Wooohoo! I am back!
Just got my new PC put together, connected it, done with driver updates and all that stuff, and loaded up my new Sh4.
I haven't really gone too deep into it, seems like I am so used to Uboats that all of this a bit new territory. One thing though, is i have to get back into using the mods, because I can imagine game can be made better. Some things I expected to look better, like the water coming out of the boat... not super.
In what order should the top mods be installed? Any tips?
Once photoshop is installed, ill take some shots.
Oh, and here are my final specs, thanks to the advise from this community:
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66ghz E8200
GeForce 8800GT
RAM 4GB
500GB Sata HDD
LG 20in wide screen
LG DVD RW
Logitech MX Revolution mouse
Logitech silent keyboard
Blutooth, WiFi
extra case fans, zalman
Running on Vista Ultimate 32bit
Total price is about 1500usd.
Woohoo, I was wondering what happened to you!
Well, the new add-on just came out for SH4, so there's a bit of chaos with the mod situation. A lot still needs to be made compatible.
For 1.04, you absolutely need to have ROW (Reflections on Water), RSRDC (Run Silent, Run Deep) Campaign, NSM (Natural Sinking Mod) and RFB (Real Fleet Boat) or Trigger Maru (which includes most of ROW and NSM too I think).

Is your new rig running it smoothly? Gonna have to upgrade to a new computer myself in the next few months. The 'ol Dimension XPS ain't cutting it no more.

I`m guessing it is. I have a pretty similar setup:
Core 2 Duo E6600 (2,4ghz)
2GB DDR2 PC6400
MSI 8800GT
Everything on full with 8x anti aliasing in nvidia control panel, and usually inn the 100+ fps. (Around 70fps near land)

Nice to see some familiar names pop up here.
Just bought sh4 now cos the uboat expansion caught my eye in the shop so am installing them both and having a play today.
Never really took to it when it was first released but new pc should improve things from then.

hi,
thanks for the links. Updating the game to proper standards is always a love-hate type of thing!
Rig is running smoothly, but one of the aftermarket fans on the GPU is noisy and probably will need replacing, because I expereinced one loud start already and I donät like it at all. So Ill have the shop look at it after I can drive the PC around in my car which is unfortunately in shop next week to get repaired after minor vandalism.. :) Complicated!
But I am still experimenting with taking max spec pics. Fraps showed me 30fps in balttle of coral sea, but I dunno if I should trust fraps taht much when it was recording videos... :)
PS. Im loving the MX Revolution mouse. Unreal how small thing like that was improved after I had played with generic mouse.

heh, shuttle XPC is what I had before. :D The thing I have noe is about 4 times in size. Can't say Im too crazy about it.
One other thing i noticed that compared to a system I built myself 5 years ago, all components are so much flimsier, bar video card and mouse.
The monitor stand is all plastic, the ports for USB and other things all look flimsy and thing. The NEC monitor I had had a solid metal base, thick quality plastic, and looked as if it was built for military! I guess with price of oil 3 times it was 5 years ago you can see where costs are cut these days.

It's might not be a bad fan. The 8800GT (and ATI's HD2900) are notorious for being VERY noisy when the fans run at full speed.
What you may be experiencing is the fan cranking up to 100% during boot before the fan control portion of the drivers kicks in and slows it down
Of course it could be a noisy/bad fan, but best to check on the noise level with some of the other Nvidia users before throwing money at it.

nah, im pretty sure smths not right, because i once connected the monitor to wrong port on card, the blue one (monitor has white) and it started the noise. I switched to other port on card, white one, and that did the trick. Next morning i start up the machine, its same thing... so not slot related apparently... so i opened the case, see that a wire is kinda loose in hitting the blade of one of the fans. I let it free, and close case, now works again. What was this? I dunno.... Butits running silent. VERY silent. I dont have 8800GT stock fan - the guys at the shop told me straight up about the problem so we put something better in there... but may be part was falty, may be the loose wire made it confused and made it work at top speed... i dunno. but all ok for now, knock on wood.
I have to say though, at MAX res with MAX everthing it is not super smooth high fps.
And my mobo wont support 2 GPUs via SLI. :( wish I knew about that one before, but how was I supposed to know that the frigin game these days are okey with a vid card, but theyd REALLy like it if there were 2 or 3 (Crysis anyone?).

I bought an ASUS A8N SLI board a few years ago and installed dual 6800 ultra GPU's (top-o-the-line at the time). I wouldn't be so worried about missing out on SLI.
Few things to know about SLI before you plunk down double the cash...
1) SLI exists on a single monitor only. If you have dual monitors, the second one is disabled while SLI is turned on. Certain games like FS X are more fun to play with multiple views on seperate monitors. In which case, SLI cannot be used.
2) I did NOT notice a doubling of performance on any game that I played in SLI mode. In fact, within 2 years the newer single nVidia GPU's seemed to be outperforming my dual 6800's anyway.
3) I spent more money on the 2 GPU's than most people spend on their entire system!
4) The one positive I got out of having 2 GPU's had nothing to do with SLI. Rather, it was playing FS with 4 monitors. I had wraparound views out every window of the cockpit. That was actually very cool. I wish more games would support multiple windowed views like that...
Really looking forward to trying SH4 when I upgrade this year, heck even GWX runs pretty slow on my machine. I'll get the addon but stick to Pacific stuff with SH4 and use GWX til I can get the same content GWX has into SH4 when I can do both theatres. Maybe someday, other navies too?

FYI , SH4 patch 1.4 with fog off runs better frame rates than SH3 GWX . This is on a 5 year old comp with 2.4pentium , 1 gig of dr400 ram , X800 ati pro graphics card . I am achieving 35 fps outside views with 4xaa and 4xaf . The addon improves this even more . cheers sober out .
