I know many of you did not know this man, but while I volunteered at the U.S.S. Batfish I got to know him. His name was O.R. "Dick" Fogle an electricians mate who served on the: U.S.S. Haddock, U.S.S. Seawolf, and the U.S.S. Devilfish, he made nine patrols, and the life expectancy of a sub sailor was only four. This man was a real great man and I enjoyed the small time in which I got to know him, I just found out last thursday that he died three weeks ago. He told me many things in which I did not know. The world will not be the same without him, or any of the subsailors.
He told me that the captain on the Seawolf I believe was able to get under in 30 seconds, and that the captain was employed to help come up with the amazing shot in "Run Silent Run Deep"
I wish someone would make a credible movie about the sub sailors in order to perpetuate their amazing actions in WWII.

One man is trying, Brett Scott Miller he made an amazing video on the Batfish, but cant sell it because of music rights, the Batfish has it to show the visitors but they cant sell it which sucks. However he is making another movie, make sure to check out the Batfish section of the website because he has interviews of the crew.

here is his website: http://http://www.bretscottmiller.com/index.php

Hey Shoot, seems like your visit to the Batfish for that month over the summer really left an impression on you! Sorry to hear another goes on enternal patrol but his story was left with you. It is a special treat to get information from those that lived it! It is cooler yet when things that we know and do now are a direct result of what happend in WW2. Here is a perfect example. The best thing you can do is remember him like you did today. I hope next summer you get a chance to spend a month again on the Batfish. It is guys like you that keep the Batfish and her stories alive and what work you can do in that month on the Batfish goes a long way.

Salute!

Thanks AVG, I am trying to do all I can for the Batfish and the Sub sailors, I actually spent about two months and about 180 hours on the Batfish. At thanksgiving I will be going back down there, to visit my grandparents, and I will be going up there and working. I am hoping to go to Oklahoma state university so I can work at the Batfish during my breaks.

I want to talk to all the WWII sub sailors and record the stories in order to honor all of them. If anyone else wants to do the same it would be wonderful.
At Ken Burn's "The War" website it has a vetran interview book, with some suggestions on how to do it.
