I won't be getting it for $125.00.... :o

Salut Stratege :)

T-72s Balkan on fire is a bit too "arcad-ish" for me . It doesn 't really "simulate" today 's battlefields , far off I may say .

$125.00 may seems a lot of money but what you get is what is used in Tank schools by many Nations .
And you get free updates for a whole year (it might be more) .

Btw , SB Pro PE does NOT use StarForce .

That sim separates the Tankers from the boys

Looks a lot like Operation Flash Point to me ( in less good).. I guess maybe the online code is better than OFP...

Steve , SB Pro PE is a great simulator .

Sure , Tanks are not as fun as Subs as you have to work in "Rolling Wolfpacks" to archive victory .
But is is really rewarding to take out Enemy Armor with flanking shots , like we do in SHIII .

The action is faster and a split second decision can decide if you 're gonna kill an enemy unit or die .

Even if do not really try to make you buy that sim , I just want you to know that playing this stuff online with Teamspeak Comms is a woot !

The most enjoyable thing is surely to play online ~as we do~ and to kick ass !
Up to 8 players can log in the same game ~4 on each side or Co-op against the AI~ and bash at each other .

All crewable units ~many different Tanks and personal carriers~ are simulated with accuracy . Infantry with RPGs and ATGMs will help you to archive your goals .

It has to be said that this software is NOT a game and should be taken as it is : a tool to train real Tankers .

I decided to post this "advert" here because I know some of us are real "hardcore sim players" and SB Pro PE can actually fullfill your expectations .

Have you ever imagined how Russia could actually attack the West through Fulda Gap , as an exemple ?! :o
Or North-Korea can attack Seoul with all guns blazing ?

What about replaying The battles in Irak ?! :yep:

To be perfectly honest , your imagination will be the limit . ;)

Cthugha , OFP is not a Tank Sim , even if it is a GREAT thing ~I love it too .
I may say that all the add-ons are VERY expensive , which is not the case with Steel Beasts .

SB Pro PE cannot be compared with OFP simply because it is a real military simulator . We 're not joking here ! :|\

It was acually a big "risk" to release a public version of Steel Beasts as we 're not big in the gamer market and releasing accurate datas about real Armor vehicules is somehow not appreciated by many MODs (Minister of Defense) .

Btw , I have to say that our community is sooooo much helpfull to get you going that you 'll be up in running in no time .

Join up and you 'll NOT be disapointed . I promise you ... :yep:

I'm also interested of this but I think I'll wait for Steel Beasts 2. You can see differences of those three different versions in here http://www.esimgames.com/comparison.htm. And that is probably going to be a lot more cheaper than SB Pro PE. I used to play Steel Beasts demo and I liked it a lot, except the graphics.

Steve , SB Pro PE is a great simulator.
I'm not knocking it, or tanks. I happen to like ships and planes, and that's about it.

I only responded as I did because the question was asked in the thread title.

If this was 16 people or more (8v8), I'd probably spend the $125.00. The video is great, no doubt about that. I too will wait for Steel Beasts II. Will there be British tanks too (Challenger II)? I do like the Leopard II and Challenger II. I've always like German armour going to WWII.

Enjoyed the clip, Fred, and I like my tanks sims too, But I'm more of a Tiger or Panther man myself.
Must be something about hunting against superior numbers!

I'm kind of surprised at some of the apathy I've seen here. Steel Beasts was absolutely unique, it was - still is until PE - the greatest, most mature, and focused sim I've ever played. Absolutely the right level of complexity and gameplay: Real where it needs to be, easy where it needs to be.

If you're a fan of sims generally, it's definitely worth a look, because it will be bloody good, you can count on it.

I have been following SB Pro PE with much interest, but the latest two videos have left me unimpressed. The smoke and fire effects on disabled vehicles looks terribly basic and amateuristic. Then there are the Leo's popping their turrets one right after another, making it look an arcade action game. The external view on the T-80 in motion shows that there's absolutely no suspension movement whatsoever--the tank moves across the terrain like a stiff static model. T-72 Balkans on Fire even models this basic feature. Apparently it's still impossible to flip a tank in SB Pro PE, just as it was in SB1. Makes me wonder what else eSim Games has left out.

I could live without certain features in a budget title. However at $125.00 US, I expect basic features to me moddled correctly within a tank sim billed as a military tank training tool.

Luckily I watched these two latest videos just before pre-ordering. I'll now wait and see what the reviews have to say about the retail release. Unfortunately, we don't have enough good tank sims.

Mast , unless the British decide to use Steel Beasts and to give us the necessary datas about the Chally II , we simply cannot "guess" the Tank .

SB is foremost a training tool for Army personal and they need the thing to be as accurate as possible .

So far , UK has not decided to use SB Pro .

We have a good chance to get the Leclerc soon as the French decided to give a try to the software and they seem rather pleased with what they see .

Swordfish , when your US "Axeman" Company ~10 Abrams and 4 Bradleys~ suddently face 3 heavily Armored Russian Companies with theirs Hinds as Air support , you DO feel outnumbered !! :o

Regarding SB2 , it is not going to be released before mid 2007 at the earliest . As an exemple , we had to delay SB Pro Personal Edition by a whole year because of Army contracts .

When Australia asked us to make a version for them , they came with big bucks and we simply couldn 't ask them to wait .

As JamesT73J said , Steel Beasts is the only real tank simulator on the actual market . All the other Tank "Games" are only what they are : Games .

U-49 , the Militaries are NOT interested in graphics like SHIII , Doom or HL2 .

Nevertheless , we are going to implement more "eye candy" things with the add-ons (Free) on Pro PE but later on SB2 will be a full DirectX 9/10 game with all the bells .

I say again , SB Pro PE is a military tool offered to the general public , and not a game even if it is great fun to play with .

T-72 Balkans on fire has a very basic ballistic model ~not real at all~ and the armor values are in no way accurate . Their T-72 is a mix bag of different russian models (?) to start with ...

I am not bashing , but simply try to make the difference between a game and a simulator .

Cheers .

Oh well, guess they need to turn that corner then. :)
That will be cool to see how well the Leclerc will do. Still my fav tank is the Leopard 2A6 with the Challenger II a close second. For WWII, it's the Panther G late model.

P.S.- wwiionline is a great game. I recently used the Tiger against the allies and it is a beast in that game. :D

That probably will be a long wait ;) SBP-PE already saw two major and some smaller delays, it was hoped to be released two years ago, one year ago, last christmas. Work on SB2 even has not begun. Their major income is from their military customers, currently all ressources are spend for getting the PE version out, when that is done they will need to relocate their ressources, they cannot afford to concentrate on SB2 exclusively. New demands by that customer have caused these delays for the main. Therefor I would be surprised if SB2 gets released before end of 2007, my guts feeling tells me not before sometime during 2008.

are you beta-tester for SBP, or part of the developement team? You sound like one of these. If so, good to have you onboard here.

Looks like the simulator has come a long way from the ones I sat in at Knox in the 80's!..The grass is green now. :P
But I guess I'll put out the $125 for it,if and when its released.
The only thing I still don't like about it..you see the tracers coming at you,in the real world you don't see them head on,the tracers are in the BACK of the shell.
But its not to bad for action.

Damn as a new moderator I really need to learn the difference between the quote- and the edit-button, and ASAP - third time I wanted to quote someone - and changed his own posting instead, having to recreate it...

Good to know, for probably there will be questions indeed. Ssnake is informed that I am writing an offical review of it. Maybe I will come back to you. I have rejected simHQ's offer to publish it there. Instead it will be published at tanksim.com.

But such questions I will email you personally in the coming four weeks or so.

The British actually have been taking a look at SB, one of the lads on ARRSE mentioned it. I don't think it's going to go anywhere though, certainly the lads at Lulworth/Bovington didn't seem to know much about it.

SB1 re-proved the old saw about gameplay/sound being more important than graphics.

That said, E-Sim are under no delusions about the casual gamer forking out US$125 for a game, regardless of how accurate it is, unless it appeals to the casual gamer in the shallow terms that casual gamers understand (Eye candy, play balance, ease of play). That's why Pro PE is so called, and SB2 is going to be more 'mass market' PE is marketed towards real tankers, such as myself, or those who are really, really, seriously, totally, into tanks. It makes no concessions to play balance, calling in artillery is now a lot more complex, and the eye candy is to the level of 'what's acceptable for the purposes'
