View Full Version : Photo recon missions

I managed to do pretty much all the missions except this one. (5 patrols until now, 120.000 tonnes sunk).

I had to take a photo thingie of Yokohama harbour. No problemo I thought. I spent horus sneaking in the harbour, reached the marked area, took the scope up, locked it on a vessel in the port (so I could get the photo button active), took the shot; => result: mission incomplete. Tried all combinations: daylight/night; different angles, different positions, nothing works.

Anyone did this right?

I also can't seem to be able to rescue pilots. Any thoughts here?

You need many photos to complete the photo recon mission. Or at least that is how it worked in the quick mission. I had to take about 7 photos of 7 different ships before it was complete.

Thanks man, the only problem is there was just one ship accessible/lockable from the observation position indicated by the mission.

Thanks anyway! Good hunting!

I did this just yesterday.....not sure why but I locked onto every ship in that harbor and took a picture. When I checked my objectives it said complete.

by the way....on your way out, check to see whats in the harbor just South of that one. I had a few targets of opportunity :D took out 2 parked Heavy Cruisers and the DD on station just outside the harbor.

No, no, I didn't miss those... :) I actually sunk 2 heavy cruisers a battleship and a destroyer (actually the destroyer just got into the path of a torpedo aimed at a battleship:lol: )

Just to have fun a launched a fish at a landed hydroplane. It literally blew it outa water! :rotfl:

BIG QUESTION - What photo button?

I had this mission once before and I sat in that harbor for over a day (had to wait for darkness to get through a shallow area and off to safety - wasn't Yokohama). But I never found a photo button. I ID'd every ship in harbor, locked them all, etc and never got the finish button. Where is this photo button that I never saw?:hmm:

Its where your periscope buttons are, on the right side, when you lock up a ship it will light up and you can take a picture

Same question, sorry....

What Photo button? The Red button with the S in it I thought indicated you had locked the target. The other buttons are for selecting torpedos, and the big red one is for fireing a torpedo. So, is it the Lock button, that becomes the Photo button? And if I press the L key to Lock the target does it also take a Photo??

Can you circle the button that I am supposed to press. I am thinking that it is a button like the Dock at Port button that magically appears when it's ready... So, I am obviously confused.

I am in a Jap harbour ready to take pictures when the sun comes up. I want to finish this mission tonight, and don't want to waste a bunch of time trying to find this Photo button.

Thanks...

That's the wrong toolbar, Snacko. Even though you're in the periscope view, you can tell your active toolbar at the bottom is the Navigation toolbar. Click on the tab directly to the right of the active tab, the one with the periscope icon, and it'll change the toolbar. In the scope toolbar, the far right icon looks like a camera. That's the one you need to click.

Well I have an entirely different problem.

I know where the button is but I can never get the damned thing to light up!

I've locked, (at least I think I did, how do you do it on manual TDC?) and ID'd all the targets but the button never lit up for me to use it.

So I said the hell with it!, I sunk 8 ships in the harbor and headed home.

I have only had to take one picture in the 3 port missions I've done.

Snuffy, I'm not 100% positive of the requirements, but I think you have to lock the target (you did) and you have to have a minimum quality level of the photo. On my Osaka photorecon, the weather was sooooo bad I couldn't even pick up the enemy ships until I was less than 600 yards off, and even then I couldn't take photos. After waiting a day for the weather to clear, I could take shots from 2500 yards out. It may also require you to target the biggest or most valuable ship in the harbor. At Osaka, I wound up taking a pic of a large modern tanker, as there were no capital ships in port.

I was WAY off on where this button was supposed to be. I thought it was 'on' the screen, not the toolbar at the bottom. I would have wasted a lot of time tonight. Thanks again!

....

Another Quesiton:
When you Lock the target, do you have to have a Green Triangle (Good Lock) for the Photo button to light up? Or will any lock work??

You only get the green triangle when your using auto targeting ... manual TDC operation does not display the triangles. (At least for me they haven't.)

Snacko

Yes, I am using auto targeting. I get several colors of triangles. Green means it's the best solution for fireing a torpedo.

So, I'm still wondering. Do I need to get a green triangle? Or will any lock (color triangle) work?

Well, I did it. Here is a screenshot of the Photo Button in the Toolbar.
I just had to lock on to a few boats and click the toolbbar photo icon.
It didn't matter what color the triangle was (how good the firing solution was).
After a few photos, the photo button was disabled from then on, and the mission was marked completed in the Objectives clipboard.
Also, the Star on the Map was grayed out. Mission Completed.http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/3388/sh4img2742007184336156wx7.jpg

How do you get those green icons in the task bar?
I'm assuming that the green icon indicates that the action has been activated.
Mine are always yellow.

There is a mod for this, look under Updated Mods for 1.3. In the mods forum.
Welcome to SUBSIM:up: by the way.

Edit: Captain Coxs' Excellent Paciic Map Mod will do this for you, it is here:http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=112750

If installing mods use JSGME, the Mod Enabler, on my sig. is a great guide on how to use. Get it here from this post, it is located at
the bottom:http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=476585&postcount=48

No problem. If you have not used JSGME check out that guide I referred to earlier, it takes a bit of getting used to, but is a must when installing mods :yep:

Post if you have any questions.

I've downloaded JSGME
The other files I can't get at the moment.
The filefront.com server page won't load.
I'll try it later.
It'll give me time to read the docs for JSGME

Thanks.

Not a nuisnance, just tried it and it works on this end. Not sure what the problem might be. Give it a few and try d\l again later. Both links are located on CCs' Pacific Map Mod I posted.

Are you playing the stock game, if so there is a bug giving you repeat missions. You can just ignore the mission and go sink lots of stuff and all will be forgiven, sort of like a free play. You may lose a little renown but not important.

I only had to take 2-3 photos in the Hokkaido photo mission and didn't need to get too close to do that (like the first try when I got blown out of the water by the shore batteries). Live and learn!

Something overlooked often is that the ships you are supposed to photograph might have already left the harbor because you took to long to get there, or they might be on the way still, or you encountered ships near the harbor, got greedy and sank them, and those were the very ships you were supposed to photo once they got to the harbor.

I've done all three with p-poor results, of course!

Well, the thread may have been started years ago, but some people are new to the game, and the forum, and find the thread by searching for solutions to their current problem.
