I was thinking about a neat multiplayer idea for SH3 or whatever the next SH version may be. (probably not possible in SH3)
you have a multiplayer game which is open to as many as say... 100 players.
each player (except one) is assigned 1 of 5 officer positions on any one out of 20 u-boats in the game
On each U-boat there will be 5 players...
1.The capt. - gives orders - gathers target data and through like teamspeak or something presents that data to the weapons officer
2.the weapons officer plots solutions, and imputs the data to the TDC, this player also is responsible for managing the bow and stern torpedo crew and load out.
3. the chief engineer is responsable for setting the speed and depth degree of dive planes etc as ordered by the captain, also forms damage control teams and monitors oxygen, fuel and battery levels etc
4. watch officer - manages the watch crew, AA crew, deck gun crew and is responsible for sighting and engaging targets while surfaced.
5. Radio/Sonar Officer - mans the radio and the sonar stations both. responsible for detecting sound and radar contacts as well as text message like communications with BDU and other u-boats.
one player will act as BDU and manage all 20 U-boats, assigning patrol grids, providing intel to each of the 20 U-boats. sending and receiving real time messages to and from any of the 20 U-boats etc. this player will be stuck in map view and will be able to see the location of His U-boats any time they are surfaced. he will also be able to send and receive text messages "radio messages" to any of the u-boats.
