Here it goes..
Couple of screenshots. Unfortunately you have to download, or open them yourself. I wont post them directly here because of the screen resolution (3072x768).
Pictures are un-edited, lower in-game details and no AA.

Taken from "The Duel" scenario.

I love this game!

Konig leads the High Seas Fleet out on a sortie in early 1916. Grand Admiral PeriscopeDepth's "innovative" strategy of using the HSF to cripple British light forces in the Channel area is being described by most newspapers as "foolish", "risky", and more recently as "airheaded". These treasonous publications have of course been shut down, with most of the staff sentenced to years of hard labor or infantry duty on the Western Front.

Nice shots PD. Have you looked in the options and seen all that can be changed with the water? Color, animation, reflection and a bunch of others. Very cool feature of the game. My water was looking black, I now have it at a nice shade of blue. You can do the changes even when you are steaming to your destination while in game:up:

Bullethead, can you sticky this thread? I will be adding a few myself.

Wow, I did it! Had to poke around to figure out how, but it worked :).

Anyway, as you say, there are all kinds of graphics options in the game. It comes with 4 presents, which I recommend folks start with. Preset0 is the default, which makes the water too dark and the ships too bright for my tastes.

Presets 1 and 2 look a lot more like the North Sea, at least as I recall it from visiting it. The only difference between them is that Preset2 has smaller bulletholes and scorch marks, which IMHO are more realistic.

The problem with Presets 1 and 2 is that at night, they make the ocean look like a swimming pool with the light on underwater. Thus, Preset3 is the same as Preset2, but with the water lighting turned down to make it look pretty black at night.

You can, of course, tweak a bunch of settings to suit your tastes. But I recomment starting with one of the presets because it's quite possible to tweak the sliders into a horrible configuration :).

You can then save your settings under a name of your choice and load them as desired. These files are saved a .ADO files in the main \Jutland folder. Thus, you can share them with others, attach them to posts here, etc. They're very small files.

Changing the water color, dynamics, etc while in game is a great feature. After these shots I started really playing with the options and got what I would consider very close to real water color and effects.

When you are in game you can pull up the option screen to change the water. Use the fly-out on the right side of the screen. Cool feature. The change takes effect right before your eyes. It allows you to get the color you want from the very start so you do not have to keep saving the game and making adjustments.

I like night battles myself. When guns fire, shells hit, and starshells pop, there are these cool flashes like you see in old "Victory at Sea" footage. Ships glare blue under searchlights and starshells light the water up yellow. Very pretty :)

Bullethead, have you folks considered expanding on the magazine explosion by adding some different particle effects? I know theres a limit to which can be done with the current engine and maintaining effective FPS, but perhaps something akin to what was seen in the "Dogfights!" episode with the destruction of the Hood?

The only reason why I say this is because as it stands its painfully obvious when a ship has blown up, but it doesnt have the same..violent effect, does that make any sense?

IT is far more work than you may realize.

Ther are 900+ ships in the Jutland Data base.

Each and every one would have to have a complete exploding model mapped along with all the additional particles.

I´d love to see some more screenshots and have some questions:

1. Is rain modeled visually in the game? Screenshots available?? :sunny:

2. could someone please post screenshots with landmass / coastal line in sight?

3. is shore target bombardment possible - screenshots very welcome here too.

4. is it possible to expand the visible game log during battles to a more verbose version like smaller caliber hits, crew casualties, detailed system damage...

5. a screenshot with the worst seastate possible in game would be great too.

Hello, im about to purchase - had a good time with the demo scenario.

Howdy Gammel, glad you like it.

I´d love to see some more screenshots...

Here's the screenshot thread in our other forum: http://forums.gamesquad.com/showthread.php?t=81030

1. Is rain modeled visually in the game? Screenshots available??

Yup, lotsa little dots coming down. You can see that in some of the screenshots. The rain is also localized, in that sometimes it's not everywhere on the 200km x 200km battlespace at the same time. The LOS system takes all that into account.
2. could someone please post screenshots with landmass / coastal line in sight?
There are some in that thread. However, be advised that our land graphics aren't spectacular. No Cliffs of Dover--everthing is rather low and rounded, with very little detail. There are clusters of buildings for the towns, though, and all 400-odd lighthouses in the campaign area are faithfully represented in their correct positions.

3. is shore target bombardment possible - screenshots very welcome here too

In the campaign, you can do bombardments of enemy ports, but that doesn't create a battle unless the enemy has some ships there, too. There, however, about 1000 shore guns in the game, all historically researched. This appear on the land during battles in their areas, and you can shoot at them if you want to, instead of enemy ships. It's not likely to do much good, however, because they're very small targets.

4. is it possible to expand the visible game log during battles to a more verbose version like smaller caliber hits, crew casualties, detailed system damage...

Not at present, I'm afraid. In campaign battles, a separate report is created showing which ships were involved and what happened to them, but no detailed info.

5. a screenshot with the worst seastate possible in game would be great too.

I don't think anybody's taken a pic with a 200-knot wind blowing, because I don't think such storms happen in the North Sea :D

Not a problem at all. I'm sure he'd be thrilled to know you did it. The AAR topic also usually has some good screenshots in it, too, that folks use to illustrate their battles.

BTW, you can see a light, local rain squall in this pic. That's what's making all the little white dots. You sometimes get little brief showers like this even with the sky fairly clear.

The games log output on the picture here above seems more than i get from the game - strange, i'll have a look again.

All that text in the upper left is controlled with the N hotkey, which cycles between 3 settings. The text always occupies the same amount of screen area, but 1 setting uses small fonts so you can see more lines at once. Kotori here is using the large font size, so you don't see as many lines at once. The 3rd setting turns it off completely. But everybody sees the same stuff there if they've got it turned on either way.

That's a rough night there, Raptor. Was that scenario you made?

In the scenario editor, you can set the wind speed up to at least 150 knots, maybe 200, I forget which. And you can even do that during a regular battle, via CTRL-F9, if you're bored with the current conditions :).

BTW, you can play with the settings for wave size and shape. The wave shapes tend to look best for a some subset of the full range of wind speeds, though. IOW, wave settings that look good at normally encountered sea states often look too choppy under extreme conditions, and if you set the waves for the extreme, normal weather tends to be a bit flat.

Yup, it's possible to damage or destroy them just like guns on ships. And eventually they get repaired.

RECON from Zeppelins reported Monitors NE of Zeebrügge. The TF began giving chase. Late in the afternoon, visual contact was made. As the escorts of the Monitors had obviously ran away, the escorting CLs and DDs were ordered out of harms way.

At dawn, one of the Monitors is getting hit and falling back. The end was quick and bloody.

As the old gals were very exposed to the risk of faster and overwhelming forces, it was decided not to chase the other Monitors at all costs but to retreat. All ships came BTB unharmed.
