I am new to here and found out about you guys through trying to play sh4 with a friend over Hamachi. We both have real games and have played Total War Med2 over Hamachi before.

So we both installed sh4, downloaded and installed the 1.4 mod. We then connected to Hamachi and fired up sh4. We select LAN game and we cannot see the others game... we have tried numerous times and almost been close to tears:roll:

OK I thopught I'd try the Ubisoft MP... Here we can see the others game but as the person joining the others game always has 999 latency we cannot join.

I installed SH4 about a month ago and think (memory like sieve) that I may have added some mods - if I had would this explain why we cannot play through Hamachi? Sorry for the wall of text but I thought I'd give this a go before I throw my teddy out the cot and repeatably stamp on my keyboard :damn:

If possible I would like to know of a network that my friend and I could try to join to see which end has the problem - thanks alot

Disable the Hamachi network driver and restart your game. Ubisoft has built in some anti-hamachi stuff so you can't play online if you have Hamachi installed.

I have tried to get Command Subs Pack going but without success. The instructions for TeamSpeak don't seem to jive with what comes up when you start it. I can't seem to find the proper server. I have email you owner20071963 without success. There is a form that asks for address, etc. Not sure I have the proper information to fill it out. Please help. Thanks :yeah: Old_tex

Time for a short lesson in networking basics....

Virtual private networking.
Today, with VPN (Virtual Private Networking) you can setup your own LAN over the internet. But as you probably know, Some games are picky when it comes to LAN.

Lets take Hamachi as an example.

Like many vpn tools Hamachi peers usually do not have the same class C ips.
This means that the IPs must match the first 3 octets.
(5.444.111).333 You
(5.444.222).222 Peer

Since hamachi is serving you an ip-adress, its very rare that all your friends have the same class c ipadress.
Another downside of Hamachi is that the free version has some limitations like : small number of participants in a network, networks can become 'full' and need administrative tasks and above all, Hamachi has slow relaying.

Ofcourse, there are alternatives to Hamachi. for example :"Garena, Leaf, Wippien, openvpn and n2n. While some of the names sound familiar, the last one is quite new and unknown.

n2n is a layer-two peer-to-peer virtual private network developed by the guys at NTOP.org (http://www.ntop.org/)
N2n is a real basic VPN tool. It's only task is to create a VPN, nothing more.
N2N needs a 'Supernode' to connect to. At this time, there are 2 public supernodes available - but you could setup your own.

The tool is very simple and straightforward to use.
Install, start and your VPN is ready.

Download the VPN Client here :

Happy gaming!

See this thread...
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=149845

Users wanting to test this and help pieter work out the bugs, do so in the above thread.

The EPC Virtual Multiplayer Lan client has numerous issues with conflicts and breaking things in Windows XP, Vista, and Vista 64.

This should have been better tested before you decided to start spreading it around the Subsim forums, pieterbaarlo, but it has promise.
