The Liberal Prime Minister of Canada, Paul Martin, has just been cleared of the charges related to the sponsorship scandal - non-Canadian members may not have heard of this but in Canada it was big news. Here is a link:

Apparently, Stephen Harper (Conservative) still thinks he can get to be Prime Minister because of the implications of general Liberal party involvement; only time will tell I guess. The NDP doesn't know which option it will take yet. The Bloq appears not to have changed its Liberal-condemning stance.

Gomery spared Martin on the grounds that he had not known what was going on.

"Mr. Martin ... is entitled, like other ministers in the Quebec caucus, to be exonerated from any blame for carelessness or misconduct," Gomery concluded.

Incompetance on the other hand...

That is true, Gomery appears to believe that he should have had a better knowledge of what was going on and should have put a stop to it.

In states they call it "plausible deniability".

:) Once again here in Canada we are being bombarded by politics and the news media. Bottom line, we still aren't tackling the real problems this country is facing.......and the rules, regulations, laws and bylaws are geting crazy here.

And now Chretien is appareltly going to cahallenge the report's findings in court, because it holds him ultimately responsible, as he created the very environemnt in which such corruption would flourish, even though the report clears him of actual involvement in the money laundering. Haha, that's what you get for that stupid golf ball stunt, Mssr. Cretin .
