View Full Version : Great Idea for a new mod!

I was watching a movie with u-boat in action, so i noticed something different, the deck gun.The deck gun in sh4 looks all brand new every time, but if you think about it in real life it looks all old,rusty and full of water damage done to it by the sea and that's same with the AA guns.

And as a bonus it will fix the part where you see 3 different shells when you are in the deck gun view(Armor Piercing/High Explosive shells/AA Shells) to just (Armor Piercing/High Explosive shells) the same for the AAgun(s) you should only see the (AA Shells) not the (Armor Piercing/High Explosive shells) because how could you fire at airplanes with high explosive shells or armor piercing, that is very unrealistic!

SO what is the mod?+with the features above of course, well the mod will replace all the deck gun(s) textures with the what has been described above, but the only problem here is that we need to get in the professionals in because at the moment i can only do up to sound modding/pic/movies.

As for vanilla 1.4....
I think the 3 different rounds available for the deck gun are because the later 5.25 inch is a dual purpose and won't fire AP. I haven't tried the deck gun on aircraft using AA rounds but there aren't the kinds of changes in elevation needed to fire at aircraft and the AA rounds don't "puff" into little black clouds. At the same time, the 40mm AAA rounds are suprisingly effective against ships of all sizes.:hmm:

I remember in Dynamix's "Aces of the Deep" the first round out of the DG was always screwy as the round was-blowing out the barnacles, water and baby octopus. That would be good to see too.

By mid 1942 the US Navy was using radar for ranging and fire direction on surface ships. It would be good to see this on the subs too.

I agree-something needs to be done to more realistically model the deck gun and AAA. A more realistic looking DG is a good start.

I like that "aircraft and the AA rounds don't "puff" into little black clouds" as i remember it from the movie "Pear Harbour" when the Japanese were firing at the American Long Range Bombers you could see black puffy clouds in the air as the shell would explode and that would've meant that there is gonna be added a new sound for this (when the shell exlodes and turns into that puffy black cloud" ....hmm this is gonna be yet one of my star topics near future, ah well were making a bit of progress each day.

I have another update on this today, here i have some pictures and something else that i noticed, now aperantly there are more than 2 people while operating the deck gun, thats right you heard me correct, as you can see in one of the pics one man is looking through the binoculars while rotating the wheel moving the gun left or right.So if this mod will be made, there will be a completely new set of Deck Gun(s) in Silent Hunter 4, textures, sound(i got that already just needs to be added),size(well the same as always).

as for the deck gun, of corse it has three people, it is supposed to, one loader one gunner and a spotter to point out targets and range to correct the gunner.

as for the AA cloud puffs, they are there if you look harder. its just very faint and a light shade color so its just a matter of making them darker to suite your taste.

wow, i guess it's not that hard to notice things, just takes a keen eye
