the map icons for more information. Right-click and select save-as on each icon to save the mission.

:ping: These missions are compatible with GWX-3.0.

Screenshots

And finally, for those of you who just like looking at nice screenshots, here are a few from the campaign so far. Many of these feature the Italian Serie-600 (http://nordfront.org/xvii-flottille/uboats.htm#600) which comes as a standard AI-unit with GWX-3.0 (nice work, GWX-team!); the nordfront.org Dev-Team has then converted it for use as a human-controlled unit for the 17.Flottille's Mediterranean Campaign.

I would be interested in enlisting with you folks and expanding my play time. I guess the biggest question I have is about plotting. I don't do it and don't really want to do it. I admire the folks that take it to that level but I rally don't have the time with work and school to learn how this is done. Do you require self plotting or does the multi-player program you folks created still allow letting the AI do this? I would love to take part but unfortunately I don't want to learn manual targeting and such.

17. Flottille plays with difficulty set to "HARD" (which, in reality is slightly more difficult than "HARD" in the stock game, but still not fully REALISTIC). The reason for this, is that there are certain limitations of the multiplayer game, and we have experimented with settings over the past 3-4 years to get the combination that we have.

We do NOT use full manual targeting for our standard missions and campaigns. But it isn't fully automatic either. Instead we use a hybrid, where the player needs to do a little bit of targeting themselves, but there is still a weapons officer to update the map for you.

For some selected missions we use full 100% realism and for our sea-trials and training missions we use NORMAL mode.

We are also happy to help anyone improve their skills if they are not already an expert in any aspect of the game.
