Yep. If ever there was a two edged sword. So long as there are no John bon Jovi shots them I'm fine with that. ;) ;)

Yep, turns out there's something else that movie was good for (the other is a lot of good sound files for PA and SH4).

Good job!

did it really sucked that bad?
That's my question too. :88)

I've seen it lately again and I didn't like some aspects, but I enjoyed it in general. Why do you disregard this film so much? :hmm:

It's not bad as action movies go; but if you have anything to do with history, anything to do with ships or anything to do with submarines, it's a travesty. They get pretty much everything wrong, especially the procedures. It makes me grind my teeth every time I see a scene from it.

Hehe, :rotfl: ok, I see. :arrgh!: But what in particular, say, about submarines, is wrong? :ping:

Technical? Harvey Keitel blows three blasts on the klaxon, then shouts "Dive!" It's two for dive, three for surface. A little thing, sure, but they can't even get a little thing right? How about the underwater battle? Great effects, almost certain to fail in real life. The U.S. had to sneak out and pull an elaborate charade to get the Enigma? A better story would have been the real one. The Germans couldn't get their own boat running, but the Americans could? They fooled the destroyer and took it out with the deck gun? There are a lot more, but I can't remember, and don't really want to.

U-571 is right up there with Pearl Harbor as the kind of movies that make fans of the genre cringe. The true story is always better, but they have to make it for the average moviegoer.:dead:

Well, face it like this: the movie is a fictional story and never happened, the uboats are real, the interior are real and the image and efects are awesome, so thats the closest you'll get of a uboat, other then sh3. If you try to see it like this, then you might like it... Of course I like much better Das Boot... but U-571 have better effects, like the depth charges, in Das Boot its a repeat of the same scene, and it sucks... but the rest is perfect... Good would be to add U-571 effects and image to Das Boot.

Well I d/l'ed these and was about to try some out. Then I noticed the intro in 1.03 was just under 800k or so, where these files are 4,000k. Hrmmmm, me thinks I'll have to think twice unless I want to increase my load time.

This movie is one of the typical "U.S. - we´re bigger, the best, better than the rest - style" which really annoys me. Nothing against Americans in general but the way hollywood change historical facts make me sick. In combination with all that wrong technical things...
I know it´s only a movie, i don´t have to watch it :D

Maybe it´s the way things go. More and more younger germans believe that Hitler was from Switzerland and he builds the Autobahn... :damn:

However... the pics are great. I need some fresh loading screens :D

Pearl harbour is by FAR the worst movie I've ever seen. I was delighted when bombs start dropping as it was about to finish. Unfortunately we had to endure another hour or so and the Doolitrle Raid :damn:

I see, thanks for sharing your anger at the movie! :arrgh!: I didn't know the klaxon blasts thing, and as a bilge rat IRL I'll probably never be able to spot some absurd in such films (I hardly remember which is port and which is starboard; my last time on a ship was 10 years ago).

But I'll disagree with you at 1 point: U-571 is still much better than the "Pearl Harbour" one, that I'll never try to see again. :D

(I´m waited this moment very loong and now here it is:)

I´m the next guy in row who hate this movie, i also did not notice klaxon event(not informed about sub procedures too well) but here is my observation report whitch i add on Sailor Steve list: Look now....americans are fighting with germans on U-571 after few moments they are being attacked from another submarine, now here is the catch....americans maked up to dive, overstepp the language barrier on german instruments(not to include new soroundings and different placings of instruments, etc..) AND THEN they are in heroic manner sucseeded to sunk attacking german submarine(NOTE this: german sub was submerged and on good firing position, ready for battle, crew on Jerry sub was obviously expirienced submariners, but they did not sucseeded to outfight comfused(high close combat fatiqued) US submariners in surfaced (and damaged) U-571).

Another Hollywood unrealistic(americans are the greatest - i dont have anything against americans, actualy i have good friends on this forum who is from US, but movie industry is something else) RAMBO style movie.

About Pearl Harbour i even dont wana talk.....only this: expensive war soap!

Did you know that Das Boot firstly is planed to get produced in Hollywood and main actor needed to be Harrison Ford(or sombody similar, i don´t remeber..sorry).
You have this info on U-boat.net..just search related issues about Das Boot.
Luckily this is not realised, and movie are produced by germans.
Can you imaginate this movie how he will look.....i´m only certain that actors will have tons of gel in his hair.:rotfl: :rotfl:

I am having some difficulty using these loading screens. I can ofcourse name any of the TGAs to intro.tga and use them one at a time as intro screens.

But is it posible to use all intro1.tga-intro7.tga screens at the same time so that they get used randomly?

I inserted all of them in Menu\loading folder through JGME, but it didnt work. So any ideas??

Thanks.

1) Get SH3 Commander

2) Follow the link in my sig to get my Random Load Screens Mod

3) Follow the simple instructions (I'll be glad to help if there's any trouble)

You will then have 100 different loading screens come up at random, a different one every time you load the game, including those ones from U-571!

@ Sailor Steve

Thank you for the reply. The Loading screens mod is 135Mb and I have a slow connection. So before downloading, i'd like to know if using SH3 Commander is the only option, because I don't like to use SH3 Commander to launch my games (like to avoid the random changes it makes) and only use it for Nightclub and updating personal files.

Thanks for your time.

If you're using Commander you can do it yourself with just those screens. Inside the 'Random' folder make seven folders, and number them 1-7. Inside each folder you'll need another folder, each one labelled with the same date: 1-9-39. There should be at least one already there so you can see what it should look like. Place one of your Screen files in each folder. Make sure you take the numbers off of the individual files, as it won't work if they're numbered.

The bad news is you will have to load through Commander to make it work.

YES I CAN, I SAW HIM IN K-19: The widowmaker :rotfl:

Though I'm still undecided about who looked more ridiculous, him as a russian or Tom Cruise as a german in his last movie :damn:

The only thing I quite liked in PH were the special effects of the dogfights by Ben Affleck in a Spitfire over the channel. The BF 109 & the Spits looked gorgeous, and the special effects were nice.

What almost killed me was seeing the scene of the japanese attack, as there was a moment you could clearly identify many of the ships anchored at PH as .... modern Oliver Hazard Perry frigates :damn: Obviously a shot of current day PH, reworked in some areas to put the japanese airplanes over it....geeeez couldn't they have retouched a bit the frigates??? With some work they would have looked like WW2 Light cruisers, why the hell spend so much money in other stupid things and then leave the modern frigates there??

Oh, OK it's just Hollywood....
