A lot of us are playing through Xfire now, so if you are interested in DW MP, download it and register. Currently, there's couple of us playing saturdays evening mostly (European time) - Molon Labe, To Be, Cyklop, suBB, Foogleman...you can invite me to your friends list (when searching for players type bobbyzero and I'll except invitation when I get home and activate Xfire) and join us.

So, see you on Xfire! :arrgh!:

There is a growing group of DW players who meet regularly on GameSpy every Friday night (CET). The "leaders" have set up a new website with a forum, where we discuss the scenarios and plan DW sessions in advance - see www.dangerouswaters.pl (http://www.dangerouswaters.pl)

Last Friday there were 15 players (mostly, but not exclusively from Europe), the game lasted for about 3 hours and we didn't experience any network failures.
So miracles do happen :D

Until I officially reach a stopping point with this map set (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=121727), I’ll be pretty much out of pocket. I thought I was finished editing and was just about to release a playable beta, only to realize the job isn’t finished just yet. The thing is this 1st map w/ minor changes represents about 2/3 of the set, which is probably why I’ve been so dedicated to editing and troubleshooting more so than playing. And no telling what challenges await for the final map to create which will involve a new design from the ground up.

Sometimes I just don’t know when to quit but for good reason. :know:

FYI – here is the change-log (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=692628&postcount=21) of what it’s going to take to convert Map A to Map C. I made this as a road map to help me get finished much faster. Soon as Map C is finish, since it will take far less time than a new design, I'll start on map B, maybe take a short break and actually play the map for a change.

As soon as I officially have a playable beta ready, you guys will be 1st to know. Also the set will definitely involve a playable P3 to help the 688 escape from increased red defenses in light of the missile strike that took place in Map B, so stay tuned. :ping:

Just out of curiosity ... why don't you use existing places like the Subsim Radioroom, the CADC (http://www.commanders-academy.com) or the XFire DW Guild to set up games but instead create just another place ?

Xfire has the advantage of having a buddy list sort of system, you it's easier to just glance over at who is on. Forums only work well for scheduled matches.

EDIT: wait, read that wrong. Never mind.

I use any method to set up a good game, as long as it gets me there - I'm on CADC, Xfire, Subsim, GameSpy and maybe even in another community that I have already forgotten ;)

The problem is that not everyone reads Subsim (can you imagine?!), Xfire Guild and CADC have their periods of higher and lower activity, etc. A single source is usually not enough for me to have regular online missions (and once a week is enough).

Answer is very simple -2 slots below this topic I've put my own: "friday play" and only Cyklop responded.. I admited than no reason to try again (but maybe Im wrong). Now we have our website created ecsacty for DW and received some good results -hope to keep improvement.

Well.. I could say, that XFire is 'just another place' - DW was intended to work with GameSpy, so why people dont use it? GameSpy is native communication/multiplayer system for DW.

I'd like to invite you to GameSpy at 23rd of November. 21:00 (GMT +01:00). Please do specify your platforms at DangerousWaters.PL Forum (http://www.dangerouswaters.pl/forum) - we dont like reediting scenario at the last moment :)

In perspective:

Xfire Freelancers Guild – just another place

MSN contacts - just another place

ICQ contacts – just another place

Gamespy - just another place

CADC & Subsim… just two more other places…

Virtual fleets – some other places… I really don’t care for…. :nope:

It’s good we are having this conversation because I’ve always said we need to expand the resource pool of DW MP’ers, and at the going rate it seems to be working. And the more we can be able to say that ‘this or that’ is just another place(for freelancers - excluding virtual fleets) the better off we will be in establishing a network of freelancers we all can benefit from. I figure the larger the resource pool the better the likelihood that anyone can literally play DW MP at any time. It’s true to say that there will be a conflict in time, but if the resource pool is large enough, then time conflict shouldn’t be an issue. You may not be able to dive with select players because of the time conflict, but at least you can be able to dive a session immediately(ideal). Plus I think what really matters is just being able to play MP ASAP w/o having to wait for scheduled events. At either rate, we all win and we all benefit. :yep:

Heck, while we are on subject, you may as well go ahead and bring the family(DW.PL) over to The Freelancers Guild (http://www.xfire.com/clans/dwobjective/roster/). You’ll need to register w/ xfire (its free) and after that, just provide me with your xfire callsigns and I’ll send invites to the Guild and you are all set.

Also gamespy has a history you may or may not be aware of, AchtAchtel. Times have changed, so maybe things have changed at gamespy also.

Good stuff, let’s keep growing…

That's what I mean suBB. I don't want to favor any of the communication systems. I am kind of a person who doesn't like to make things better while they are actually doing fine. Last session we got over 15 people on GameSpy - we made a good match, and that's the reason why I won't switch to XFire. We got things going smooth on GS - moving people to other system can only discourage many of them.

About GameSpy - I dont know what are you talking about meaning 'the history' of GS - sometime ago I was averse to any kind of such 'gaming systems'. I use GameSpy just because DW is intended to work with it natively.

Hope we can meet at game lobby.

Regards,
Bartek.

I’m the kind of person that is always in favor of making things better even when things are doing ok, especially when there is no harm in it, nothing to risk, definitely nothing to lose and only everything to gain from it. Why limit yourself to ‘ok’ when you can achieve ‘better than ok’ That’s along the lines of joint ventures of these multi-billion dollar corporations(data / wireless industries for example), now making far more than anticipated simply because they were willing to give a small change a chance to see what comes of it.

For the record, The Guild was created to offer resources(contact info) to anyone who is fond of playing DW MP, that are outside virtual fleets and established organizations. Also I think you misunderstood me or maybe I didn’t make myself clear. I’m not asking you to switch, I’m making an effort to expand the resource pool in the form of means of contact, and I guess I could very well come on GS and accomplish the same thing. My experience in GS is its not very stable in terms of connectivity. For that reason we keep contact outside of GS and run IP dives, and when we did use GS it was mainly for staging IP dives when it was pretty much a ghost town. AFAIK GS isn’t very robust in dealing with router connections. I learned that hamachi generates a virtual IP to by-pass routers, making the connection seem like a LAN, which is perfect for someone with router connection blues. But anyone in that situation also needs to have hamachi also, which is controllable in network settings and if not disabled it will cause conflict with your standard connection.

About the history of DW at GS – lets leave the past in the past. If you had 15 people in a dive running LW/AMI then that’s an accomplishment.

Now, I’m curious… about 15 people and supposedly one dive.

Personally I don’t care for FFA dives so my interests lie in mission objective based MP. So I must ask, was this either FFA with all of these people in the same map, or some mission involving 15 platforms, or FFA / mission involving Multisation?

Truthfully I sniff around here and there at GS but usually nobody is home in DW. Right now I’m pretty much out of pocket since I’m working on a map set and trying to release a playable beta of one of the maps. (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=121727) After the beta there is at least another map to design but with minimum changes, and the last map will need to be designed from the ground up. Actually had a break from the normal (and if you are reading this, thanks Molon & Be). But until I get to a stopping point, I’ll be editing & running test cases. Btw the link is just a general idea, not finalized by any means. When the time comes I’ll release a features list along with the beta and download mirrors.

:ping: ya later.

Yes, it was a little misunderstanding. I can join XFire - seems no problem for me. I thought you were asking us to move whole community to.

About 'upgrading things that work' - generally I believe that sometimes upgrade can give you a lot of advantages, but it's like software - I am not upgrading software to new versions just because they were released. Firstly I need to read the changelog, read some users opinions, read the compatibility issues. I'm just careful.

About the router problems/GS - last session was played without LWAMI [next one is planned with - many unexpected players] and I was the host. I got stable, quick connection with 2 external IPs. I own my server with many services + my personal desktop I play on. We experienced dropping people from game of course, but it happened to only few people, some of them never had this problem - I guess it lies in their network problems.

People, who got router problems [can't understand the ports issue tho - I am studying networking, dunno why people can't manage their routers properly] can join directly to my IP.

Some info about scenarios we play - we don't accept FFA/Deathmatch style sessions. Every single scenario got briefing, objectives. Shooting for fun I can find easily outside DW community, here I am looking for some cooperation, more 'campaign' like style.
People are using many types of platforms, all actions are coordinated in teams. It was not our first or third DW session. We play regularly - that's the reason why we created DW.PL - to create stable community willing to play at any time.

Bartek

I haven't been as active as I would've liked because of real life but I'd love to join a match sometime today and through this weekend. I'll keep my Xfire up and running when I'm home.

Hey,

I tried to send an invite but it says you are already a clan member (i guess of another xfire group). Still, as long as you make contact with other DW players, you should be able to join sessions.

If you can somehow use a different handle, i'll process that one and it may work.

Welcome :-)

I actually only play DW in multiplayer mode. If it's offline then only for testing purposes. No AI beats a human opponent.

We play DW online on a regular basis. Check GameSpy every Friday 2100 CET (2000 UTC) and www.dangerouswaters.pl (http://www.dangerouswaters.pl)
There are also virtual fleets, DW players guild on Xfire, etc. Have a look around and search the forum for "multiplayer" or "online".
