The last gasp of the U-boats

with Germany in freefall and the few remaining U-boats in the Atlantic operating with torpedo and fuel rationing, only the advanced subs have any effect worth commenting on,

the advanced subs sink 2 transports
the 4 old U-boats damage 2 transports

the ASW of the allies have effectively destroyed all of the older U-boats still operating, but none of the advanced u-boats are caught - a technological answer has not been found to the problems they pose.

IJN is on the move again

despite intercepting information relating to a Japanese invasion at Hollandia, the Royal Navy decided not to defend this particular port

The Japanese assault the garrison, and capture it after a tough battle - Japan loses 2 factors, but regain a foothold on New Guinea

German defense gets desperate

Germany attritions, at -1 since the army is now on extremely tight oil rationings

italians get 2c vs allies
germany gets 4c/2h vs russia
germany gets 2c/1h vs allies

with that attrition the germans are able to free up most of the isolated units in the north, but on the whole the position has not been much improved, and many of the german units in the south surrendered

Germany uses 1 oil for uninverting air and 2 for construction, taking an oil effect on the economy

Japan pulls back from China, reinforces Manchuria

A response to the russian buildup

Germany uses up remaining oil and recruits every man able to hold a gun

The bombers over the Reich.

This time the bombers had a terrible time of it, inflicting only 15 brps damage, but succeeding in redamaging the oil facilities

the bombers lost in total 7 factors and another 3 factors of interceptors, but despite the great cost it was a mission success.

The Battle of Berlin

Berlin is attacked by the Red Army

It is very strongly defended

3-3, 4o6 and two Fallschirmjaeger in a fortified city = 9x3=27

the attacking units are

5o6,5o6,5o6,3o5=18 factors and 20 AAF=38

the attack is at 1:1.

Russia rolls a 3. An Ex result.

The biggest single land battle of the entire war. 27 Russian factors are lost, the city is devastated, the casualties appaling, but the Red Army is in control of the German capital, that recently ruled an Empire from Madrid to Moscow!

Red Army also captures Athens and Tirana, and moves on Tehran

The western Allies

in another series of dreadfully bloody battles, the Allies take Cologne and Essen. Cologne in particular was nearly as costly as Berlin - costing the allies 24 factors for the ruined city.

In the South, the allies capture Marseilles, Milan, Cairo, Suez, Alexandria, Jerusalem, Haifa and almost capture Tripoli!

But Rome is still fairly secure!

In the far east the chinese liberate areas of China. The allies unsuccessfully attrition Hollandia and Noumea. Submarines are now patrolling Hollandia with the aim to cut supply

The new leader of Germany, Admiral Doenitz, after just three days of taking office, orders a ceasefire shortly followed by unconditional surrender to the leaders of Great Britain, the United States and the Soviet Union.

Mussolini follows a day later.
