Trying to create a game online and drawing a frustrating blank. Both me and my friend get an error message and no ping is listed when we try to set up our own games. We can join others no problem.

The error mentions firewalls, but we've tried all methods of getting around this with no success... any advice?

We're both running 1.4 by the way.

I'm going to guess that both of you are connected to the internet through a router. That is, your pc is connected to a router, and the router, in turn, is connected to your modem (cable, DSL, etc.). That's almost always the reason a person can't host a game (no ping) but has no problem joining one.

If you're using a router you won't have any problems connecting to play on another's hosted server game. However, if you want to host a game yourself, you'll need to set your pc/router up to permit doing that. If you don't, you wind up with a zero ping and no one will be able to connect to your game.

You need to port forward your router specific to SHIII. An easy and excellent way to do so is to go to http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm (http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm). First you'll see a comprehensive listing of routers. Select and click on yours. Then scroll down to the bottom and select and click Silent Hunter III. Yep, that's right: Port Forward already has the game requirements for SHIII. Just follow the instructions to set up your router for port forwarding and you'll be able to host your own online multiplayer games!

Umm, is not so easy.My Modem(Or router) if you want, is not listed in this site and I dont like the idea to download and install this programme to see and check the work of my router in my PC.This history with the ports TCP/UDP to be host is quite boring and frustrating.
Finally is all so complicated and bugy with the Sim, the start is a problem, 6 of 10 times muss eject CD, insert CD ,reload, and try other things, then the save and reload of the game, sometimes crash to desktop, then the slow Sim reload rate, and now this history of TCP/UDP for the Host.Only consolation, is a very nice Simulator, but the engine or the architecture of the programme is a nightmare.Lock ON or the series IL-2 can be taked as model, to how muss programme a Sim.
