Was poking about my map. Seems...conspicuously absent, at least in 1.4....

I took the precaution of emptying it out a bit before your arrival.:arrgh!:

They added in a ton of ports/labels to 1.5. Before this, RSRDC made a lot of map updates and typo corrections, which made a huge difference. I didn't have to go on Google Earth anymore trying to find a certain island or port.

You can read the longitude and latitude off the map.

The only reason Truk lagoon didn't get the name "iron bottom sound" was it was already taken!

But the water's too freakin' shallow to make it a very safe hunting ground for a sub.

But if you look at my map, you'll see I did OK. It was a white knuckle expedition!:yep:

In 1943 I found a huge fleet there - Ise and Yamato battleships, a half dozen heavy cruisers, 2 fleet carriers, and a dozen or more DDs and other escorts. They were all anchored - true, in very shallow water (periscope depth meant dragging the keel).

Well worth the risk given the possible reward. It just takes a lot of patience to sneak in within range, and I cannot imagine doing it without radar!

We (USS Balao) ended up sinking both the Yamato, and a Shokaku carrier. True, the boat got pretty banged up, and a few of the lads had some swell bruises :D But we made it back to Pearl (okay, limped in, but any time you tie back up to the pier still floating is a good patrol, right?).

Not sure if you ever seen the History Channel's "Battle 360" but Truk is going to be on the next episode.

Really ticks me off that th History Channel only plays 360 once or twice a week and only at night, plus the fact it is not availible On Demand. I have to work night shift so I've only been able to catch it once (the Guadalcanal episode).
I really enjoyed it. Does anyone know if it is up anywhere on the web?

If you go to their website www.history.com (http://www.history.com) they have full episodes. Not all of them but two from past week. I think San Cruz and Enterprise vs Japan.

I work nights too and love this show.

Thats odd. I have 1.5 and Truk isnt labeled. Hell, there arent any labels around Truk lagoon.

Don't rely on 1.5 alone. Download a mod and check again. It may be there. Unless, of course, Navy Intel has deemed otherwise. Oh, and you may get a visit from the 'You revived a pretty old thread' office of old thread non-revival redundant redundancy bureau commitee. :DL
