Thanks danlisa
Looks hard for a newbie computer user, i may just wait and get a new card as SH3 is not that hard to play on the card i think the risk outweights the benifit.:o

ATI Tool is actually very easy to use.

It will basically run automatic tests to find the best/safest clock for you card. It will do this by increasing the Core & Memory ranges until it finds graphics artifacts, thus indicating an over-stress of the GFX card.

However, you are right, in most cases the risk outweighs the benefit. However, some GFX cards are extremely overclockable.

If you eventually look to buy a new card, might I suggest this site - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/, where you can get already clocked cards with upto 5yr warranty on some models.

Edit - :o Look at the ATI AGP prices. <shock>

You also need to consider the other components. RAM? Does your motherboard create a bottle neck with a slow FSB? For instance, my MB has a 400 FSB. This creates a bottle neck. I did run SH4 with the X1300 512MB. It did ok. The EVGA 7800OC 256 did much better.

Its the same test that ATI's CCC (Catalyst Control Center) uses. You do not need a special tool to do this for you.

With the ATI CCC, you can select your GPU and memory frequecies manually, have it test your card automagically (I like that word!), and if your card screws up upon reboot because you set things too high, it will set it back to the defaults so you can try again.

I tried this out because I only have a FX 5200 card and wanted to play SH4...

Sadly, I cannot get the card up far enough to make SH4 run...

Oh well, will just have to wait until I can afford a new system...

Oh well, will just have to wait until I can afford a new system...How about just buying a new card? THey are cheap, and its your only reason why you can't play. CPU power is not as important.
