I like very much the concept, and the tabs dividing categories are most useful

For warships I would leave just one per page, including "photographs" below the silhouette, and in the silhouette you could highlight with a red circle the most important characteristic of the ship which differentiates it from others, as is done in the real Weyer's Taschenbuch :yep:

Finally, if you could find a way to allow direct setting of the mast heigth in the stadimeter like the US boats interface currently allows, that would be the perfect complement :D

P.S. I forgot:

The Weyer's Taschenbuch has detailed info per ship divided by countries, and then also a set of tables with very small silhouettes ordered by ship class -all countries mixed together- so as to quickly identify first the ship and then get teh details.

Hi Mikhayl
Found you. The bookmarker tags will help greatly in ease of use, it's starting to come together.

If possible make it so one can identify the ships here and not in the small booklet now.

Nice:up:

But I wil delete the warships directly:rotfl:

I have never seen a bigger warship than a DD...

When I see one I will guess the high;)

is it possible to make a printable version???

I dont know if you recall the kplt handbook for sh2.... it printed as a booklet and had a lot of info...

I dont know if I have the pdf somewhere but it was cool :hmm:

This is the German sil, as you can see there's hell of a lot of measurements, I have placed the numbers were it wouldn't clutter things up, theirs are underneath the line. In addition the rest of the info is under the sil.

It looks good but measuring the distance between the masts of ~200 ships would be kind of a pain :D
I knew you'd say that. I might put a couple of important ones in.

Slowly one by one it can be done. It's sure worth it

But more important would be in my opinion the heigth measure at various points (Funnel, bridge, kingpost....) :hmm:

The horizontal length measurements are at the same height of what their measuring. There looks to be 3 or 4 parallel measurements going across the ship and at the end is the height of each line. What I showed in the diagram is a simple demonstration.

Btw, do you know how to translate "Engine aft", "Ore carrier", "split freighter" and "composite freighter" in German ? :D

I would say: ''Kutter''(=pl.) , ''Erzfrachter''(=pl.), ''Frachtschiff''(pl.: Frachtschiffe) and ''Mischgut Frachter''(=pl.)

But I am not sure. Better take this than the english names:rotfl: When you find another solution, take this one then.

The translations suck, also I think I'll try to rework all the silhouettes (only converted 31 so far) so that they will all have the same scale.
I'll get back to it once my eyes recover their natural shape

LOL well german is a language with declinations, so definitely there's something wrong when the same gender (Masculine) word like "Schiff" gets a different ending in the adjective "Gross" and "Mittler" despite being both the same case (Nominative)

But jokes aside the manual looks superb  Looking forward to have it in the game :D

Hitman
07-21-2008, 08:35 AM
I knew it wasn't right but I have no idea what's correct

But good idea anyway to put one with each ending, so you have a 50% right. Reminds me of my days back at school exams :rotfl:

I will use one different scale for each category, but when you compare ships on the same tab you'll have a real idea of the size.

Yes, would have suggested that myself

Before you release it, you can give it me...
I can't translate english to German perfectly, but I see wether you written endings wrong:up:

(BTW: ÖÖÖÖööööö ÄÄÄÄäää , you can't do that:rotfl: )

Hi Mikhayl,
reffering to your first post, I think it should read "Verdrängung" and not "Verdrangüng" for displacement. But other that that, süperb wörk, äs ällwäys

That's looking really good, with some neat touches, I do like the pop out tabs. It looks as if it was always part of the game. You've surge well ahead of me.
I see you're doing a printout as well. I nearly forgot to leave a bit more room on one side for the book binding.

I can see a possible problem with ingame manual, The SIZE of it. The printout will be ok as I can split it up. I won't know definately until the raw files are in their correct format.

I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Because of the in-game manual problems, is the reason I was going to try and strip it down to basics (saves memory) and use it just for target entry only. Would really be nice to tie that to the new manual.

Ok, it would look something like that when finished :

That is masterful! I would take that in German before the standard one in English, and I don't speak German!:up::up::up::up:

One thing to keep in mind (here we go with the language again :D) it's "Knoten" not "knotten"

this is definitely a must-have in progress

Now that we are at it....the tab labelled "Kriegschiffe" should be "Kriegsschiffe", with two "s" and not just one

The beauty of the printable version is that it will also work for both SH3 & 4

I don't know what you guys are on, but try imitate these letters:

æ/Æ, ø/Ø and å/Å - all three only used in Denmark and Norway. Sweden uses the å/Å though.

Just a small FYI if you should go to DK:
"mère" (mother) resembles the Danish word "mær" in pronounciation, except that the voyal is not long. Pay attention though that the Danish word does not mean mother, but "bitch" ;)

sorry to go off topic...

regarding this rec.manual work, does it include rework of:
data\menu\skins\german\data\recognitionmanual.dds ?

the reason for asking is because I have altered it too for my periscope/uzo mod

Any more updates on this project? - it looks awesome!

By the way:

good free .pdf editor

If you use MS Word, try CutePDF..it is free.

http://www.cutepdf.com/

How it works:

Once installed, open up MS Word and the document you wish to convert to pdf. When ready to convert, click on PRINT. When the print window opens, switch the printer to CutePDF and click OK.

It will start to compile and when close to being done, will pop-up a save window - choose your destination (I sound like a travel agent), save and a few moments later. Voila!

Cheers,

Also, openoffice lets you save any document as a PDF file, plus it's a free whole office software package, compatible with "the other" office suite, and lots of other stuff...
