Does anybody here know how to change the functionality of Quick Launch Buttons found on laptops?

These ones...

I want to change the programs they open up.

You'd have to re-write the keyboard driver.

I'm afraid that you can't change it at ease

The programs it opens is designed by a driver installed.

You either remove the driver, or adapt to the driver.

Fortunately my laptop only got only one quick launch button, and it makes my keyboard neat and tidy :D

What do you want to change it to/for though? I had no problem reassigning the keys for playback functions inside my player (e.g. my 'stop' button is now the 'random' button). :hmm:

I'd like to alter 2 of the 4 buttons.

At the moment one of them opens IE6 browser.
I'd like to change that to Firefox browser.

The other opens Windows Explorer Search function.
I'd like to change that to another program, probably Media Player.

Have you set Firefox as the default browser?

Hmm, maybe change the "Internet" option at the top of the Start menu to point to Firefox.
I'm not sure about the others, I use the Quick Launch buttons beside the start button for most things

Yes Firefox is already on my start menu.

Just thought it would be nice to have all 4 of the quick launch keys doing things I wanted.

That's interesting, because my laptop's quick launch for the internet used to open IE 6, and it has opened FF ever since I set it as the default browser.

:damn: I always manage to mess these things up :damn:

If I press the internet quick launch key IE6 still appears (Firefox is my default browser).

Wonder what would happen if I removed IE6 all together :hmm:

Or am I opening a can of worms here?

Given that you're on XP, you really can't, because IE6 is integrated into the OS (that's why XP is so prone to viruses). You could, however, upgrade to IE7, and see if that accomplishes anything.

That's not a bad idea.

But I might give upon this one.
I tend to be a bit conservative when messing with computers.
I would hate to have to pay someone money to sort out something I broke.
After all it works fine at the moment.

Thanks anyway though.

To be honest, upgrading to IE7 wouldn't be a bad idea anyway, simply as it is far more secure than the swiss-cheese that is IE6.

I'll stick with Firefox as my web browser, I don't use IE at all anymore.

You still use it for updating purposes though.

Do I ?

Guess you learn something new everyday.
Didn't know that.

Upgrading to IE 7 if you use FF as your default browser is a risk-free operation if that's what you're worried about.

I may do it, though I doubt it wil solve my quick launch key problem.
