View Full Version : New Shipping in SHIV Add-On?

I actually haven't picked up the new SHIV add-on yet, and I was curious as to what new ships are included (I am particularly interested in new merchants). I have already seen the screenshots in the screenshot thread, but I was wondering if someone had a comprehensive list including both new names and nation rosters. I am already aware of the following new ships:

UK:
- Fiji class CL
- J class DD
- V/W class DD
- Flower class corvette
- River class frigate

Germany:
- Graf Spee class CA

Merchants:
- Generic large tanker that actually looks like a T3 kitbash.
- UK Hog Island Type A freighter.
- Medium Modern Passenger/Cargo vessel (rather ugly, I might add:p).

Most of these I have seen in Rolf Eschke's screenshots, although some of those were of ships already included in stock SHIV (such as the GE auxiliary cruiser, armed trawler and tugboat). I would just like to know what other new ships there are, and to what nations they have been assigned (also, the exact nations of the above ships would be greatly appreciated). Thanks.:)

There's also a British Medium Old Tanker included with the addon, but it would be far more accurate to call it Dutch Medium Old Tanker! (Anybody know how to alter this????) "Paula" was one of a class of four, but three served under the Dutch flag- "Paula" herself was scuttled in Tandjong Priok harbour in March 1942, salved by the Japanese and subsequently entered the Tenno's service; she was found sunk in shallow waters in Singapore harbour at the end of the war, raised and returned to her owners. I've made a small mod which corrects the British roster, adds "Paula" and her two sisters to the Dutch roster and also adds an entry to the Japanese roster for the period "Paula" was in Japanese hands.

I haven't gotten my disk yet, but what does the names.cfg in Roster look like? I'd be interested in the new ship types.

The ship types are at the top of that file.

It's too bad though that they didn't convert the Small Coastal Vessel, Small Tanker (actually Patapsco class) and Armed Merchants Cruiser (which would have made a good converted transport) from SHIII while they were adding those SHIII warships. Those three would have been good additions, as they are useful to the Allied rosters and are also quite good models.:-? However, I wouldn't bother adding the SHIII T2 (bad model), C2, C3 (also a very bad model), Passenger Liner, Fishing Boat, or Trawler.

@ Kapitan Phillips - I think M. Sarsfield was just joking about the poor quality of a few SHIII models by comparing them to SHII, which was actually a pretty lousy game in and of itself.:lol: However, ironically, SHII had a more accurate T2 tanker model than SHIII, although the poly count was lower.

However, if one looks at the stock SHIII Small Merchant (NKSs) one will see that it is a higher-poly version of the Small Cargo from SHII.:o

There seem to be a fair few of them cropping up in small convoys too. Always a pleasure to sink them, very easy on the eye when they come into periscope view.

THAT is cool. 2 new escorts types. Note that for non-escorts you can add new types at will. The plus being that they don't show up (or not in SH4) in the rec manual. This is a good thing since you can add variant ships without clogging up the rec manual.

Not necessarily. The Germans modified one of their Type II U-boats in the Black Sea to carry short-range artillery rockets for shore bombardment of Soviet rear-area facilities, and were thinking hard about how to use U-boats to tow a V-2 guided missile launch platform close enough to the U.S. to bombard the east coast of the U.S.

Oh well, my mistake for being lazy and quickly relying on a tertiary reference - in this case the GWX 2.0 manual. I guess you better get the caption for the photo corrected then. ;) :p

The River class lacks any AA guns, many of the new freighters lack guns and crew altogether.

I have given the river AA guns on the starboard side of platforms carrying reflectors.
I have given paula 3 AA guns (nodes were in there already) and melody also. Given them a few extra crew.

Also made copies of melody (ryuun maru) and hog island (enzyu maru) for japanese side and added japanese gunners and crew to these. However most of the new ships lack a node for a deck gun (can be added easily) but they also lack a good spot for one and Ill have to work out firing arcs for the sim file too I think).

Actually I've been working on a few ship node problems. I felt the original japanese warships lacked adequate ASW weapons so I've been upgrading them. According to a reference book I have Akizuki's had 6 throwers, Shiratsuyu had 2 y guns etc etc, so I've been adding nodes to them. After I had played the U-boat campaign and encountered a River Class with 10 throwers, 2 racks and HHog (basically the toughest ASW loadout ever in Silent Hunters) which can only inspire utter dread in a U-boat Kapitain, I elected to upgrade the IJN escorts a bit to make the US campaign more interesting.

Akizuki 2 racks 4 throwers upgraded to 2 racks 6 throwers - QUITE NASTY NOW...
(also replaced the 4 TT tubes with the Long Lance turret version)

Asashio 1 rack (Rubbish for ASW!!!) upgraded to 1 rack and 2 Y-Guns (effectively 4 throwers) NOT BAD
Fubuki 2 racks upgraded to 2 racks and 4 throwers
Minekaze 2 racks and 2 throwers upgraded to 2 racks and 4 throwers
Mutsuki 2 racks - no upgrade yet
Shiratsuyu 2 racks plan to upgrade to 2 rack and 2 Y guns.


Buckley DE - HHog and main armament clash - removed M01 gun to NULL after HHOG added.


I will upload these if people want them, they also contain the sensors fixes (radar and hydrophone) that someone else posted weeks ago.
I've tested them and they use all the new throwers to give larger patterns, just need to finish off a few more. Any thoughts / comments please..?
Combined with sim files changes that make the sonar and hydrophone more sensitive this should give people something to worry about, though I have noticed many times the throwers are fired early in the pattern instead of being spread "through the run".

I see 20 mm gun nodes on the River Class in the EQP file. Do they not show up in-game?

Also, about the Enzyu Maru, was this really a Hog Island type of merchant ship? The only thing I can find on it is this:
