Now its time for another update!

Iv started a thread on the sucject, so you can voice your questions.

Dont worry...I talk with this guy on a regular basis as we are also working on a project to import his 2 other subs into SH3 for the International Boatshow 2006 here in Denmark :D

Hello McBeck

It was fantastic to see some new pics of what is going on in Peter Madson's shop.

It looks like he is using a little different ring bracing structure to support the main pressure hull in the UC3 then he used in Kraka and what we see in the Euronaut. The Euronaut used rolled I-beams which is a very practical way to get a strong ring quickly with allot less welding. I don't like welding around the corner anyway. I was thinking of doing a design on my sub much like what I see Peter is doing on the UC3 but I liked the idea of not having to cut up large panels of steel for those flat vertical sections of the rings then trying to use up the scraps else were.

I think the I-beam design is stronger but I was concerned about rust and condensation between the welds holding the I-beam type ring onto the outer hull? As you know if you don't design a sub to be able to reasonably deal with rust in saltwater you'll pay for it later. I see Kraka is already needing some rust work. Do you know what kind of primer and then paint Peter is using on the outside of Kraka? Also I would love to know what kind of steel he is using on the rings and the outer hull as well as the thicknesses if you could ask him?

More later

Cheers

McBeck is on secret assignment right now, he will return in Jan. Just wanted to let you know so you don't think he is ignoring you.

Also, shameless plug: McBeck wrote an interesting story about Peter's Kraka sub in the Almanac, check here for more details. (http://207.44.214.111/subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=100080) :yep:

I see they made me a Bilge Rat:rock: That's alright as long as I find the hidden rum stash forgotten by the last crew:arrgh!:

I have noticed that Freya looks to have the same T Beam type support rings as the UC-3. I have only seen one pic of Freya's interior that shows the rings. It would be nice to see some better interior pics. I also noticed that Kraka has solid bar steel support rings so in that design you would have the small voids I was talking about between the welds holding the rings onto the outer pressure hull. I would be interesting to hear Peter's thoughts on this as well as any one elses. I suspect it's more or less sealed and shouldn't be a problem but it would be good to know real life data. If one were to TIG weld it they would have a better chance of them being totally sealed but it's allot easier if you can MIG weld them.

I trust you'll survive your secret assignment McBeck
