Welcome to the bar my fellow pilots this is the place to brag about your missions or drown yourself in beer for mucking up.

Just completed the Midway Campaign on IL2 and now it's June 1945 with my P-51D Mustang escorting Bombers, so far we have had it easy but I suspect those Japanese fly boys are planning something.

On CF1 latter today I got a impossible mission on my hands to destroy Hitler in his train thats well guarded with his elite fly boys.

I managed to finish our J8AH "Battle Royale" online mission with 11 kills judging by the score. 550 (+ 550 as I bailed out so, I only got ½ of the points.) 1 normal engine fighter = 100 points.

Well there I was in my Bf-109 G, Darn P-51s inbound to strafe another airfield.
Scrambled there with my 3 wingmen. Outnumbered 2 to 1.

Diving down on the attackers I followed one that had been hit by flak soon to catch up with my first victim. He got a good burst of cannon before I broke off. I looked around but left him for my wingman. I latched onto another and pasted him with cannon. I thought I hadn't done the job but he gently spiraled into the ground. My next victim was a classic. Already damaged I lined up and picked him off 20 feet above the ground. $ Hungarian 109 vs 10 P-51s and we took out 9. Not a bad days shooting....

This is what I love about this sim. You can pop in for a single mission or two and feel satisfied.

Did a fun recon in my Black Sea campaign. Straight on the deck at 520 kph over two warships. then got home elaving my flight to deal with the 19s. Took out an Arado floatplane I happened across on the way home.

I assume you're talking about IL2 '46? Because with CFS3 it is definitely hard to be satisfied with one mission. The campaign just doesn't do it for me, but I have to live with it.

the graphics arent so bad (besided the landscape..yuch)
but indeed you need quiet a system to get the graphics maxed out.
while IL2 has nice graphics as the engine is more system friendly

I've a 2.8ghz, 512 DDR ram and a 256 Nvidia FX5700LE
its just a matter of tweaking the gaphics right and you have good graphics and good perfomance balanced out :up:

how did you make it what game is that?

Glad you like it. It's lots of different things all glued together. As far as I recall, I used the following...

For the flying sequences:
Combat Flight Simulator 3 with repainted versions of the Aeroplane Heaven Mark 1 Spitfire and bf 109E. Some shots - notably the 'chase sequence' - were done in Battle of Britain 2, which is a pain in the ass, because BoB2 replays don't have sound on them so I had to add all that. Those flying sequences would probably have been a lot harder to do without Track-IR, so that deserves a mention too. I can't remember for sure, but I think that one of the close up firing shots might be from IL2 1946, but I might be mistaken on that. Most of these shots were captured using FRAPS, which is great and thoroughly recommended.

For the bits with the pilots, the dog and the car:
Those scenes were basically done in the game The Movies (which is great fun by the way), plus its add-on disk Stunts and Effects. If you fancy doing this sort of thing, I really do recommend The Movies game, as it makes it very easy to do. The backdrops for those scenes were made from screengrabs of CFS 3 and BoB2, which were then messed about with in Photoshop and imported into The Movies to use as static backdrops behind the 'actors'. The Spitfires you see behind the car are also done in that way, as a traveling matte shot. I also had to draw the dispersal hut and a few other bits and pieces from scratch, but I nicked the picture of the deckchairs you see in a couple of shots from off the 'net and cut it out in Photoshop!

For the editing:
Most of the editing is done in good old Windows Movie Maker, but some of the effects I wanted were not possible in WMM, so I imported WMV files into the animation program Moho. Things like the camera shake when the pilot fires his guns and some of the zoom shots were done that way. Also the matting shots of the Messerschmitt in the rear view mirror of the Spitfire is a composite of two different WMV files matched up frame-by-frame in Moho (i.e. manually rotoscoped). The pilot's outfits had to be composited in Moho too, using a PNG file placed over the footage of the pilots, this is because there is no flying helmet and oxygen mask costume in The Movies game, which is a bit of a shame as it would make things a lot simpler!


Voices:
The voices are all done by me, which you could probably tell by the bad acting! They were messed about with in the sound editing program GoldWave to get the necessary radio-style treble boost.

Probably the hardest bit of all was getting the thing to fit inside the maximum ten minute allowance for files uploaded to YouTube, as I had to ditch a lot of really great shots I'd made, in order to keep the running time down but still give it a bit of a storyline. The other tricky part was editing the music so that it fitted the mood of the shots, which required me to listen to the soundtrack CD to the film, Independence Day about 30 times. Incidentally, that's a great soundtrack (music by David Arnold) which I'd also recommend!

So, it took quite a bit of work (and I don't regard it as finished yet).

Good evening my fellow flyer's I am back and for me the war in CF3 fighting for Germany is over ending in a draw. Right then, lets get down to some very serious drinking, drinks for all.

Pfffh! You do yourselves a big favour and listens to what this ol' R.F.C bloke has to tell you, I have a great story from the front, just for you chaps!

I got a routine mission, to patrol behind our own lines. I tried to talk Major Mullen out of it, but he didn't want to hear any of the kind. So what could I do? I started in my ol' S.E 5 Viper together with my two pilots (Algy and a new chap, Perkins). We headed for the targeted area (around the town St. Quentin). Nothing happened on the trip over there and it seemed to be a boring patrol as usual.

But then, out of the sun, a cirkus with at least 10 huns jumped over us! There was Triplanes and at least 3 Albatros D.V, and all I had was a rookie and an old friend on my side, but what could I do? I fought to the bitter end! Or well....I survived, so it wasn't the end, but still! I managed to down 3 jerries and chased away another one with my last bullets. Algy scored at least 1 what I could see. Perkins was shot down over our own lines, don't know what happened to him yet. He's pretty banged up, I'm not sure if he'll make it, let's toast for Perkins lads! I don't know what to say really...and Algy then! One moment he is flying around like a paper-kite, and the next he is diving like a stone with 3 Fokker Dr1. on his soddin' tale. I was out of bullets, so he was lucky those chaps from 287th. showed up. They chased away any jerries that was left. Ah, I'm tellin' ya! The S.E 5 is a real treat to fly! Those swedes really knows how to make planes. What's that Dowly?.....oh, bugger off! And give me another beer Tom! I can't fly sober you know, then I might take this war seriously.....

The Biggles novels might be ostensibly aimed at younger readers, but that's not to say that they are childish in all ways. Capt.W.E. Johns' experiences form the basis for a lot of the anecdotes which appear in early Biggles stories, which makes them semi-autobiographical, and you can learn a lot about the period of WW1 flying in the RFC by 'reading between the lines' in Biggles books. I remember re-reading the bit in 'Biggles learns to fly' some time ago, and it brought a wry smile to my face when I read the bit where he loses sight of the airfield on his first solo circuit and has to land in a nearby field, as I recalled my own first solo flight when I nearly ended up doing the same thing (fortunately in my case I spotted it again). I heartily recommend anyone into aeroplanes reading the early Biggles books, you'll be surprised how enjoyable they are.

Must have had the most succesful mission in my Beau so far.

An anti shipping strike against anchored German ships. Got my torp into an AA cruiser and proceeded after the Arado float planes. Got behind one and with a quick burst took off his elevator. Then crossing over I took out a Bf-109. Another Arado was unlucky to cross my path and a quick burst split him apart. Then decided best to get home.

I'll post some shots later.

So there I am, in my p-40 or whatever, bloody japs were attacking us for some reason (prolly our wimminz) There fighting like goonswarm in a fleet of noobships, so its going pretty well till that tech2 gunner hits me in my elevation controls... Ok I pull off, got barely any elevation control but I can still fly, decide I better make a crash landing.

Using flaps to control hight I look for a spot to land, seeing none I decide the only way imma land is to set down on the field, so i'm doing that, seems like I'm doing well, lower gear... oops to fast and my gear goes flying off, prolly hitting a jap in the process, well I've done a belly landing before can't be that hard... so I pull down... oops must of done something wrong.... *BOOOOM* :p

Well I just deleted my Sturmovik campaign I had going... was doing well, had lots of ground kills and stuff and generally enjoyable but was getting a bit repetive... I went honorably though, was making my way to our target, 2 BF-110's and 2-3 109s came upon our flight of 3, I broke off to defend the flight but a 110 got behind me and injured me a bit, Wing leader ordered me home so I broke off, a BF109 came and put more shells along with another 110, but I was still flying, elevator gone, rudder still there along with roll controls but shes smoking, managed to break off the followers and began to limp home, made to 1000 feet, but I was over an enemy airfield, flak rained around me ripping at my torn struture, another shot and the girls not turning right, but im coming home I hope, map reports incoming bogeys and my squad m8s are dead or MIA, (not 100% realism =p)

Dont you just love those desperate battles? Yesterday, was flying online, US vs. Japan. I was on a A20, everything went fine in the beginning got to my target by flying very low (~150m), the target was on a hill, so I had my fuse to ignite the bomb 5 sec after the impact. Blew up 4-6 tanks with the bomb, turned back home. Half way down the trip home I got jumped by a lone Zero, scored a few hits to him with my tailgun and he left. The Zero obviously had told the rest of his team, that there was an lone bomber in their area and 3mins later I was chased by 5-6 enemy planes. I hit the deck and pushed everything I got from the engines.

At one point, one of my team's P40 came in to help, but was shot down in under a minute. The odds were stacking quickly against me as I lost my tailgunner. Now, with no defense cababilities, I was sure I was dead. Then I saw the most beautiful thing ever; in the chat box it read "Blue side has won the round. Loading next map in 10 seconds.". So, I was saved by the bell. ;)

Well, no. I actually spent A LOT of time after missions flying around and waiting for more enemies to appear. Fuel wasn't a problem after I downloaded the refueling mod for it. After about, oh, 5 hours of flying in 1 mission, I downed 20 planes. Again, this took A HELL OF A LOT OF TIME AND PATIENCE.

What I meant was, even if you could turn back to base, refuel and hit the skies again, your pilot in real life couldnt handle that. Well, he could, but after a time, he would be too messed up to even recognize a friendly plane from a enemy. ;)

also a good fight got some medium bombers untill one tail gunner shot my Engine and freezed immediatly....
but I damaged the Bomber som much that when I was going underneath hit the wreckage decided to spin right ontop of me....

the maps name is Kratos Slugfest
as he likes to shoot down Zero's
and actually he manages to down a few planes in the map....I guess he improves when there are Zero's to shoot at.

Are you sure that's a real shot? I downloaded the original from the URL and it looks suspiciously like some photo montage work has gone on when you examine the pixel interpolation in PhotoShop.

The light levels look inconsistent too, with very brightly lit paintwork and a heavily overcast sky, and I'm not convinced the reddish reflection on the underside of the fuselage tallies with the angles for a reflection of the terrain.

It seems rather odd that there appears to be no control surface deflections for something in a rather extreme attitude.

Well now that is a surprise! Even so, I do think the still looks like it's been messed around with in PhotoShop, but the actual footage shows the weather is a lot better on the fly-by than the still would have us believe.

In any case it's some pretty wild flying for an airliner, I've only ever seen a couple of airliners do that sort of thing for real, once a Boeing 757 at Woodford, and the the other time was a BA Concorde damn near doing a touch and go at Barton's grass strip of all places! Both were pretty wild to witness as must have been that Airbus! Frankly I was waiting for it to do a 'Habsheim' special.

Well... it seems that the curse of Bernard is true. :o Just finished my first flight after that post I made and... *sigh* God help us all..

Norway '44, I flew as a squadron leader of Mosquitos. Everything went fine after take off. I changed the formation to 'finger four'. As we got closer to the target, I switched the formation to 'diamond' and that's when everything started going wrong.

There was one guy flying ~100m ahead of me and as soon as I switched to the new formation, he 'hit the brakes', I just barely got around him, but my tail hit his wing and he hit the water at 300km/h. :doh:

And soon after that I lost control of my plane as the whole vertical tail thingy was gone and had to bail out. :roll:
