Driving out to my assigned patrol area, 21:00 on the surface minding my own damn bidnesss, when what should appear, but an 11 ship convoy. 3 Destroyers 8 merchants. I submerge at about 5 miles, make my standard approach, shoot 6 fish from the forward tubes at 3 ships. Sink two outright, miss with one fish on a large transport who is burning and making about 2 knots. Go to 300 feet silent running, stop and wait out the escorts. As the escorts tend to do, they mill around a while and then move off. I get one tube reloaded, go to periscope depth and pick off the damaged freighter. Here comes da escorts, turn away from them, wait until they are within 1000 yards, shoot two cuties, go to 300 feet all stop. Usually, if they work at all, the cuties follow each other and both hit the same target. I get one detonation, scratch one escort. A couple of minutes, the other one finds the other escort. Two dead destroyers. I turn toward the remaining ships, manage to get the remaining tubes reloaded. Pick off two more transports but here comes that remaining destroyer. Put the stern to him, wait until he is 1000 yards coming at me at 34 knots, shoot my remaining cutie. Get him, but he doesn’t go down, instead, burning, he turns away. I wait for a while, Finally go to 38 feet to see where everyone else is, I see there are two tankers with the remaining damaged escort fairly close. I end around them, get in front. The destroyer is easy to identify, he is the only ship on fire. Close to within 700 yards, pick him off with one fish. The remaining two tankers are going all over the place, but since they are only going about 6 knots, it’s fairly easy to nail them. This is the first time I have managed to wipe out a whole convoy.

Good job, always fun. Reminds me of the time I ran into the 50 ship Java invasion force.

Good job, always fun. Reminds me of the time I ran into the 50 ship Java invasion force.

Ran into one of the Phillipines landing forces. Around 20 destroyers and minesweepers, a light cruiser and a few merchants. In an S-Class.

Better, load RSRDC with RFB or TMO, the convoys are more historically correct and more spread out and you can run into some massive convoys and TF's. Little bit harder than stock. I prefer to carry M10's early war due to all the failures of the M14's.

I just ran into the Yamato leaving the Bungo April of 45 on it's last one way trip. Hope I can get it before the US planes do.

Keep up the good work and save some japs for the rest of us. Here was the big convoy. I think it's the largest on in RSRD...

A couple of things I have noticed about the stock game, one being that the Japanese ships engines sure burn clean. Almost no smoke which is how they were usually first spotted on the horizon before the advent of Radar. Another thing is the complete ineptness of the escorts. After attacking a convoy, I wanted to lure in an escort for a stern chase to get him with a cutie. (Kinda bored) Heading away from him, I couldn't do anything to make him spot me, (He was about 3K yards off) Finally, I momentarily stuck the conning tower out of the water. Waited until a few tracers came my way and then dove again. I let him get to within 1000 yards before shooting. He turned and started a search pattern. One wasted cutie. After this first war patrol, I plan on loading up on the mods.

Sadly the stock game is poor in more ways than not, but the mods make it a great game. Just don't expect things to be the same, think realistic. Cuties seldom sink anything, hardly damage anything. Most Merchants will shoot back at long range. No more sinking ships with the 40MM.

The AI in TMO is harder overall. It's basically hard to set up an attack without being spotted, but you can if you do the right things. As far as escaping dd's, much harder, but still too easy IMO. The planes can get you deep. Best thing to do with TMO is just crash dive.

You'll love the mods
