Where does everyone find the most warship laying at anchor in Japan in the game, I always seem to miss the big groups when I go fishing.

You wont find any "big groups" at anchor. ;)

Most of the "big groups" are well under way.

Where to find them ? Well Ill leave that to the experts.

Truk was the IJN's major forward base during the war.

As famous as Truk was, it's not well emulated in the game. There are no base graphics and pretty much all traffic passes by at a respectable distance. I have found the line between Rabaul past Truk and up through Guam and Marianas heavily populated late '42. Mostly retreating after Guadalcanal.

My campaign (included in TM) as well as RSRD both have Truk as the "Pearl Harbor" it was for the IJN. I also have Tawi Tawi, Palau, and I'm working on Davao and singapore (the latter anchorage is NOT actually at Singapore, but nearby).

Whenever I get photo recon missions of Yokohama I usually see a heavy cruiser or two and possibly a carrier at Kamakura. I've never seen any formation larger than this in port but I also do not go looking for them.

I hung around Kobe/Osaka for quite a while dodging DD's and looking for the prize, but nothing. Came out of the bay and ran into a carrier group 'coming home' managed a carrier and a light cruiser before being run off. Just wasn't sure if they had anchoring spots. I know I came across an anchored BB in Palau at one time before, hence my question.

Running TM 1.63, I was in the area of Truk in mid 43 and got a report of a task force travelling 0 knots. I popped on over to the lagoon and anchored in there was a huge task force. I took a long shot at a Kongo and sunk her.

That was a one time deal though. Not sure how much you'd find on a day to day basis there.

I was coming back from a night photo mission up Tokyo Bay and just before making that turn to exit to the straight that leads to the gulf, sitting right there and waiting for me were the Yamato(sp) and a couple other heavy crusiers.

I have yet to see a carrier of any type.

Just luck, but I ran across a Japense task force with 4 carriers, 6 BB, 2 crusiers, and unknown number of DD's. This was in open ocean about an hour before dark. I had very little manuvering to do. I sat there as the lead escort went past per sonar. Task Force speed was approx 14 knots with my sub sitting just 800 yards off and perpendicular to the thier path. I managed 3 hits each on 2 carriers. I dove to 286 feet, silent running speed 1 knot with 5 degree of rudder. I can tell you I took a pounding but did survive and make it to Midway for much needed repairs. I did receive credit for the 2 carriers being sunk.

On another mission to Recon (forgot which anchorage) I made it in and got the pix, then on my way out a task force came in with carriers. I sat there waiting for them to anchor but much to my suprise they simply vanished from the game when they stopped. 1 hour behind them came a large convoy and did the same thing. On my way out and almost out to open water I ran across a single carrier. Daylight and still in the harbour entrance I would not surface and the range and angle to target was extreme. 6 fish fired with no hits.
