No sir, this is real. While still in the early stages, Ubi France has confirmed to Subsim that the dev team has been assembled and are actually assigned to SH4 work.

I can't help but notice that the picture on the Subsim front page for SHIV is from the cover of The Destroyer Killer by Edwin P. Hoyt. Very cool book - it's about the story of Commander Samuel Dealey and the Gato class US sub Harder. The picture on the cover is not entirely accurate, but from the sinkings described in the book, the exploding destroyer is probably the Tanikaze. Dealey was known as the Destroyer Killer because he sank so many enemy escort vessels - after the war it appears he sank four destroyers, two frigates, one or two armed trawlers, damaged another armed trawler, may have sunk two other unidentified escorts, and sank between 10-20 merchant ships. That's a record I hope to beat when SHIV is released. :rotfl:

This all hinges on one important factor; Starforce!!

If they are using SF there is no SH4 to me and shall I say many others.

I don't want to go through that again and don't want to rant here as I would gladly buy SH4 but so that I can torpedo the Japs not be screwed by the Russians.

Ergo, what heareth thou on this subject of evil

Calm Down Wulfmann!

And Please No Further SF-Whining Here!
It Will not do Anything But Bad.

No need to be condescending, I am quite calm.

But the inclusion of SF is the most important factor in considering a purchase of this version. Damaging intrusive software has no place in legally purchased products and this should be driven home to UBI at every opportunity.

Call it whining, I don’t care. Sell your shares of SF and leave the power of the dark side

What will do everything that is bad is having Starforce in SH4 and I believe we can and should do everything possible to prevent that.

When ever we post on SH4 it should always include “Well, as long as it does not include Starforce, I will buy it”

Once UBI has figured out this does them more harm than good (it certainly does us more harm as it does not prevent pirating but threatens the legal buyer) we can praise them for putting the welfare of their loyal legal customers first.

The Starforce issue is being discussed in the General topics forum:

It appears Ubisoft is dropping SF for its latest releases.
Presumably they will not use it for SHIV as well.

Damnit, I saw this thread and thought it was new, and it's from way back:(.
I wondered why it hadn't been posted on the main page yet:D.

Just had a look at play.com and seen SH4 as a provisional release date of 06th Oct 2006

Agrippa

That release date will almost certainly be pushed back. That always happens. Particularly, it seems, with games I'm really looking forward to.

The danger is that, while the developers may need more time to actually finish the game, the distributer will release it in November or December to be in time for christmas. This seems to happen quite often, and almost always is a bad idea, ending up in a very buggy release that has to be patched up to the gills, with modders just trying to fix problems between patches rather than making actual enhancements to the game.

Well if one think of it, it might not be unrealistic, because its not a new engine.
Its updates, new 3D models and missions. Should be possible ;)
