GREAT GAME!!!

I have been looking toward it for quite some time now. And I have been dissapointed when they finally announced the release date. Q3 2007 (or was it Q4, can't remember). :o A full year. The game "looks" complete.

Can't wait for a demo. I'm already making plans for the "homo sapiens sapiens" evolution. :know:

I only really though that the first 4 phases were kinda boring and the 5th one more than makes up for it

So some of you guys are playing it yeah? Overall thoughts? I was excited like 1 or 2 years ago. I dunno why, but I completely lost interest in the game over that time. I'm not even considering it now.

I've got it. It's alright but I wouldn't say it's been overly stunning so far. I'm not that far in to it though: I've only reached the tribal stage so far.

The creature stage is great fun, as is the creature editor. I kind of suspect that we are going to have to buy the expansions to get everything we should have - apparently they had to chop a lot out in order to meet the shipping date. We shall see.

Was going to play it tonight. I might post some screenies of my evil empire if I can get around to it.

The game has 2 strengths, the editing capability (EVERYTHING!), and the Space Stage, which is just that much better than the previous ones (And I agree that the Creature Stage is in 2nd place)

Oh, and prepare for a War of Spodification!

I've played up to the Creature Level. I enjoy it. I think the game design is brilliant.

The Tide Pool stage was fun but, you advance pretty quickly through it. The body parts that you collect and use aren't as numerous as those you get within the Creature Level (given the complexity of the organisms)

I would like to hear more on why people find this game boring. I think the programming and the amount of work the developers put into it goes above and beyond most games seen in pc market today.

If you are looking for complex missions and typical game genre. This game might not be for you (and you might find it boring) but, if you look into how it works you might find it more entertaining. But, like I said its how you look at the game and what you want from the game.

The game is primarily developed to be an open sandbox to test what works and doesn't work in any given environment. It allows a user to design and build an organsim to overcome the challenges and obstacles they face while running around the various premade worlds.

The entertainment value of the game doesn't go beyond that. The worlds that you can explore are large but, nothing that hasn't been seen already in game. The rendering looks alot like the WoW environment (Cartoon/Fantasy) with very few objects to inteact with (I think this will change later in the Civilization and Tribal Levels when you desing and use tools) The missions are very basic and simple: Hunt 5 of these creatures. Socially Impress 7 of these Creatures. Collect Parts to Evolve. Thats it. Nothing more. I would agree this seems boring at first. But, when you look at the design engine and actually start experimenting with the different creatures you can build its quite fun.

The first problem I came across when designing my first creature (on creature level) was my diet. This was determined based on what I ate mostly during the tide pool level. I ate both other oganisms and plants so when I advanced to the Creature Level I could only collect and use parts related to omnivores (mostly bird type creature parts consiting of beaks and claws) If you ate primarily plants you would be limited to herbivore body parts and if mostly meat you would be limited to carnivor body parts.

The second problem I came across in my design was I was too short and too slow.

(To be continued..)

Other Gameplay Features:
There are Giant creatures (called epic creatures) that stomp or fly around hurassing parts of the planet. You can try to team up with your alleys to kill these creatures for fame. I haven't killed one so I don't know what kind of rewards you get.

Environment Changes: Rain, Transitions from Day to Night, Meteor Showers (send creatures everywhere into a panic), Alien Spacecraft fly over and abduct creatures. (you later evolve to contol these craft)

I only find the Tribal and Civilization stages boring, they're basically your dumbed-down RTS game with the sole objective of either becoming allies or destroying all other tribes/cities

Oh, I've killed an epic creature alone in the Tribal stage, just need to swarm it with Axe-equipped dudes (There's not much point I think, might be some consequences I haven't notices)

Oh, BTW, the environment isn't "large", it's enormous, wait 'till you get to space

The thing I'm looking forward to is creating a bunch of 7 creatures for the celluar stage. All based on the 7 types of GUILT you find in Trauma Center.

Well that and getting the game in a couple of hours.

*Edit* Wow. Spore's proving to be harder to put away than I'd like with work tomorrow. Ah well, I'm at the tribal stage now with my 4 legged ape looking creatures. Great game so far, bit kiddy but still a great game.

Indeed, its fun as heck, got one creature up to the space stage but it kinda overwhelmed me so I created a herbivore, at civ stage atm.

Btw is it just me or are some parts invisible in the creator? For example the herbivore cell mouth.

Prob not 'invisible' just covered up by other body parts.

Sporpedia is the easiest way to see others creations all you need is a user name.

Tag the users as friends, set the download content to friends only and you can have fun muncing on... errr... making friends with the other players critters.

By the way. Ive played both Herbavore, and Carnivore and found Carnivore to be much easier. Espically when you come up a bunch of other tribes who you cant befriend no matter what.

I'm trying a complete Omnivore/Neutral/Middle thingy game right now, on one hand it's easier because you can both eat and befriend your neighbours, but it's harder to stay in the middle all the time...

Woah, anyone else met any creation that they made in the SPORE Creature Creator? I happened to stumble upon my first creature ever, I called it "Kramer", and this one was HUGE!:o

Wow William's creation looks like my Apeish.
I've come up with some crazy stuff. I especially like my Flying Pope Mobile. Converted alot of non believers with it when I took over the planet.

Also one of my allies in space stage apparently has a religion based around "The Force" or some variation of.

what of the DRM software embedded within SPORE?
reminds me of silent hunter 3....

With SH3, you only had to get past the StarForce hurdle [always related to the type of CD-ROM mfg. you had] to install it and the game works even under Vista, today. Install/Reinstall all you want it ... works. My Vista rig with SH3 - Zero problems - play it off and on - I now prefer SH4 - Wolves of the Pacific.

But now, it seems like our EA buddies let you have three [3] installs .... and that is it! Buy the game again if you want a fourth install/reinstall.

Continuing my attitude to NEVER, EVER buy another EA game, EVER again.

Give Page 2 for a "look-see" - for the detailed info that YOU may want.

Best paragraph is the last one:

"So thanks, EA. Thanks for trying to put a stake in PC games—something I've loved for years and wrote about for over a decade. Thanks for nothing. "

Interesting article.

I found a related information which is probably not new to most of you - but it was to me - that 2k has removed DRM from Bioshock altogether:

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2008/06/20/bioshock-drm-removed/1

So it turns out I was right with my feeling that all I'd have to do was to wait a year or two until the publisher has written off the game.

And I prefer to buy games a bit later anyway, it's cheaper, I have better hardware, and I get patches and mods.

I predict by next year publishers will try to back out of this, gamers fury is on the rise already and never underestimate that!
