You know, my boys are out there for weeks, I bring them into port for some booze and broads, they have done magnificently on this 8 week jaunt. They are responsible 4 composite freighters and 2 destroyers silenced and put to sleep.

I have them lined up outside on the deck as we pull in to port, all spiffy in their whites and just then I tell my 1st Off to hoist the colors and he tells me, "sorry I can't find them".

"Can't find them?!?" he was right as far as I could see, we have no colors available and waving proudly after a job well done.

It brings tears to my eyes.

Well, there used to be a flag-making company called 'Racerboy Productions'. They had an international license and were making flags for the Kriegsmarine. Unfortunately they had a strike and couldn't even put out enough flags for all the u-boats, so the ones they did make got distributed only to the type VIIs.

They seem to be out of business these days, and no one else seems willing to enter the flag market - maybe it's not lucrative enough.

We can only hope that someday someone will begin to manufacture flags for American submarines. Until that day, though, we are stuck with having to admire the ones flown by our surface-navy brothers.

You can add flags to subs same as a surface ship, but they are on there all the time, not just entering port. If there is a way to change that I don't know how.
I just added one to the Jyunsen b.

Seems you met the girl of your SubSim Christmas Dreams while in port:

Zoom out further to see the flags to plot a correct course. Have a beer, and hope you never meet her [Mrs. Santa Claus]. Look for some better looking broads in the game. You should not subject your crew to Celibacy based on the above photo.

I expect a detailed report on finding some good looking broads [with pictures as proof] within the game.

When you compile said report, make sure you report in before re-posting ever again if you want to still want to be the owner of the Family Jewels. :)

I believe on the rear of the Fleet Boat is an antenna, right? I don't think you want a flag on your antenna do you? So the problem is where to put it.

I might be able to if I didn't have to spend all my time looking it up.;) Maybe after I finishing trying to find the information, but it may take a few days.;)

Look it up.;) Put it on the mast at the back of the boat.:yep: I recently watched a documentary again on the rescue of the surviving crew and raising of USS Squalus (SS-192) and the flag was smaller and mounted on the CT aft deck as shown in this (poor quality) picture of USS Greenling (SS-213). I've seen better quality pictures - sorry about that - but I remembered this one of GREENLING.

Now wouldn't a broom tied to the shears be nice too after a successful patrol but of course it would be there all the time as well.

I did it right after you posted the "Look it up", It's in game. It's easier to put it in game then it is to photoshop it.

The link didn't work for me, but I have seen flags on the CT, but some of these subs change towers four times. All would have to be done.

just a wild brain fart but..... what if the flag showed up with the watch crew like another crewman on deck but with the flag textures? wouldnt the flag also then dissappear when they did?

There is a post in here by Mikhayl that the the crew controller only controls the movement of the crewmember. You need to use the 'visibleunderwater' controller set to false. Like so:

What do you mean, it is perfect!:know::rotfl:. Problem is doing the fleet creates a problem, it changes the submarines .dat and .sim files. A lot of people already have changes to those files and it would overwrite them. That's why it's better to learn how to do it.

Look it up;) :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Payback. Sorry couldn't help myself.

Using S3D just import from the flag.dat found in the Library. Import the 'American.tga" and the "node-American_FLG" and it's child nodes. If you are putting it on a mast that is a separate object, make the mast the parent ID. If you are putting in on something like the Gato where the mast is part of the sub 3Dmodel then make the sub the Parent ID. In the sim file add a 'visibleunderwater' controller set to false and make the flag the parent ID.
If you don't know how to use S3D then it will take a bit more explanation.

Edit: If you don't know how let me know, I am willing to help you get your flags.

Standard US Navy procedure: The flag is flown from the flagstaff, at the fantail (that's the very @$$ end for any landlubbers) while tied up at dock. At sea it is flown from the highest non-moving point of the ship (which would be the conning tower), but I'm pretty sure that a sub would only fly the flag while entering and leaving port - never while on patrol. don't want it to get doused in a crash-dive.
