I been getting a pretty good refresher course on my math with SHIV's release. Thought I'd pass along some of the basics considering there are so many noobies (including myself) coming into these forums who are new to "realistic" plotting methods.

I would've placed this in the newb/neophyte/trainee/beginner's section of the forums but we don't have one (yet).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Common Nautical Math Conversions

1 knot = 1 nautical mile/hour
1 knot = 1.853 kilometers/hour
1 knot = 0.5144 meters/second
1 knot = 30.86667 meters/minute
1 knot =1.68757 feet/sec
1 knot = 101.2686 foot/minute
1 meter/second = 1.94 knots

1 nautical mile (nm) = 6076.2 feet
1 nautical mile (nm) = 2025.4 yards
1 nautical mile (nm) = 1853 meters
1 nautical mile (nm) = 1.853 kilometers

1 meter = 3.2808 feet
1 meter = 1.0936 yards
1 yard = 0.9144 meters
1 foot = 0.3048 meters

*footnote: nm = international nautical mile (not UK)

EDIT: Bah...I was too tired when I made this. Thnx for noticing my typo. It's fixed now.

Another typo: if 1 nm = 1.853 km (which it does) then 1 knot should be 1.853 km/hr, not 1.852.
