Yes, saving while underwater will get you some damage when you reload the game.

It's still in there from SH3. I thought I was on the surface when I saved but it seems not. My aft torpedo room bulkhead got raped when I reloaded. The AA guns did too. Luckily, I was able to make it home from this first patrol without having to dive again.

Just a heads up. :know:

Good tip, yes!

Kind of a shame it carried over from SHIII. I had so many bad underwater save experiences in SHIII I'm allergic to even trying to save underwater nowadays!

I felt there shouldv'e been a movie sequence playing in the background of my crew stabbing me with any utensil they had at hand when I hit "Save" behind a confirmation window asking me if I was sure. :rotfl:

"...Do Not Save While Dived! Yes, saving while underwater will get you some damage when you reload the game..."

I cannot reproduce this bug. I have saved and restored many submerged in this game.
I did hundreds of them in SH3. It was my practice to save at the start of every attack.

ok here is my experiance last night,

Found a Huge task force, 3 carrierers, 2 bbs, 2 hvy crusiers.

To make a lnog story short i sank all 3 carriers, 1 bb (with a salvo of 4 rear Torps).and 1 hvy crusier, for a total of 120k of tonnage, after sinkin the hvy cruiser with one 1 torpedo, i saved the game. So then i time compressed and one of the escorts got me... so i reloaded, there was no ships around but on the navigation map there were:huh: (should have been 3 dds and a sinking hvy crusier and one survivng bb), and my XO was rattling off damage reports, flooding etc, so i died.... am goin to try to reload the save game again.. but this might be a deal breaker for me... might have to shelve this one until this game killing bugs are fixed... i mean 120k tons down the drain with a perfect excuted attack (i took screens)....

Personally, the fact that it is possible to sink all that without being killed or run out of torpedoes (especially the CA with one torp) I find far more of a game-killing bug. But to each his own.

It is a shame that these save-game bugs persisted from SH3, but I've followed the 'never save when dived' and 'never save when 30km from ships or shore' rules religiously in both games with no issues, and no regrets.

well 1, it took me a couple of tries to set up this attack let alone find a task force with 3 count them 3 carriers.Because it had a blanket of 6+DDs escorting Thus its goin to kill me to not be able to load it...

2. Since i figured The sh4 dev team was/should be aware of the pervious games fallings, i figured that they would have fixed the current problems before adding new ones.... guess i was wrong... man this suxs...

EDIT- The hvy ca was lucky hit... i got his mag... however i did sink one of the carriers with one torp(he was listing to the port side..a perfect shot. not knowning he was going to sink i fired again)... ...while he was goin down ... the second hit his flight deck...

It was also not advisable to save a game near ships. I can't remember the range but it would make them forget their waypoints or something.

SO if you save before attacking it is not advisable. The rest of the ships will just run aground eventually when they get away after a reload.

I save every night at midnight during a patrol. Just before I send a status report to base.
