Ok, I have finalized the sleeping quarters for the meet. I made a $200 deposit with the Camp View Motor Court for the rental of 4 cabins. These are the people who have registered and are set up with sleeping quarters. You should work out who is staying with whom now or when you arrive.

Bill Nichols, Justine
August, Rose
Jason Lobo
Daryl Carpenter
Chad McRae
Michael Pohl
Ivank
Sledgehammer
Albert George
Bas Langenhof
Sailor Steve

I assume August and Rose will be staying in their home, but they are welcome to stay at the lodge if they choose. Camp View does have extra cabins available if necessary.

Here is the breakdown of cabin/slots/cost:

Cabin #7: largest cabin, has a bedroom with a queen bed, reserved for Bill and Justine. Also has a room with two beds for two other members. This cabin will serve as the meeting room. There is a picnic table and bbq grills for outdoor social activities. $125 a night, split 3 ways is $42 each. There is a sofa that can make this a 4 person cabin, be SURE to cover it with sheets/sleeping bag to ensure it is well cared for.

Cabin 6: two beds, $85 a night.

Cabin 20: two beds, and a pullout sofa, $100 a night.

Cabin 11: two beds, room for a sleeping bag/air matress if anyone wants to bring one. $85 a night.

The stay is for Thursday Sept 23, Friday 24 and Sat 25.

Please do NOT smoke in the cabins, and take care of the property. We want to be respectful (I know you already are).

Jason, you can arrive a day early if you choose, they have vacancies.

Any questions?

thanks
Neal

Thirteen peeps. Supposedly an unlucky number, but since we'll be killing McBee the first day we should be okay. :D

Money is good, time is good, I'm actually starting to get excited! :sunny:

Maybe we'll stay down there Thursday night. I'll give the lodge a call.

Oh and Al probably won't need accommodations as he lives nearby.

And I don't even remember what the reason was. But still, we need to do something for fun. It's either put down the dog or go out for ice cream, and I hear it can be getting cold that time of year.

Justine and I are planning to stay in Boston. We don't like roughing it!

Bad news here. I have to travel to Huntsville, Alabama for work the latter half of next week, so looks like Justine and I won't be able to make this year's Subsim meet.

Believe me, I'd much rather be in New England than in Alabama (not that there's anything wrong with Alabama, of course).

I'm seriously starting to get a little depressed. No Bill, no Steve, no Neal, no Chad...I hope no one else drops out at the last minute. Maybe I'll feel better when the meet actually happens, but I have this feeling we'll have to get together sometime next year for a "Couldn't Attend the 2010 Subsim Meet Subsim Meet."

And I was so looking forward to hearing your submarine stories, Bill! And getting a guided tour of the Joseph P Kennedy Jr. by Steve. And for Neal to do his...Neal stuff! :damn:

Yeah I figured this would happen once Neal bowed out and it's put a pretty big damper on my motivation to attend as well.

I figure the best thing to do now is to simply carry on with the meet. I keep reminding myself that I'm going meet a bunch of people who are fascinated in the same thing I am, and spend some time reveling in that fascination. You know, I've been frustrated over the years by my inability to meet real life people (not just internet personalities) that share the same interest in naval history as me, the type of people who aren't freaked out when I bring an "anatomy of the ship" book into the break room. I've been to the Submarine Force Museum and Battleship Cove before, but each time I've basically been chauffeured there by someone "doing it out of the kindness of their heart" (to put it nicely). I've wanted to do a "grand tour" of the New England naval museums for years, and we're finally getting to do it.

I have a vacation coming up the first week of December. Maybe if the weather isn't too bad, we could hold a one-day meet in New London? :hmmm:

And if not for the reason I gave I'd still be there. I really do want to meet you guys. This is depressing.

One more annoying question that needs to be resolved...

Camp View Motor Court's website gives their address as 334 Rope Ferry Road, but Google say it's at 4 Park Drive.

This maps shows what I'm talking about:

http://i51.tinypic.com/2uzfqtw.jpg

The red mark gives Google's location, while the purple mark gives the website's location. The site says they're within "walking distance of downtown Niantic," which certainly isn't the case if they're at Park Drive. Could Google have gotten something...wrong? :o

I'm in New Haven, I could do a little recon if my mom is okay with me taking her car to Waterford.

Hi,
we will drive to the Purple location. This is what my other Navi says and what i see from Google Street view.
It seems to be located directly at the 156 as they say on their website. You can even see the sign by the road ... even i should be unable to miss it :88)

This should be it ... i think?
