Hello,
i want to play multiplayer but: when i join a server (with the same patch version)
the game load and the at the end my game is gone, crash.
i dont get it. when i host a game, none of the other players can play and they automaticly leave the game.
i have the patch 1.4 and gwx 2.1
no other mods ...
does anybody know what the problem can be ?

Is this a match that you have arranged with friends and you all have the same mods? Or maybe they are strangers with differing set ups.

I only have gwx 2.1 if you want to test it again.

There are two potential problems:

Problem 1 : Game compatibility

The games of all participating multi-players must be IDENTICAL. This means the same SH3 patch (usually 1.4b) and the same mods (in your case GWX-2.1). Not only that, but any GWX mods must also be the same. So that means that you can't play GWX-2.1 and someone else play in the same game with GWX-2.1+LiteHarbourTraffic.

Getting this right can be tricky, because it is often difficult to figure out whether or not someone has a modded game, and sometimes people think having GWX installed is good enough and they don't realise that it is all the other mods that can mess things about.

The only thing I can suggest is making sure that your server names indicate that you expect GWX-2.1. Try calling your game something like "GWX-2.1 only", rather than "SH3 Game".

The other thing is to make use of the "chat" line in the join-up window. Ask other players what mods they have, or make announcements to indicate that you have GWX-2.1 only (or whatever).

Problem 2 : Performance

The other thing that can happen is that your computer does not have enough CPU and network power to run a game (or participate in one). If you install a mod such as GWX, then there are lot of extra files, units, graphics and so on which will slow your machine down. When this happens, the CPU is unable to serve the network traffic fast enough and the participating games start to drop out due to the insufficient network speed. There are two things that can be done.

Firstly, make sure you have the graphics settings (SH3 Main Menu --> Options --> Video Options) set to a minimum. Then make sure that no other programmes are running that would use up your CPU or network performance (like Virus checkers, torrent hosts, etc.)

Secondly, try reducing the load of the game on your system. This might mean using some additional mods (e.g. LiteHarbourTraffic). The problem here though, is that you need to coordinate this with other players (see the above section on Game Compatibility). If you have a highly-customised setup, then this is difficult.

As mentioned above, sometimes using a virtual LAN (like Hamachi) can help. This, however, requires coordinating games outside of the standard UBI.COM multiplayer lobby.

As a final note, you may want to consider joining an online unit. These are groups of people who coordinate their SH3 games, rather than just rely on random members of the public joining up. Online units have an advantage as they know the potential pitfalls and often have Voice-over-IP links and forums to help coordinate getting mods right. Because of the external comms, they are often better placed to use things like Hamachi, if necessary. There are about a dozen online SH3 groups around, so finding one to suit you shouldn't be too hard.

I hope that helps. Keep at it. GWX multiplayer is great fun. Best luck in getting GWX to work for you online!
