Once again relying on the observation that THIS forum is not...over worked, I thought I'd post the titles of two Real World submarine books that I have recently finished. As a 'graduate' from the Surface Fleet, I knew 'the boats' tied up "over there", but not much else. They were/are a pretty *tight* crew, and while I have shared a number of 'suds' with them, not much else did I know. So, when SH3 found it's way to my computer, it was a lot of new stuff...in spite of all the Green Water Over the Bow that I'd seen. Eager to fill in some blanks I have 'pumped' all the Old Retired Squids I could find, and a few Active Duty ones...although THEIR 'modern' experiences seem no part of SH3 and SH4 World.

So...down to the biblioteca and "U Boat Ace", the TRUE story of a German Skipper, and likewise a TRUE story written by the skipper of HALIBUT, AUG 43 to DEC 44, "Take Her Deep!"

Both are great reads... if anybody wants to 'immerse'...not just Play the Game.

Hope you can find these...

Thanks for the post. I have not read either of those. Your recommendation for those who want to 'immerse', and not just PLAY, might seem a trifle condescending to those who post on threads like this one

Take a look at some of those recommendations and find out just how immersive most of us are.

No condesention intended, transmitted... or whatever. Sorry for anyone responding in that manner.....

In other 'game' settings I have known players who played for the fun of the game-play; others that sought the 'realness' of NEAR simulation. For example, I know F/A-18 players who turn their noses up at Falcon 4.0 due to the fact that F4 does not model radar masking; you can be locked 'through' a mountain.

Not knowing who might... or might NOT... be interested in testimonal accounts from Real Life.... did not prevent me from wishing to share good info. I'm just an Old Sailor; 'tact' is not one of my virtues, but I try....... Chiefs are like that.

Understood. Would you like to have my "sub-title" (under the name), as you're a real chief and I'm not?

Oddly enough, I'm re-reading Galantin"s "Take Her Deep" now. Great at the end, how they brought the crippled Halibut all the way back.
