Allied Spy Ring

Allied Spy Ring placed in German Atomic Research

Reveals that the legendary Otto Hahn, first man to split the atom, is currently working alone on atomic research in a dusty laboratory in an unheated cabin on the outskirts of Heidelberg.

46.42 CONTINUING EFFECTS: The effects of spy rings continue until they are eliminated. Thus a spy ring placed in a minor country requires the opponent to reveal his DP allocation to that minor country in each subsequent YSS, and a spy ring placed in a major power requires the opponent to reveal both the existence of new research projects in each subsequent YSS and the existence and location of new secret installations when they are constructed. Similarly, die roll modifiers continue indefinitely until the spy ring concerned is eliminated.

Germany does not have any active atomic research projects

Effects of a spy ring on a major power

1) reveal all codenames of currently active projects in the chosen category
2) reveals locations of all secret facilities pertaining to that category

In addition, the spying nation gets a +1 on general research in that category
The spied on nation gets a -1 on gen research rolls for that category

Spy rings are eliminated through the use of a counter-intel research result

Germany pays 35 Brps to Declare War on the Soviet Union.

"we are doing you a favour" says German ambassador to the USA.

German economic interest in Russia cancelled (-5 brps to germany now, -10 per year)

Russian supply of oil to Germany is cancelled.

Germany has access to 5 oil per turn

3 from Ploesti
2 from synthetic oil centers

Italy is now also at war with the USSR at no extra brp cost.

Germany places airbase on j37, in east prussia on the baltic states border

Staging air units

Germany stages AAF as far forward as possible towards russia including 8 factors to Bessarabian fields at Cernauti and Kishinev, 11 in east prussia and 4 at Krakow.

Additional AAF stage to Hamburg, and the Yugoslav AAF stages to Durazzo in Albania

Counter-air missions

The morning calm is broken by the scream of Stukas descending on Kiev airfield. The disbelieving Russian airbase commander orders his men to finish their tea and get into the air.

2 AAF from Cernauti air field counterair the 3 AAF in Kiev. The surprise attack gives the russians a -1 air nat mod. This gives the russian air this turn an air nat mod of 0, compared to Germanys 2.

2 AAF attack at +2. I roll a 9! mod 11. a 1/3 result.
3 AAF defend at -2. I roll a 7! mod 5. a 1/1 result.

1 German AAF and 1 Russian AAF eliminated, 2 russian AAF in Kiev inverted, 1 GErman inverted.

Naval base changes

The damaged BB4 Littorio moves to Trieste shipyard

Italy's TF2 disolved. DD6 and CA2 rebase to Brindisi
Germany's damaged CA2, BC3 Gneisenau and BC3 Scharnhorst make their way to Kiel shipyards

Sea supply missions

Germany traces sea supply to Bergen, and to the Oslo beach hex

Italy traces sea supply to Tripoli.

As before, British submarines blockade tripoli harbor (Interception automatic, I roll an 8!) Libyan units draw limited supply from Tripoli.

Ground movements and overruns

Italian 2o5 near Athens withdraws to Durazzo
Italian 3-3 moves in towards Athens
Italian units in Libya fall back further towards Tripoli
Yugoslavs move into Greece to support attack on Athens

Operation Rotsturm

The German Surprise attack on Russia begins

Infantry rolls forward against teh Russian positions, up to the Dniester river in the south, overruning the hex J39 near the Baltic States

Surprise effects

Russian Unpreparedness

If the RGT level is less than 40 at the moment Germany declares war on Russia, the following apply in the first turn of a German invasion, in addition to all normal modifiers and movement impairments:

* During the Axis movement phase, Axis ground units must expend only one additional movement factor to leave a hex in the ZoC of Russian armor units, or to move from one such hex to another, rather than the normal two additional movement factors. During exploitation movement, the ZoC of Russian armor units impairs Axis movement normally.

* During the Axis movement phase and regular combat, Russian infantry units in eastern Poland, the Baltic States and Russia that are overrun or attacked by at least one Axis armor unit are subject to a -1 DM unless defending in an objective hex or IC. Other DMs apply normally to such attacks. This -1 DM does not apply to Russian units in the Finnish border hexes, Bessarabia or conquered Balkan countries and does not apply during exploitation movement and combat.

* During the Axis player turn, Russian air units have their Air Nationality DRM reduced by one.

* During the Russian player turn following the Axis attack, Russian armor units have a movement factor of two and Russian infantry units have a movement factor of one. Russian specialized units and Russian units in the Pacific theater move normally.

* The above impairments also apply to Russian associated and minor ally units outside their home country.

The defenders of J39 and I39 are both two 1-3 infantry, total defense 2

One is attacked by a 3-3, a 4o6 and 5AAF, the other by a 3-3, a 4o6, 4AAF and a 1m3 Fallshirmjaeger

I roll a 3 and a 4! The defenders are eliminated and the attackers continues their movement phase

Germany moves units forwards and stacks up armor ready for exploitation

At the end of the movement phase, the Russia front looks like this:

Invasion of Palestine!

Italy pays for a full mediteranean front offensive
Germany pays 4 brps for med limited ops

Italian DD6 and CA6 (CA4 deteched from TF1) Sea escort an invasion force of a 2o5 from Durazzo and a 4o6 from Brindisi, passing by the fopllowing route, within range of Greek air and naval interception.

http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/7928/palestineraidcopywy5.jpg

The Greeks do not intervene in this mission.

The Italian 2o5 lands at Palestine creating a breakthrough and a beachhead. The GErman 4o6 is held in reserve with the fleet

http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/8131/pales1zs1.jpg

Attack on Salonika

A total of 8 Yugoslav and Bulgarian ground factors attack the Greek 2-3 in Salonika

The Greeks have a DM of 2 so the total defense is 4.

The Greek AAF flies DAS

the Bulgarian and Yugoslav AAF intercept DAS

The battle is with no modifiers

The Greeks get a 7! a 1/0 result. The Yugoslav AAF is shot down

The Axis allied air gets a 4! a 1/0 result. The Greek AAF is also lost

The combat is a 2:1 attack - the balkan forces roll a 5!

Combined Balkan forces with the assitance of Wehrmacht military advisors launched a devastating assault that quickly had the Greek defense reduced to isolated pockets. Salonika was secured within 7 days of the beginning of the assault.

http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/3810/gre1ap0.jpg

Invasion of Malta

DD4 pick up 2-3 inf from genoa and invade Malta. 4AAF from Sicily fly ground support. TF1 provides shore bombardment (9FF bombardment=+3 ground support)

Total defense = 1 x DM3= 3 (fortress negated due to isolation)
Total attack = 2+4+3=9
attack = 3:1

I roll a 2! A stout British defense gets a Ex-1 result, but they eventually surrender. That's 2 factors lost to the Italians. Italy loses 2AAF.

Italy hoists its flag over Malta.

The British submarine is displaced to the nearest friendly port, which happens to be Suda Bay in Crete. Crete is in limited supply to the British unless a full supply line can be traced there.

21.23 DISPLACED NAVAL UNITS: Naval units at bases which are occupied by enemy units are displaced to the nearest controlled port with adequate basing capacity, regardless of its supply status

Assault on Oslo

Germany pays 6 brps for limited offensive western front ops, and assaults Oslo with a 2o6, 3-3 and 1AAF against a 1-3 defender

Total defense=1 DM2=2
Total attack= 2+3+1=6
3:1

I roll a 1! Strong Norwegian defense, but what did they expect? They were the vikings after all! An ex result. Germany takes 2 factors loss. He takes the 2o6 as chosen loss.

The Happy Times

5 Atlantic U-boat factors opposed by 3 ASW factors, target 12 transport factors

The mods in favour of the U-boats are

+1 naval nationality mod
+1 ULTRA U-boat card
+2 French submarine bases
+1 torpedo technology
-1 ULTRA ASW card

Total= +4

First U-boats roll a 5! +4=9. a 1/3 result. 1 transport eliminated, 3 damaged
ASW rolls a 2!-4=-2. No U-boats stopped

Additional damage. 5 u-boats get through with a +4 mod makes 9 transports eliminated.

There are only 8 left, so the Atlantic shipping lanes have been shut down. No oil may get through.

There are now three damaged transport factors in Glasgow.

Attacks in RotSturm

There are 4 attacks: 3 in the north and 1 in the south

http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/949/russiacopyrb9.jpg

1.The northernmost is against the Russian 3o5 armor

Defense strength of 3o5=6
Attack strength = two 4o6 =4AAF=12
Ratio 2:1

Russian 2AAF fly Defensive air support (DAS) from E43
Luftwaffe 1AAF intercepts DAS

2.The next one down is against a 3-3 and 1-3

Defense strength= 4 (Defense mod =2-1 for surprise effecton infantry=1)
Attack = two 3-3 +2 AAF=8
ratio 2:1

3.The next one down = two 1-3 inf
defense=2
Attack=three 3-3 inf=9
ratio 4:1

4.The one in the southern sector, strikes North of the Dniester, to avoid the river defensive value.

defense = two 2-3 =4
attack = 2o5 +three 3-3 +1AAF= 12
ratio=3:1

Russian 5AAF fly DAS
4AAF luftwaffe intercept DAS

Air battle for Attack 1. Germans have +2 mod, Russians -2. Germany rolls 10! mod 12 on the 1AAF row=1/3. 1 russian shot down, the other aborted
Russians roll a3! mod1 on the 2 row - no germans shot down.
All DAS intercepted.

Attack 1, ratio 2:1 I roll a 3! Ex-1 result. Germany loses 3 factors, which is 1 4o6. Germany places a breakthrough marker on the location of the battle, and moves six 4o6 onto it ready to exploit

Attack 2, ratio 2:1. I roll a 3! Ex-1 result. Germany takes no losses

Attack 3, ratio 4:1. i roll a 5! a D result, no losses to germany

Air battle for Attack 4

4 German AAF at +2 roll a7! mod 9. a 2/3 result. To russians shot down, 3 aborted
5 Russian AAF at -2 roll a 3! mo1d1= 1/2 result. 1 German AAF shot down

All DAS intercepted

Attack 4, ratio 3:1. I roll a 3! Ex-2, which means no losses to germany. Germany palces a breakthrough marker onto the defeated unit and moves two 4o6 onto it ready to exploit

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We just have to kick in the door and the whole rotten structure will collapse

This is the Russian front at the end of the attack stage of the combat phase, but before exploitation has taken place. The northern sector of the Russian defense has been blown utterly open.

Exploitation phase

Rommel ist in Afrika angekommen!

http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/8695/rommel4av1.jpg

The German 4o6 held in wait behind the Italian invasion of Palestine, springs out from the invasion force and loops south to attack the Indian 1-3 defending Port Said from the landward side.

The defenders get -1DM for defending against exploiting armor, so the total defense is just 1 against an attack of 4, so a 4:1.

I roll a 2. An Ex-2 = the defenders eliminated and the axis take no damage.

http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/1651/pales2yo2.jpg

The axis are in control of Port Said. Furthermore, the acis zoc prevents oil getting through from Mosul to British african forces and prevents supply from getting through from Suez.

However, British units in Africa may still draw limited supply from Cairo so long as it is in British control

Exploitation in Russia

There is a lot of it:

The southern sector sees no combat: 2 4o6 units move south to cut off supply to all the front line russian units

http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/9637/rus1rq3.jpg

the northern sector is more ambitious, and with 6 armor units stacked ready for exploitation, the opportunity for chaos is great.

Two 4o6 go to secure Talinn.

http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/5119/balticcopyru1.jpg

Moscow evacuated with as much industrial equipment as possible

As reports increasingly warned of the approaching German armoured columns, the political paralysis in Russia transformed into political panic. Desperately the Russians moved what machinery they could onto outbound trains while under constant artillery fire. Then for the second time in history, Russia was prepared to surrender her capital, but not her will or ability to fight.

The remaining four 4o6 armor exploit towards Moscow, leaving the chain of exploiting armor connecting them and the breakthrough. The exploiting armor attacks the defenders of Moscow with a strength of 8. The defenders have a strength of 1, with a DM of 2 (not reduced since defending a captial/objective/IC) - the attack is 4:1

Germany rolls a 6! The defenders are eliminated without loss to the axis. Moscow is now under axis control.

- The IC of Moscow is reduced in value by 5 points to 5 brps, and is now controlled by Germany
- The russian BRP base is increased by 5 to represent the evacuation of industrial equipment
- even if recaptured, moscow's value as an IC can never rise above 5.

http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/3057/moscow2jm4.jpg

16.32 Exploiting armor units may enter enemy controlled hexes, move backwards through friendly hexes, or both. The first exploiting armor unit may move into a hex adjacent to the breakthrough hex, then (Europe only) into one additional hex adjacent to the first hex entered. In addition to any limits on movement relating to its movement factor, the first exploiting armor unit may not enter more than two hexes (one hex in the Pacific).
16.33 A second exploiting armor unit may move one or two (Europe only) hexes from the breakthrough hex, using a different route from that used by the first exploiting armor unit; or it may exactly duplicate the route of the first exploiting armor unit and then, if it is able to do so, move one or two (Europe only) additional hexes.
16.34 A third exploiting armor unit may move one or two (Europe only) hexes from the breakthrough hex, using a different route from that used by the first two exploiting armor units; or it may exactly duplicate the route of the first, second, or first and second, exploiting armor units and then, if it is able to do so, move one or two (Europe only) additional hexes.
16.35 This process is repeated indefinitely, until all exploiting armor units that wish to move have done so. Movement from the location of other exploiting armor units is subject to the same restrictions as movement from the breakthrough hex itself. In no circumstance may an exploiting armor unit exceed its movement factor. Terrain, the presence of an enemy ZoC, and the execution of overruns restrict movement during exploitation in the same manner as during regular movement. An exploiting armor unit may always move at least one hex (13.411 (mk:@MSITStore:C:\Documents%20and%20Settings\User\ Desktop\AWAW.chm::/Source/13.HTM#13P411)).

Japanese unit construction

The results of one of the fall 1939 mobilisation are coming through

Japan has a Unit Construction Limit (UCL) of 28 BRPs, and quite a lot of units to build

shipbuilding (9brps)

DD2 is launched (no cost)
BB5 Musashi is advanced (3 brps, 1 sbp)
Keels for DD2 are laid down (6 brps, 2 sbps)

19 brps remain

Japan has mobilsed 5 eNAS. Japan has a current Naval Air Training Rate (NAT) of 3, so only 3 eNAS may be constructed this turn

3 eNAS (3 brps)
3-2 (3 brps)
five 2-2 (10 brps)
1AAF (3 brps)

total 28 brps

In addition, this turn French Indochina falls under Japanese control. Japan receives 5 Brps for the prorated 10 brps value of the territory

Italian Unit Construction

Italy begins repair of the 2 damaged heavy ships (no brps, 2 sbps, 2 turns for repairs)

Italy spends 5brps to construct 2 replacements in Italy and 1 AAF in Sicily

After construction Italy has only 8 brps left for the winter.

Germany may lend brps to italy if needed.

German Unit construction

Germany's UCL is 48 (reduced by 2 from bombing, conquest of Norway eliminates penalty from the mining)

Shipbuilding:

Germany uses 6 brps and 2 sbps to launch the CVL2 Graf Zeppelin and advance the BB4 Tirpitz. Repairs begun on the damaged CA2, will be ready in Winter.

Germany has 42 brps remaining on his UCL

constructs a 2o6 armor in colgne = 4brps

Germany spends the remaining 38 brps on

twelve 3-3
1 replacement
1 1-3

Redeployment

http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/2812/armoured20train20in20cotv4.jpg

Armored trains snake through Russia from the front lines to the Moscow salient

Germany attempts to SR the two 4o6 out of Moscow, back to safety, while SR ing two more expendible 3-3 infantry into Moscow.

To see if this is permissible we need to reference the rules

A. ORIGIN AND DESTINATION: Units which SR must begin and end their SR in an objective or mapboard box controlled by their alliance faction. The origin and destination of an SR must be different; a unit may not notionally SR in order to then TR (28.13E (mk:@MSITStore:C:\Documents%20and%20Settings\User\ Desktop\AWAW.chm::/Source/28.HTM#28P13E)).
B. PATH AND DISTANCE: Units which SR trace a path, subject to the normal restrictions on redeployments (28.2 (mk:@MSITStore:C:\Documents%20and%20Settings\User\ Desktop\AWAW.chm::/Source/28.HTM#28P2)), from one objective or mapboard box to another, regardless of the distance involved. Air units which SR must have a chain of air bases between objectives (28.341 (mk:@MSITStore:C:\Documents%20and%20Settings\User\ Desktop\AWAW.chm::/Source/28.HTM#28P341)).
C. NUMBER OF UNITS: Each turn up to two ground units and five air factors may be SRed into each objective. Similarly, each turn up to two ground units and five air factors may be SRed from each objective. These limits apply independently; an objective may send and receive SRing units in the same turn. Each flak factor is considered to be one ground unit when determining SR limits. There are no other limits on the number of units an alliance faction may SR each turn.

What are the normal restrictions?

28.23 REDEPLOYMENTS RESTRICTED TO CONTROLLED, SUPPLIED HEXES: Units being redeployed may only enter or pass through controlled, fully or partially supplied hexes, including those subject to oil effects (EXCEPTION: Air units may fly over unsupplied hexes - 28.342 (mk:@MSITStore:C:\Documents%20and%20Settings\User\ Desktop\AWAW.chm::/Source/28.HTM#28P342)). In a multi-player game, units may be redeployed over hexes controlled by an alliance or coalition partner if the partner consents.
28.24 REDEPLOYMENTS TO NEWLY ACQUIRED HEXES PERMITTED: Subject to the restrictions of 28.25 (mk:@MSITStore:C:\Documents%20and%20Settings\User\ Desktop\AWAW.chm::/Source/28.HTM#28P25), units may redeploy into and through hexes acquired during the preceding movement or combat phase if the hexes are fully or partially supplied during post-combat supply determination.
28.25 REDEPLOYMENTS NEXT TO ENEMY COUNTERS PROHIBITED: The redeployment of a ground, air, naval or SW unit may not begin, end or pass adjacent to an enemy ground, air, naval or SW unit, partisan, airbase counter, rocket base, bridgehead, port counter, railhead, fortress, fortification, IC or secret installation, except as allowed by 28.26 (mk:@MSITStore:C:\Documents%20and%20Settings\User\ Desktop\AWAW.chm::/Source/28.HTM#28P26). This prohibition applies to the flight path of air units between air bases. Q&A (mk:@MSITStore:C:\Documents%20and%20Settings\User\ Desktop\AWAW.chm::/Source/FAQ.htm#28P25)

So, for the SR to work, there must be a line traceable between German controlled territory and Moscow that at no point is adjacent to a russian units

http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/4868/srcopytb5.jpg

you can see here that this is possible

Germany lays airbase in H43 and moves 2 unused AAF to it

A few other redeplyments occur:

Norway's garrison reshuffled

German TF1 redeploys to the Murmansk box

1 U-boat NRs to the mediterannean through Gibraltar - now based in Sicily.

Then the axis uninverts all units, and the axis turn ends

Allied fall 1940

Diplomatic phase

Fist fight breaks out in Washington between British and German delegates!

Outraged by this latest season of German aggression, Roosevelt pushes past a bill for a second Atlantic mobilisation. In addition a Lend-Lease bill is approved. This turn 3 brps may be sent to Britain and US Atlantic shipyards may be used to construct British CVEs and Atlantic transports

US economy increased by 25 BRPS

USAT jump to 29

Mobilisation fever catches on in the Pacific. The occupation of French Indochina now puts Japanese units within spitting distance of the US colony, the Phillipines, raising tensions to 11.

US Navy Pacific Fleet ordered to redeploy to Pearl Harbor along with 2AAF and 3 infantry factors

US mobilises 20 brps of Pacific theater units, US BRP base icnreased by 25 brps

Oil and BRP adjustments

Britain has no oil drawn from across the Atlantic.
South Africa draws 3 oil from Persia using 3 Indian Ocean transports

Britain uses only 1 oil from the reserves to service the economy - Britain takes 4 oil effects for construction, air, naval, and army

British Brp losses due to the U-boat campaign

Britain loses the full 25 brps from the atlantic, and 2 from the Indian Ocean for a total loss of 27 BRPs

The British UCL is thereby also reduced by 9 BRPs to 31

Russians mobilise new IC in Magnetogorsk

The value this turn is 10 Brps

As always, we follow the sequence of play to guide us through the movement phase (you should be getting tha hang of it by now ;))

Sequence of play
5. Movement phase
a. place airbase counters
b. staging of air units
c. announce and resolve counterar missions
d. air attacks on patrolling submarines
e. annonuce naval base changes, patrols and movement of naval units to and from SW boxes
f. resolve patrols
g. harbor attacks
h. resolve base changes and movement of units to and from SW boxes
i. initials supply determination

.....v. air supply
....vi. determine supply status
j. air and sea transport
.....i. movement of ground units to ports or airports
....ii. air and sea transports announced
...iii. resoution of air and naval interactions
k. ground unit movement and overruns, including completing movement of units already using air or sea transport
.....i. defensive air support for units being overrun
....ii. interception of defensive air support
...iii. air combat resolves
l. eliminate units still overstacked from retreat during enemy attrition option.

So for both russia and the western allies, we look for placement of airbases, and staging AAF to new bases up to 8 hexes away, followed by naval movement activites including sea supply

Odessa Run

The Soviets inspired by the leadership of Comrade Stalin send a convoy to relieve the stout socialist defenders of Odessa. The Red Air Force engaged the enemy in a series of battles over the water fighting off the superior German air time and time again. Much of the Soviet flotilla was damaged or destroyed in the encounter, but the mission was a success and much vodka was conumed in Odessa and Batum alike.

Russia stages all 5AAF in the vicinity of the south to Sevastopol to provide air cover for the resupply of Odessa

The merchants themselves are escorted by a CA2 and a DD1

If this succeeds, the 5 factors in Odessa will receive full supply, but the supply will not go further into the cauldron because of the effect of the zoc
http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/7133/odessaruncopyjf0.jpg

Luftwaffe intercepts the Odessa run in the last two hexes (2 attack opportunities)

The attacking forces are 6 AAF with air nat mod 2

http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/9193/odessaruncopyer2.jpg

So all AAF turn to AAS for the air naval battle

The Russian forces are

DD1+CA2 + 5 cover AAS
Russian naval mod=0, air mod=1

The German forces are 6 attack AAS

German Air mod=2

The first hex of engagement

Air cover engage attacking air squadrons

5 Russian AAS engage 5 German AAS

Russian mod =-1
German mod =+1

Russians roll: 11! mod 10 a 3/4 result
Germans roll: 10! mod 11 a 3/5 result

A lethal round of combat, both sides lose 3 squadrons, no german squadrons get through to the fleet. There are 3 German AAS left, and 2 russian.

the second hex of engagement

first 2 Russian air squadrons engage 2 German air squadrons

Russians roll: 5 mod 4! a 1/0 result.
Germans roll: 5 mod 6! a 1/1 result

1 more german and 1 more russian AAS shot down

2 German AAS face the antiaircraft fire of the Russian flotilla. The russians roll a 6! on the 1 column this is no AAS shot down.

2AAS engage the flotilla with a mod of +2

Germany rolls a 4! mod 6 - this is only 1 hit! A Soviet destroyer is sunk.

Supply mission is successful! The 5 infantry factors in Odessa enjoy their fresh supply of Baltika Beer and ammo!

Germans engage one more time as the CA2 returns to Batum

First 1 Soviet AAS engages 1 German AAS

Russia rolls: a 9! mod 8 a 1/1 result
Germany rolls: 6! mod 7! a 1/0 result

Both sides lose attack squadrons, none get through to the flotilla

Final hex of battle

Now without air cover the russian flotilla faces attack from 1 German AAS and 1 Rumanian AAS (brings air mod to 0)

Russian air defense rolls an 8! a 0/1 result. The Rumanian AAS is aborted. The german AAS (mod 2) attacks the squadron

Germany rolls a 7! mod 9. 1 hit! the CA2 is damaged

The Soviet cruiser squadron limps back to Batum.

Initial Supply determination

British troops in Egypt and Libya are unable to draw supply from South Africa because of Suez being blocked - they draw limited supply from Cairo.

The Russian units in Riga are isolated and will be eliminated at the end of the turn unless supply is reestablished

The Russian units between Odessa and Q37 are isolated and will be eliminated unless supply reestablsihed

Russian units in Odessa are fully supplied thanks to the courageous russian covoy

In this picture you can see the northern and southern isolated pockets

The British submarine changes port from Suda Bay in Crete to Tobruk in Libya. EDIT: My mistake - this should be to Alexandria.

British ground forces in Africa move back towards the East, and a 1-3 moves in to Suez port adjacent to the German

British attrition germans in north Africa

at -2 due to CTL difference - rolls a 5! mod 3, no damage

Communist Chinese attrition Japanese no mod

i roll a 6! 1 counter

Nationalists attrition Japanese at -1

I roll an 8! mod 7. 3 counters

Russians move units forward and attrition the Germans

(38 factors)-2 mod (isloated units may participate in attrition)

http://img389.imageshack.us/img389/3797/rusataj6.jpg

I roll a 7! mod 5! that's a 4C/2H result

Germany loses 4 counters and Russia nominates 2 hexes for occupation. Germany takes losses from uncritical areas

Post Combat Phase Adjustments

The Soviet infantry units isolated in pockets, unable to regain supply, are overwhelmed and eliminated

Units eliminated due to isolation have their rebuild costs doubled if they are rebuilt in the same turn they are eliminated. The isolated units are four 1-3, two 2-3 and two 3-3. Stalin thinks it could have been worse.

27.13 RECONSTRUCTION COSTS DOUBLED: The following units may be rebuilt in the turn they are eliminated at double the normal BRP construction cost or in a subsequent turn at the normal BRP construction cost:
A. Units rebuilt in the turn they are eliminated as set out below. Such units may be rebuilt in a subsequent turn at the normal construction cost:
* Units eliminated by isolation.
* Isolated units which made offensive attacks without paying the normal BRP costs (9.82 (mk:@MSITStore:C:%5CDocuments%20and%20Settings%5CU ser%5CDesktop%5CAWAW.chm::/Source/9.HTM#9P82)).
* Units which were voluntarily eliminated.
B. Units built subject to construction oil effects (27.35 (mk:@MSITStore:C:%5CDocuments%20and%20Settings%5CU ser%5CDesktop%5CAWAW.chm::/Source/27.HTM#27P35)).

test for major power surrender

Great Britain

First Diplomatic points (the starting point on the surrender table is Britain's DP level):

+3 Basic allotment
+# Supplementary allotment (one for every 100 BRPs)
+1 Western Allied control of Warsaw, Oslo or Madrid (one for each)
+1 Western Allied control of all cities in Egypt, Libya and French North Africa
+1 Western Allied control of Paris, if France was conquered by the Axis
+1 Western Allied control of Antwerp, Brussels, The Hague and Luxembourg (one for group)
+2 Western Allied control of Athens and Belgrade (two for pair)
+1 Western Allied control of any objective hex in Germany or Italy (one for each objective hex)
+1 For each firestorm triggered solely by British bombing in the previous year
-2 Axis control of London
-1 Axis control of Birmingham or Manchester (one for each)
-1 Axis control of Alexandria or Suez
-1 Axis control of Baghdad or Gibraltar (one for each)
-1 Axis control of at least one hex in Britain (Scapa Flow is included, Ulster is not).
Suez is still under allied control, so the DP level is 4.

http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/98/britkd2.jpg

the level is therefore:

+4 for Diplomatic points
+1 for ratio of naval forces
+1 for one other major power at war with germany
+5 for ground/air units in the western front
-4 for oil effects
-4 for 6 atlantic transports
-1 for unbuilt commonwealth and british ground/air units (19 factors in total)
-1 axis control of Malta

Total=+1 Morale is getting shakey and rude noises have started to greet the prime Minister as he enters parliament, but no offer of surrender is forthcoming

Note: the russian recapture of Talinn has prevented a further -1 from no ground units in eastern europe
