A great new interview with PT boats developers Akella has been posted by our friends over at flottenbasis.de The interview is in German so be sure to use Babelfish to translate (unless you have a spare Enigma machine in your quarters).

here are some of the highlights:

A German PT Boats forum is to be launched soon (English and Russian are already up)

There are Over 100 units in the game, the player can steer approximately 30 of them!

Players will gain reputation points allowing them to "purchase" addons/ upgrades for their vessel

Ports are only in some missions eg attack/defend the port. The Babelfish translation of the interview seemd a bit contradictory about whether missions would start and end in ports, perhaps one of our real German friends can clear that up.

Akella plan to make a map/data editor available for modding the game

In multiplayer games each player can man a different station aboard a boat!

Mission types available include
attack missions
convoy attack
normal patrols
special missions
secret ops
invasion/landing missions

Damage
Minor damage can be repaired at sea
The player must return to port for repair to major damage

Best of all... Akella see this at the first in a new line of naval simulations based upon the public reaction the developers may produce a Pacific add on and a new addon with full control of the larger ships

I am a little disappointed about the ability to control other units in the game. While this feature is appealing for some people, I think it detracts from what a sim is and turn the game most of a RTS oriented game. If you can control about 30 other units ,you would use a very arcadish phisics in all of then and also in third view  Imagine if in Silent Hunter 3 we could do that, we have no sim anymore, we have a RTS game.
Just my opinion.

I think I remember reading somewhere that you have sim style control for about 10 boats (pt & e boats etc) and "outside view" rts style control for the others destroyers etc

We may actually also have it in Silent Hunter 4's new "Escort Commander" multiplayer mode, although the details are still concealed in an Enigma code at present.
