Intro on our Website below,

Notice to all:

When I started the Grey Wolves mod project four years ago, one of the most basic directives is that our work would remain freeware, and that we would not accept payment or donations directly or indirectly, of any sort for the works we may release.

It is one of the few items of discussion, and one of the few times that I have excercised my priviledge of 'veto' power. Anyone found to be accepting monies or donations from the community outside the team... will be removed from the GWX mod team. As you can see, I mean business when it comes to this concept. It is not an idea that is open to debate.

In so doing, the team avoids countless potential legal complications, and worst of all... the green eyes of jealousy and arguments over who gets what.

The Grey Wolves project is built by the passion of its members... not by money. The moment money is added to the equation, it will change everything in a negative way.

I sincerely appreciate the fact that a number of community members have offered the GWX team donations it the past... it is high praise indeed.

However, for those that somehow continue to object the GWX team policy regarding 'no acceptance of monies'... you will simply have to learn to live with it.

Thanks

And such is your right, good sir, and may the Grey Wolves continue to bring this community such works of artistry as GWX, whether or not you ever accept financial backing of any kind.

However, I think owner was referring to hosting donation links at ComSubsPac to help support mod groups in their efforts, if they do wish for such support. I'm not clear on how this would work but his heart seems to be in the right place.

I know you had worked out an arrangement with Neal to have GWX 2.0 as a "donation-ware only" download for the first two weeks of its release to raise money in support of Subsim, Kpt. Lehmann, but that is not the same as taking in money to pay members of the Grey Wolves or buy them hardware.

That being said, I will immediately lock this thread and issue warnings to anyone that insists on turning this thread into a debate or flame war over donations for private groups. This is not a matter open for debate here at Subsim. Instead, it is for those groups to discuss the merits and drawbacks of financial support within their own communities.

Lock what? Nobody has posted since Lehmann, aside from yourself, and that falls under the "razzing the moderator" category. :O:

I do as well.

It clearly has nothing to do with the topic, and is obviously an invented, opportunistic, and oblique slap at the GWX organization... initiated by a Subsim "moderator." As a manager for the ComSubsPac multiplayer organization, he is also harming his own cause. Quite rediculous really. There are some good people associated with ComSubsPac... this kind of thing will undoubtedly make them rather uncomfortable.

What owner20071963 fails to understand, is that from a design standpoint we must first focus on single player concerns, and have that as a clear priority... so that matters relating to the multiplayer end of things can be carried out effectively.

Furthermore, though there are some great multiplayer organizations out there, most Silent Hunter players don't go anywhere near multiplayer. Its rather sad, but it is quite easy to see the low level of interest in MP based on the user traffic here at Subsim. Subsim is the largest and busiest submarine simulation forum anywhere. I wish that it were different regarding the multiplayer facet... but the demographics speak for themselves quite loudly... and the GWX mod team understands that quite well.

This thread was doomed the minute that Owner20071963 feebly attempted to give it a dual purpose and meaning.

Its my guess that Graf Paper has not been able to lock the thread because it was started by a Subsim "moderator" and the forum admin functions available to GP prevent it... just as he is prevented from editing Owner20071963's original post. This would allow Owner20071963 to say anything he pleases with relative immunity... and allows Owner to edit following non-moderator posts at will.

Given that Graf Paper is both a moderator here, and a manager at ComSubsPac... I don't envy the tight spot that Owner20071963 has placed him in at all.

You are exactly right, mr chris and Kpt. Lehmann. I am in a very tight spot, the proverbial "rock and a hard place", as it were.

For obvious reasons, there are some things you have said that I simply cannot reply to publicly without damaging my standing with ComSubsPac or hurting a good friend. Also, I do owe owner20071963 a large degree of respect and gratitude for giving me the opportunity to better contribute to this game community that I have grown to love dearly over the years. I doubt my moderator status here would have been bestowed upon me without having first been in such a high profile position with ComSubsPac.

I also know that things could have been handled differently but they weren't and ComSubsPac has very nearly become a four-letter word around here. At the least, it has cost us a great deal of goodwill and loss of potential members. I only wish owner could see it that way.

I cannot support anyone who engages in public attacks against any other part of the Silent Hunter community or condone their actions, both as a ComSubsPac Administrator and Subsim Radioroom Moderator. I do not endorse personal grudges or vendettas, either. It is a fine line that I walk. I take my job seriously with both organizations and do my utmost to not allow duties or loyalties for one to interfere with the other. Owner has given me a sacred trust, so has Neal, and I will not violate the faith either has placed in me to do my best for our communities. My roles have given me a deeper insight and regard for how my own words or behavior can help or harm our places we call home, members we call friends, and, ultimately, the Silent Hunter franchise.

You may take offense at owner's statement in regards to multiplayer and I do think he is overstating ComSubsPac's role while undermining the work that has been put into GWX multiplayer but consider the following statements.

I've been playing GWX since it was originally The Grey Wolves Supermod v1.1a. I don't believe owner can make such a claim because he started ComSubsPac as an SH4 multiplayer group. From my own personal experience, I can attest to the fact that almost all of the career development for GWX directly translates into a much better and varied game play for multiplayer. Then there's also the fact that GWX has always included at least a dozen multiplayer missions. I think that clearly demonstrates at least a modicum of support for multiplayer, on your part.

Now, to give ComSubsPac its due, I think it can be said that we have managed to revive interest in multiplayer to some degree. The number of players registering at our website every week is nothing short of remarkable when you consider SH3 is more than a few years old. Out of those who register, I'd say one in ten takes the next step of actually logging in to TeamSpeak and engaging in playing. I know from direct experience that we've had SH4 players rush off to buy SH3 after they heard other members talking about how fun it still is. Then add to that nearly every single new SH3 player, that logs in for the first time, immediately downloads GWX. More than a few of those players are among whom I personally recommended GWX as the absolute best choice for multiplayer SH3, hands down.

I'm am more than willing to acknowledge these facts, as I hope you are. It is for these reasons that a salute is indeed due for GWX 4: Atlantic Battlefield. I am certain that ComSubsPac will make its contributions to promoting this much anticipated SH4 mod from the Grey Wolves and bringing the GWX experience to many present and future kaleuns.

In most things, I support owner and I'm proud to call him my friend. It is my hope that we will eventually meet in the middle and work together to build a stronger community, rather than waste energy and do more harm with the way matters currently stand.

And just for the record, those objectionable remarks have been corrected. Now I must bear the consequences alone.

Funny how a thread that was started as a praise to the GWX guys and expressing a desire for the best and if needed, for economic support of the team activities (In an ample sense) has turned into an angry discussion.

Gentlemen, we humans have feelings and when we want to share them with others, we verbalizate them. If owner and the GWX guys were chimpanzees, owner would have kissed and embraced the GWX guys, and that's all, the message would not have been lost.

But we are all humans, communicating through a difficult, faceless media like the internet (Emoticons were created to try to help with that a bit). So, words and letters aside -which can many times fail to transmit the desired feeling-I invite you all to accept owner's compliment for what it surely was just meant to be: A sincere expression of admiration, appreciation and will to collaborate (Heck, he even started the thread for that purpose!). Could have been worded better to suit everyone's taste? Well, may be so, but in the end it is what it is, and it should to be taken for that.

Finally, I would like to remark that what I have commented above is just the result of the impartial observation from the outside, done by someone who just arrived and readed the whole thread in a row. Sometimes a step backwards to gain angular perspective can work miracles

Good hunting all :salute:

Well said, Hitman! I like your point of view much better.

It's been all about politics, up to this point, and I rather see many more posts like yours.

Unfortunately, this thread has effectively been killed so I doubt there will be much saluting going on here. An opportunity lost on both sides, I'm sad to say. :nope:
