I cant help myself but when ever Im about to sink a ship I press F11 and scoot up and behold it. Man, these ships are beautiful. I just love looking at them. thumbsup for the 3d-artists that made them.

Yes indeed....

and the walking crew adds immersion....

after a hit on freighters no one walk around anymore, I supposed they become busy... :rotfl:

I've seen hardly any life boats, though. I guess aiming for ammo stores isn't condusive to survivors.

Farkin aimbots :P Always going for "headshots" :rotfl:

I just bagged a Shokaku! My first carrier. Man, it just feels so awesomely good to actually get one of those. Im in an S-18 with mark 10s but got an early headsup about the task force in the strait south of Sea of Celebes. So I had time to put myself in perfect position and there, about 800 yards sails a Shokaku past.

Im glad I had my whiz wheel so I could set up a shot so fast. I fired 3 eels and scored two hits. The first struck somewhere in the aft of the ship but the secon was a perfect below the keel detonation. Huge hole in the bottom of Shokaku-san. It actually keeled over and sank sideways in less than 2 minutes. I almost felt bad. Such a beauty.

Their destroyer screen never even found out where I hit them from (and Im using Harder Escorts mod)

This experience just washed away my last inklings of doubts about this game.

With faults and all, I love SH4!

As for life boats, I seem them fairly often. Not sure what makes them launch or not, but Ive seen both inflatable ones and wooden ones, complete with rowing sailors ^^

Saw my 1st life boat tonight, following my 1st real kill while on patrol ;) Took down a jap freighter in the east china sea, pretty sloppy since it was my 1st real attempt with manual targeting. Two fish, one missed, next hit. Surfaced and finished her off with deck gun.

A single life boat got away, with about 4 or 5 guys in it. They were rowing for all they were worth, and it was a sight to see!!!! I was running at flank speed trying to catch 'em and just barely closing the distance... I can only guess those japs attended Harvard or Yale on a sculling scholarship ;)

Was kinda bizarre that the lifeboat could almost outrun my sub. Another bug maybe?

Ships are great , though I think the rust is over done and the base colour of the metal doesn't look that great.

When I sank a troop transport recently, there were 8+ life boats in the water, each with 5 folks in it. :o
I was closing in to...uhm, take a closer look, when all of a sudden two Marvis planes showed up and I had to crash dive lol. Those guys were lucky! Yeah, I would have prolly shot one up just to see if it works, just like I can't stop myself and "check out" the parachutes *once* in any new flightsim that comes along. One guy is always going to have a bad day lol. ;)

Since I'm having huge problems with Torps (I don't shot less the 4 at anything) Sometimes I overdo it (when the dam torps work) and a ship basically blows to hell. And I don't see life boats. But if They sink slow then I see them. Kinda cool.

Actually, if you zoom in and watch right before your torpedo hits, or as it hits, you see the guys on the deck near your torpedo hit actually fall/die right there on the deck. They collapse and quickly disappear (a little longer on their staying there would be nice...a potential mod perhaps). That's always enjoyable.

Did the same thing just a few minutes ago. In 115 feet of water I snuck in best I could in my old rattling S-18 class. Put four fish in her, because I'm not skimping on a juicy target like that. Each one put 4 holes in her (you know, because these torps don't always do that), and she went down like a rock. First carrier kill. It was hard to resist going after the BBs, not to mention saving fish for another carrier, but the BBs likely have an armor belt that may make 4 fish not enough (not sure) and I knew if I tried to hit two carriers I'd either miss or one or more torps wouldn't work properly and I'd lose the kill. Better the garanteed kill than two possibles.

Destroyers didn't find me, but they came close. Could hear their pings real well.

I sank a liner and there were literally dozens of life boats in the water, it was seriously impressive.

I sunk a stationary Konga class battleship when the ammo bunker went up. The destruction sequence really was Hollywood, with the little sea plane falling into the ocean, the life boats dangling from their davits, and a radio tower being ejected hundreds of feet into the air with some serious hang time. Just amazing.

CTD not long after, of course, and the game seems to have the same finicky nature as SHIII about saves made while under water.

Game has potential! I'm going to let her cook a few more months though.

I've...*cough* ...tested the life rafts. Deck guns don't seem to bother them too much. I was disappointed because I can be so ruthless. :\

I'm trying to figure out if you can capture/rescue downed enemy pilots. I see them falling, but I can never find them in the water from the bridge/through binoculars. :\

i sank a yamoto without explosions and boats were everywhere. i tried picking up downed jap pilots but no luck. i was close enough for him to get sucked in to my prop too. i rescued a downed yank from probably 100 yards away. deck guns work on lifeboats but its real tough to hit especially with any number of waves. much easier to use the aa gun :|\\ <- lol

I am seriously impressed by the level of detail on these ships. But that carrier went down with every single plane glued to the deck apparantly :) And no lifeboats, perhaps because it sank so fast.
