When it saw the new screens of SHIV and I think I heard the video card gasp.

Tell your computer that there is a desperate war at sea to be won and to shape up or ship out. :p

I haven't looked at any of the preview screenshots or read any of the developer's dairy. I'm content to wait until the sim is close to release. Who needs months of pointless torture?

My computer heard about what it would be asked to do and then demaned more memory and a graphic card upgrade. It will get one when my finances improve as the taxman wasn't kind to me this year!

This how I motivated my computer to run whatever I want. Yes this is me:lol:

If your system handled SH3, it will handle SH4.

I dunno they said they increased the polys for the waves

I agree, nobody can expect the same performance in SHIV as in SH3 on their current systems.

Performance is a different issue. My posting stated 'handle'. Obviously, the higher your specs are the better your performance will be, but if your system handled SH3 comfortably, you'll be fine with SH4. The graphical enhancements are countered by the 'under the hood' changes.

Do you know this, or just assume?

The SH4 Devs are in effect producing the game that SH3 should have been. Some of the graphical and game play enhancements are already on record, as is Ubisoft's wish to protect sales by trying to keep the minimum specs for the game as close as possible to SH3.

The shader model had to increase to 2.0 for obvious reasons, but it's my opinion that you will be able to run the game on 512MB of RAM, with 1Gig or higher being recommended.

If there´s a big difference with the recommended PC requirements between SHIII and SHIV, I will be really disappointed. Judging by the screens and videos, the graphics arent so much better.

Run it? Probably. Play it? I dont know.

I believe the game will run just as well as SH3 does. No worries here for me.

It would be a good question for the Devs during the weekly Wednesday Q and A. "What are the projected minimum specs for SH4 at this time?" The answer will be:
"It's still too early to say".....they won't want to commit. If you remember, the RAM spec for SH3 was 256MB until about three weeks before the release date at which point it became 512MB.

:rotfl:I`d like to see someone playing SH3 with 256MB RAM. (at 1024x tc)

Now that's interesting. My computer says it has 512MB RAM, and I'm hoping someday to upgrade, but every time I re-install SHIII I get a systems spec list which says everything is alright but I only have 128MB RAM and SHIII won't run. It runs as well as can be expected with 512MB so I've never mentioned it here or worried about it. I just find it a little odd.

Well one clue I have from the recently-released material is that we'll be able to change resolution - and if we're able to change resolution, maybe along with it will come a few other scalable settings. That would let most people tweak it to their preference.
Inreases in RAM and processor demand will probably be minimal meanwhile.

For one, I know I would probably prefer to run it with shader 1.0, my card seems to choke up with most games under 2.0 at the moment.

Is it possible to change only the prosessor, or do i have to change the whole shabang..? (motherboard)...?

Depends what you're changing it to. Check your motherboard manual, it will say what processors are compatible with it.

I take no guff from my PC, it'll run SH IV and it'll like it!

Well at least until I can eloquently argue to the girfriend that yes I indeed need a new PC so she can shop online more effectively of course... ;)

Are you referring to the short text in the top right corner when you start the pc? If so that is gpu RAM. Do you have a 128MB graphics card?

As CCIP says, check what socket you have. (or google the motherboard name)

You can easily change cpu if its compatible, ie same socket and supports the technology. (Well, it requires a reinstall of Windows, so easily is not the right word. And dont forget cooling paste!)
