The things in this game that should be dangerous to a sub, are not. And those that should not be too dangerous can be.

Planes? No danger at all. Just go to flank speed and engage them. Assuming you have bought AA guns. Submerge and you're crabmeat.
If I choose default action to engage aircraft, why does not someone man the guns? I have to put them there, loseing valuable seconds. Why does the Sunderland not drop its charges, till its too late for it? Stay on the surface and they never drop em.

Merchant guns? Not dangerous enough. Any Uboat skipper would not risk getting close enough to get himself. In this game long John Silver :arrgh!: mans most of the merchants, one eye, cant judge distance. The one exception I've found is the troopship, they are good! reduced my boat to 30% at 2.5KM in just a few shots, lost 4 good men.

One cool thing I thought of whilst pondering over the European map in 1940 was when will the Wehrmacht reach the French coast? Would be nice to have a dynamic map that showed the German frontline expanding and contracting as the war proceeded.

The FAT torpedo? of the two patterns that could have been used, we get the useless ladder. I want a FAT that loops, that stands a chance of getting an escort.

Why do my crew stop to tell me every bloody ship they see, why not just ignore the German ships?

Just a few thoughts

Many of the things you bring up are addressed in mods. yes, I know it would be better if they weren't necessary, but they are out there. From what I've heard, with RuB, you take planes on routinely and you'll end up a hulk at the bottom of the ocean before long.

I'm wondering if you're patched to 1.4b. After the patch, it will ask you what you want your 'default action' to be, whether to dive, engage or do nothing..this would partially automate your process.

Mods also address the merchant guns, especially deadly the later the war goes.

One of the MODs (SHC 1.43 I believe? Or is it something else?) does update the map as you ask, showing the progress of the war.

Can't speak to the FAT. I dont' think that that can be modded.

As to why the crew reports every ship, it was never that granular to different reactions for enemy, friendly or neutral vessels. Why? I don't know. Think of it as I do, the crew will likely notify you of a ship before knowing whose it is. Then you can be told it's German and go back to the sleep they woke you from :)

Keep on thinking, it's healthy.
