It is and will always be. For me it seems easier to have everything in one place rather then search for it. As example in this thread I have seen several links to SH5 news links. I just put all of them together.

Hey Laufen, did you noticed that your pages title-tag says "SH6 REVIEW"? :know:

i've given this some thought and even though i feel its not a good idea to sticky any thread that by design only redirects you to another site, Laufen zum Ziel is a trusted member here and his site is well done and a great resource for info on sh5.

i will make an exception in this case and think it is worthy of a sticky

Hmmm... from the looks of this preview we might just get to play surface ships after all. And that's good. But the description of the campaign side of things has me puzzled and perhaps a bit worried. I pray we don't get saddled with a pseudo dynamic campaign consisting of canned missions with hard wired objectives. If I get assigned to a grid and I know damned well that there's no substantial target activity in said grid I want to be able to go to another grid at my discretion without a penalty of minus 5 points to my "captain's mana" or whatever.

QUOTE:

"Often, the escorts do not need to be sunk to successfully complete the mission. It is up to you whether you want to only sink the target, or pick off some other ships as well."

UNQUOTE

So sinking escorts will be a requirement in 'some' missions?

All these early previews are nice and all but the vaguely described features are getting annoying. Maybe we'll have to wait till an actual simmer does a preview instead of the Fallout3 fans.

Either way this whole "now with RPG elements!" thing gives me pause.

Either way this whole "now with RPG elements!" thing gives me pause.

Me too, as I don't see how "levelling up" could magically make turbochargers appear on my engines or make my torpedoes load faster (I never did like that feature in SH4...too unrealistic).

We shall see.

EDIT: Thinking about it more, they're going about it the wrong way. Instead of giving the crew superpowers that allow your engines to achieve a higher top speed than they historically could have, or having torpedoes load faster than they should or travel faster than possible, they should implement a breakdown/sabotage model. That way, as your crew gains experience and gets better at their jobs, the incidence of engines breaking down is lessened, or you have fewer dud torpedoes (which I think they did do in SH4, but you get the idea).

To me, the crew experience/morale thing is okay as long as it doesn't get too involving. I think reknown in SH3 is fine. One could argue it not only models one's tonnage record but bureaucratic favor trading and brown-nosing the flotilla commander all in one which translates into new gear or boats. But I seem to remember a preview talking on unlockable areas and that just sounds too "gamey".

It's funny, gamers complained a few years back about how CRPGs were a dying breed. "Why aren't they making new RPGs?" Now they make RPGs and try to convert everything else into an RPG. :)
Can you imagine this kind of LARP-talk going on at a Falcon 4.0 forum? They'd string us up! Actually, that's not a bad idea. I'm gonna head over to there now and do some trollin'! Wish me luck! :salute:

A little suggestion: take out the music player.
It dumbs down my navigator, and probably somebody else's as well. The articles are enough music. ;)

Ibelieve it is OK. The first screen is by SHV and it has the copy write info.

The rest of the screens and reviews show who there from with credits.

Um, shouldn't that be 'Silent Hunter 5 Preview'? A review would suggest this title has already been released :03:

I don't like the water. The waves are too big compared to the sub. It looks like a small model they use in movies. But the interiors are well made, although the camera seems a bit stiff. I hope they fix that. And what's with the sailors? They look too old! And I hope they put english voices too in the game. Those subtitles are too distracting for a game.

It looks like a small model they use in movies.
For the distant sceens they used a 1:10 scaled model. The conning tower was 1:1 for the sceens the crew is acting on it and for the harbour sceens they had a raft that was tugged.

The waves are too big compared to the sub.I guess you´ve never been on an atlantic trip in real?
