View Full Version : Subsim Christmas gift for the DEVS: Underway!

TDK1044

Hi Guys,

The DEVS work in Bucharest, Romania. How about the SUBSIM SH4 Forum sending them a case of SUBSIM SH4 Pacific Theatre mugs as a thank you for their efforts?

Neal could arrange a way for us to make donations to the gift fund, and this would be a nice Holiday Season gift for the DEVS.

What do you Guys think?

Wouldn't the devs already be up to their ears in SH4 swag?

Yes, but not SUBSIM swag. That's the good stuff!

Actually, I think this is a really good idea. Would be a nice way of showing we actually really value and encourage what they're doing. No doubt it would be a surprise for them to receive something other than a raft of 'helpful suggestions'!

Never underestimate the value of showing appreciation, even in a simple way.....

Neal can get us details of the size of the DEV team and the cost of customizing that number of mugs with the relevant SUBSIM graphics. I'll happily pay for 5 mugs.

Maybe a bottle of rotgut to get them in the mood, and a recording of the Das Boot soundtrack!

No alchahol or drugs for the devs! we need them sober...

Otherwise we will be flying our mutant Gatos with six nipples and a trunk over pearl harbour and all the ships will look like Giant Racoons and they will attack you with heat seeking pork pies... and..... and....

Mugs are ready to go
http://www.subsim.com/almanac/sh4mug_Front.jpghttp://www.subsim.com/almanac/sh4mug_Back.jpg

Total cost is $300 for 25 mugs and shipping to Romania.
TDK and I are pitching in $30 each, so that leaves $240.

Preferably, it would be nice to get a lot of $5~20 donations (as opposed to $80 donations by three guys) so we can have as many guys in the crew as possible. Once we get to $240 (after Paypal fees), no additional donations for this will be accepted. None of the proceeds goes to Subsim, this is strictly a cost transaction.

Click here to join us in wishing the SH4 Dev Team a Merry Subsim Christmas! (http://www.subsim.com/1__sh4devmugs.html)

After you make you donation, please return here and post the amount. Thanks.

cheers
Neal

How much of each cup will be given to the developers, and how much will be given to the publishers? What's the cut?
Will it be rushed? If so, are you planning to patch to fix holes?
Will there be an SDK (Soft-drink Development Tool-Kit)?
Will they be compatible with my hard-desk?
If I drop one over my desk, will there be a crash to desktop?:p

Heh, wish I could contribute, but I don't have a credit card of Pay-Pal account or anything. Or for that matter money:-?.

I can answer some of those questions, but TDK better answer the hard ones, he's the Producer.

If I drop one over my desk, will there be a crash to desktop?
These are "Combat mugs", specially designed for Pacific seas.

Will it be rushed? If so, are you planning to patch to fix holes?
Everything we do is rushed. We live in perpetual crunchtime. We do not anticipate any holes, though. Except the big one on the top and the one in the handle, and those are there by design. :ping:

The mugs are protected by anti pour software which protects them from being 'chipped'. Sadly, the ani pour software reduces the speed at which liquid can be poured into the mug and may on rare ocassions produce handle malfunctions.:D

You did use Paypal, they charge your credit card $10. PP makes its money with transaction fees. It's normal.

Please do! A small portion goes to keeping Subsim's nuclear reactor fueled and running. These forums use a lot of power!

Just stick Alexander Litvinenko in ye old fission pile. :p

All joking aside, come the new year I'll prolly drop some coin as a donation. I enjoy Subsim, and have learned a lot here plus feel as if y'all have included me as part of the family, so I'd like to do my bit to help defray the costs and keep things running.

You did use Paypal, they charge your credit card $10. PP makes its money with transaction fees. It's normal.
Waidaminit!!! :stare:

I used my credit card + Paypal. Does this mean that apart from the USD15 I donated, I'll also be charged another USD10? :shifty:

No, there is no additional charge. You donated $15, the transaction fee for that amount is $0.89, so TDK/Neal get $14.11.

Not to worry, stabiz. Contributions had to happen on a first come first served basis, but the DEVS will know that this gesture is from the SUBSIM Forum. Neal and I had to get this show on the road in order to achieve getting the mugs to Romania before Christmas.

It's always great to see the community and the dev team appreciate each other. It's pretty rare. Let's just hope Ubisoft will give the Romanian dev team ample time and resources to make SH4 match the level attained by SH3--or surpass it.

As of 12/27, the DEVS had not received them. The mugs left the US during the last week of November with plenty of time to get there, but the Romanian postal service seems to be a little slow at delivering the item.

I really do like the mugs. Do they come in Black?

Any update on the delivery?

The mugs arrived a few days ago. They got hung up in the Romanian Christmas mail. A few were broken and are being replaced free of charge.

The DEVS really liked them, and they wanted Neal and I to thank this Forum for the kind gesture. I think they'll be saying thanks and taking a group photo with the mugs once the replacement mugs have arrived.

A really good job well done by our Forum members. And if you were one of those who found out about it too late, all members are part of the gesture. We just had to get them paid for and shipped ASAP....and we still missed the Christmas deadline.

Such is life!

Terry
