Americans Big Band music In the 40ts.

Not fond of jazz at all, though a bit of swing or big band is nice enough. We better start digging up some ol' Glenn Miller for our sub crews in the Pacific. Moonlight Serenade, Penn 6-500, Chatanooga Choo Choo - my U-48 crew don't mind a bit of that. :cool:

Though I prefer the German music of the 30s and some traditional Irish.

I have a huge collection of period Jazz, swing and Big band from the US, France, Belgium, Britain and even Germany (the Infamous Charlie and His orchestra.)

A Bit of Tommy Dorsey, followed by Woody Herman and then some Django with Spike Jones to finish should fill the bill nicely on those long patrols.

A song popular on both 'sides' was "Lile Marlene". I have the English version done by Vera Lynn and the German version sung by Marlena Ditreich on page 3 of my Jukebox.

What would be great would be the music of Ray Anthony , since he played for the sub crews on Midway and then move on later to Pearl. I was in the boats at that time and enjoyed him very much. His sound was along the lines of Glenn Miller so I think everone would enjoy it. Also on patrol we enjoyed Diana Shore records.

My father was on Tin Cans with the carriers, when Pearl was attacked. Then went to sub duty. I think he was out of Brisbane or possiably Fremantle, or both. I'm not sure anymore as he passed away in 1984 and I don't have any of his service records. I do know he was on 3 different subs, but which ones?? alass I don't know:cry:

Where you bassed out of Pearl or ???? Which boat(s) were you on?? What was it really like to be a submariner at that time?? My father wouldn't talk much about his patrols and It's been so long now I have forgotten much of what he did say:cry:
