There's no way they'll do this lol. We've been asking for this type of feature for years, and Ubi apparently has no intention of even acknowledging such a request.

As such, modders have been hard at work doing these sorts of things. I remember that when SH3 came out, this guy made a playable Battleship Bismarck mod- which was pretty good IMO.

I have this dream too...DC2 or whatever it's name will be

Maybe it's not so interesting to sailing around in a Destroyer, even thou the graphics a.s.o would be up-to-date (for me, it will!)

But if they made some kind of mods/patch/addon, that we can buy* and install into the SHV folder, so some, or all of the Destroyers became playable what then?

Would it then be interesting to "steer" a destroyer and guard some merchies like we did in the SHII-DC online games?

* For those who's interested in controlling a destroyer in an online-game

SH4 already included playable destroyers in MP. Maybe they've refined from that idea and come up with something much better. :hmmm:

Can increase sales if we can play destroyer for SH5.
Online needs of the submarine's pleyer and destroyer's player, and then only submarine single-line is very boring.

iam sorry, but the whole community is awaiting this... we requested it to much and to often in the past... maybe some just gave it up and get tired to ask for this most important feature :dead:

...the "Adversial Mode" of SH4 was nothing compared to the possibilitys we had with Destroyer Command !

The problem is that by doing this it will no longer be a submarine sim - it'll be a hybrid naval sim. The amount of work needed to integrate playable surface units properly would be massive: you'd need to accurately model armour schemes and penetration tables, properties of different projectiles, surface ship physics, accurately modelled fire control, new interiors, much larger crew interface. You'd have to find a way to incorporate a realistic way of using Asdic, Huff-Duff and radar. All new damage control that is completely different in concept and application to sub practice. New models, since you're always seeing them up-close.

I don't see how this could be done without diluting one aspect - sub/ship - or other, and probably both. To be honest, I think it'd only be possible as a very big add-on. Realistically, you could only really do it justice by incorporating it from the beginning.

Sadly, wargaming isn't in the position it was 10, 15, 20 odd years ago. Then we had Silent Service, Great Naval Battles, M1 Tank Platoon, Team Yankee, Battle of Britain, 1942: Pacific Air War, Pacific Strike, SH1, Panzer General, the Avalon Hill games, Aces of The Deep and the rest of the Aces series. Today proper WWII, much less WWI, sims and strategy games are few and far between. PCs in those days were largely owned by geeks - like me - who by their nature often had a fascination with the WWI and WWII eras. In fact, wargames probably made up a disproportionate number of releases then.

yea right, but nobody is saying this all have to be in one game, they just have to create a new surface sim like destroyer command, maybe also with cruisers and battleships, so we are able to play against each other... or have also nice engangements with fleets and so on, i mean they just have to create the interriors, crew and systems and some new sounds... what is the problem ?

Maybe we'll have the option to command ASW units on allied side...I've read something about the possibility to play "both sides"...although there are no information about this feature...
