Like the title says, I'm looking for a flightsim concentrated on the Vietnam War. I have the choppersim from the devs of IL2, but I want one where you fly a jet.

The only sim that springs to mind concerning vietnam war, was ''Vietnam carrier ops''. not too sure if it was a add-on or not! for some other game :-?

What about Wings Over Vietnam, more a study sim of several planes than hardcore but fun from what I have read.

Looked up on the WOV, seems nice. Gonna see if I can find it. Hope there's lots of ground pounding missions. ;)

Wings Over Vietnam is pretty good fun, for stuff like Intruder night missions and the like, the flight model for the aircraft is somewhat generic, but there's enough of a variety between the planes keeps things interesting.

Don't expect it to simulate high alphas, every switch in the cockpit or anything like that (for that you want Falcon AF), but for a bit of turning and burning fun while you listen to a sixties soundtrack on Windows Media Player, its great. WOV can be improved massively with the commercial add on 'Yankee Air Pirate', which adds some very realistic missions.

Good atmospheric radio sounds on it and nice comprehensive wingman commands for a variety of tactical approaches are two major plus points. In this respect it comes fairly close to Falcon. You don't need to learn a million key commands to fly stuff either, which is another plus.

Great things about WOV, (and indeed all the sims from Third Wire, such as First Eagles and Wings Over Europe) are that developer support, modding and freeware is in abundance, and a great community surrounds these programs. There are tons of repaints and new add-on aircraft available for free from the 'net.

Recommended for the price.

Strike Fighters was another one that was a pretty good for its time. Although its not located in the vietnam theatre it encompasses alot of the technology used between the korean and vietnam conflicts.

You can try Battlefield Vietnam, that lets you fly jets, or if you're not fussy about actually shooting stuff, there's a Vietnam aircraft pack for FS too

I have BFV, but I'm looking for a pure flightsim. BF series is a bit arcadish. ;)

Took some screengrabs of the Intruder getting shot up by a ZSU-23, so anyone who's interested can see what the models and damage look like in WOV. As you can probably gather, messing with those is not a good idea...

I can sympathise with that Dowly, I got part of the tail of my A-10 shot off by a Russkie ZSU whilst rolling in on a East German airbase. Bugger me though if the Warthog didn't just keep rolling on. Tough buggers they are!

Oh, Wings over Europe was what I was using  When I'm feeling a bit more up to it, I've got an escort mission with my Super Sabre to complete. Already had some tangles with MiG-17s, and they have a very annoying tendancy to be able to flit out of my gunsight just as I get within range...and they killed my wingman last mission...
I avenged him... :stare:

Wingmen in this series are somewhat worthless against MiG-17's and MiG-19's. They will always bite it. Almost better to go it alone in an F-100 and take them all on yourself.

I'd have to agree. I'd pay $5 for it though. Emule.
