List of battles in RSRD?

So on the advice of some of you here, I downloaded RSRD...what a good call...I appreciate it greatly. It adds a layer of realism completely missing from stock SH4. However, despite my best efforts, I haven't been able to get involved in any major naval conflicts. I would imagine that Coral Sea and Midway are part of the mod, but when I traveled to Coral Sea, couldn't find anything. I chalk it up to bad luck, and I am aware that there was no or negligible ship-to-ship fighting there. Because of time constraints I couldn't make it back to midway for the battle there.

Currently, I'm stalking around Guadalcanal, and I've engaged a few task forces, sinking a light cruiser, and 4 DD's. However, I haven't seen any major naval engagements in the slot, so my question is this: Are battles, even more minor ones, modeled in RSRD? Like, if i'm NW of Savo island on October 11, can I get involved in The Battle of Cape Esperance? Or is that too minor to be modeled in the game?

Im pretty sure most of the major battles / sorties are scripted, that said its a big ocean, even when I know where a fleet is going to be, actually finding it is hit and miss.

Luck factor, much like the real boats experienced.

I know that the Battle of Midway is included in this mod. I'm fairly sure the creator of this mod intended that the disposition and courses sailed by the IJN forces conform to the historical record. I have not been to the Guadalcanal engagement, but did encounter heavy ships in the Midway battle.

I'm guessing Guadalcanal is accounted for. For Midway, sail about 350 nm NW of Midway Island prior to the date of engagement. If you look at historic references (google) and view maps of the battle, you can then sus out where to pick out a nice spot.

I have been looking for a listing of latitudes and longitudes for the various sea battles in WW2 (unsuccessfully). Does anyone have, or know of, any info or a source reference for this?

Best thing is to ask Lurker about it in a PM. I'd like to know the answer too, since even after quite a few campaigns, I've yet to see ships fighting eachother (i didn't go searching for that though, maybe I should try).

I spend my time chasing the historical events that RDRD does so well. The easy thing to do is look in the ME, but I only did that once, I prefer the hunt. I"ve seen major and minor surface engagements. It's really a show when they cut loose. Also have seen plenty air attacks from both allied and japs.

I have taken part Coral sea, major Carrier battle in the Solomons and most the battles of the Solomon's take place like Vella.

If you hang around Savo Island you'll get many radar contacts, most are the fast dd's, but a few are bigger. If you tail and follow, many time US surface forces will engage and you can watch surface battle and pick of the stragglers.

Another biggie is the Battle of Philippines Sea. I acutally ran into two TF as they came near each other.

Really run is the battle of Leyte, you can pick a few area's to wait and watch large surface battles and take part.

Better to me is how well the large invasion forces are scripted, large convoys 30-60 ships. My last patrol, I attack a 50 ship convoy. Went to port came back and attack the two large TF during the turkey shoot, refitted and now in battle with a 35 ship convoy headed through Formosa.

Not only are all the large battles scripted, but many medium and smaller ones. I watched the US carrier fleet attack Rabaul the day it was supposed.

Just study your books, latitude and longitude and cruise in those area's with radar reaching. You may not always find them, but many times you will.

I've been using the combined fleet site for some time...and a little bit after I posted this question, I did run into the force of heavy cruisers that famously got their T crossed in The Battle of Cape Esperance. Unfortunately, I was out of position, and couldn't make it there in time. But I did get the map contact update and the flash traffic report on the battle...so I suppose this answers my question: Minor engagements like this one are indeed modeled into the game. :) hooray!

Here I was waiting in ambush for Kurita's center force in the Battle of Leyte. I went a little east this time and got a massive air contact. They were US carrier planes. Didn't see the battle what happened, but later I rescued about 20 us airmen from the sea...Actually the first time I've ever rescued airmen with RSRD.

That's a good surface battle, the japs actually do fairly well.

Probably one of the best surface battles you can watch is the battle of Leyte in the Surigao Strait. Two large US TF, old BB's, CA's goes against two Fuso's and several CA's and DD's. The japs blast through the first US TF, but the second wasn't so easy. Put your sub in the right place and you can really help out. I got right in the middle and took out a Fuso. By the end of the surface battle, I sunk all the jap scraps laying dead on the water.

It's quite a loud affair when all the surface ships open up.

The brothel..where the aroma of dirty sheets, cigarette smoke and cheap whiskey fill the air....Sailors call that fun.

Actually the last brothel I visited was on Norfolk Va in 84. The things I saw I can't repeat here, but it involved long neck beer bottles and quarters...any sailor from the area would understand....:salute:
