View Full Version : Finally nailed Passenger/Cargo with one torpedo

After many failed attempts, I gave up from trying to sink her with one eel, and started to use two.
On my last encounter with Passenger/Cargo, one torpedo missed, and the other one hit a bit infront of the stern mast. I was about to make a second approach when my crew informed me that the ship is sinking. :arrgh!:
I used electric torpedo, impact detonator, I *think* the depth was set to 5m.

Looking at the screenshot, I guess I was lucky the torpedo didn't bounce of the hull.

Yep,discovered this myself,thanks for confirming it,thought I'd got lucky but your shot makes me certain that that is the way forward:salute::yeah:I think we can now say we have found its Achilles heel:03:

Funny i never have needed to use 2 torps on this ship :hmmm:

@nikbear
Glad we found her weakness. Now all we have to do is to hit that spot again. :D
@BulSoldier
That's strange. It took me at least two torpedoes to sink her each time. No matter how much I waited, she never sank after only one hit. Until now, that is...

Large ships, aim around the forward mast. Small ships, aim around the aft mast. It seems to sink them with one shot 90 % of the time:arrgh!:

I swear C2 ships have some kind of reinforced hull against my attacks. Always takes me 2-3 shots to sink one of those while a C3 often drops after just one! Some of us are just cursed against certain boats ;)

I sunk one with one torpedo aswel. Just in front of the aft mast,like you. It did take quite a while though. And with serious waves. Im not sure about the warhead settings, but I suspect it was impact beacause of the high waves.

What depth would you recommend setting impact torps to when attacking any ship?

@Pisces
I had high waves too, but she sank some 15-20 minutes after the impact.
@Captain Birdseye
I usualy set the depth a bit above half the ship's draft. Setting it too deep may cause the torpedo to bounce off, due to curvature of the hull.

Thanks very much.
Does rough weather affect this?

Because of rough weather the target bounces up an down. So torpedo depth settings have little meaning if it does. Apart from the fact that torpedo's do not like to freefall as it shoots out of a wave crest.

Thanks for sharing, I'll reset my aim.

I tend to send two eels into the engine compartment if its a large ship and one eel into the engine compartment if its a small ship then let nature take its course (FIRE..EXPLOSIONS..ECT..ECT..) they will sink eventually.
Am I doing something wrong?

Anyone know if there is a comprehensive list of key 'spots' to hit ships?
Pre-GWX I knew them all. Now i struggle to send even a 2k tonne ship to the bottom! :06:

I appreciate many know this, and it's very "manual", but if you go to external view, and go to the ship, run the camera along the bottom of the ship, and where you hear the engine noise the loudest, look up to the deck of the ship for some visual reference, know you know where the ships engine room is :up:

THanks Birdseye! Will try that next!
My current tatic is to hit all convoy ships either just before or bang below the front mast. Bingo 1 sink every time with 1 torp. However this dosent work for non-convoy ships :damn:

HAHA!
This is a right spot to fishing her. But in calm weather i always aim under the keel near props shafts
I dicovered this also, Thx for notice for hopeless soul who dont notice that yet.

I found the weak spot of the P/C at Keel shot behind wheelhouse. I think I post this hint a while back. But still, with manual targeting, it's not always possible to hit it some accurately. So I usually left them alone when in convoy. Think of the woman and children on-board, not to mention the pretty nurses.

I of course would stop to pick up the nurses.:yep:
