I already played till the late of 1944, but still don't have any news for XVIII.
Does anyone know how to have one?

From the setting of XVIII, it should be available on April of 1944 with 30000 renown.

Just got mine after 6 patrols in the IXD2, enjoying it for a bit.

You actually get it with Renown, like SH3?

I think as with boats in SHIV, you are simply offered the boat once you get enough renown through your campaign (whether you spend it on upgrades or not) :hmm:

No, you have to get a certain amount of renown to earned a new command on the walther boats.

I got to about 16000 renown (which wasn't very hard) then i was offered a new command which was a walter boat and i keept my renown. managed to get well over 20 knots on the surface using the walter turbine too.:D

Which is limited, does anyone know how to mod the amount of H2O2 on the XVII?

It's in the SIM file (data/submarine). The XVIII will run 202 miles at 24 knots with the turbine engaged.

XXIII Boats, Those little Elektros that could carry only 2 torps that had to be loaded externally?

For the H202, 202miles with 24knt. is it real for the XVIII and XXI to have such limit?

The XVIII boats we're never actually completed, so we'll never know

Don't know if the XXIs had the hydrogen-peroxide drive...

XXI's certainly did not. The XXIII's did (on paper, since that's where they existed), and the range certainly doesn't sound unreasonable.

From http://www.uboat.net/types/xviii.htm

Range
(nm/kts)
3000/17 sf
45/4 sm
202/24 sm*

it seems that so little fuel and battery they have, compare with ixd and xxi =.=

Err, the XXIIIs we're operational even before the XXIs

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_XXIII_U-boat

We're talking about the XVIIIs (18), not the XXIIIs (23)

It's quite easy (ok, really easy) to modify the game to start a career in the XVIII, even in the 1943 campaign. The only thing is you start out with some technologies (advanced radar, advanced sonar, etc) that arent normally available that early.

I dunno how long the H2O2 lasts for range, but I was able to do 25kts submerged, and something like 29 kts surfaced running on it.

I can make 25 knots underwater, and usually 28 surfaced, but the range of that thing SUCKS :damn:, would much rather have an Elektro, atleast those can stay underwater...pretty much forever...

I got it by going into the german UPC data, flotilla start date, and find the final starts dates "road to home" and removed the semicolin in front of this feature that was nixed by the devs for some reason.

The boat is awsome to say the least.

How do you open a .sim file? I must admit that I don't have a clue.

Pythos and rulle34: I updated the Start career with XVIII thread with instructions how to enable the XVIII for the 1943, 1944 and 1945 career.
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=132224

hyperion2206: Use Skwasjer's S3D program to edit SIM files. Editing the H2O2 is quite easy with this program.

I actually posted somwhat detailed instructions somewhere around here how to edit the H2O2 but I can't find them.

edit: found them.
