View Full Version : Targeting "assisted" by the Weapons Officer?

First of all, apologize for my English.
I looked around but I was not able to find an answer.
I remember from SH3 that it was possible to have (officialy two, but in fact) three targeting options:
1) full auto;
2) full manual;
3) manual but with the assistance of the WO.
From what I remember, even after choosing manual targeting, it was possible to ask the Weapons officer to make all the "hard work" with the TDC...I'd lock on target, press this "special" button et....... voilà.
Now, in regards of SHIV (stock and add on), despite what the manual is saying, is it possibile to have this feature back? Mod?

I want more things like that. More crew interaction the better. It needs to feel more like an actual trained crew at your disposal, and I as skipper.

I agree. I like the option on the fleet boats of the WO being able to identify ships and the crew plotting target course and speed based on your observations. Just like the motto from Call of Duty, "No One Fights Alone." I think they implemented the course and speed option with the add-on, too.

As Manuel from "Fawlty Towers" would say "Que"!?

Have I missed something?

Trigger Maru Overhauled or just add my stolen fair and square Trigger Maru keyboard commands (http://files.filefront.com/Alternate+Key+Bindings7z/;9762884;/fileinfo.html). Shift-i gets a quick identification of the target. Take two stadimeter observations sent to the TDC 10 seconds or more apart and then the stopwatch button on the speed input part of the TDC will give you an estimate of target speed and course. Seems pretty assisted to me, and pretty well the same as SH3.

One thing I like about it is that you get what you pay for. That free estimate is often free of good information.

I've learned to wait a few minutes before taking a second observation and asking for crew input on speed and course. Close targets showing their broadside make a big difference, too. Lots of errors if the target is far away with small AoB.

If you have all that time, you also have time for a much more accurate proper plot. I use the crew estimate speed and course for if I have to administer a coup de grace after I've shot my carefully set up first volley. He's going by me and I don't have a lot of time. Then I'm real close anyway (I shoot under 800 yards/meters range) and the error is usually acceptable.

I run into a lot of single merchants and I've gotten really good at setting myself up in front of them. So, I have a lot of leisure time on my hands. One of the perks of running out of Freemantle.

I too, have learned to take with a large grain of salt the crew estimates of speed and course. I don't feel confident unless I use the three-minute method of calculating speed and course using the nomograph. For me, it's nearly flawless.

However, I would like in SH4 to able to ask Weps to give me a solution and have it all fed to the TDC, like you could in SH3. I wouldn't necessarily want the solution to be perfect, rather it would be affected by crew experience, fatigue, indigestion, etc.

It's funny though, if I'm skippering U-boats, I don't mind using automatic targeting because it feels natural somehow to rack up large numbers of tonnage. When I'm driving fleet boats, I want to really have to work at kills. I guess it's all in where one finds the immersion factor to be the richest.

The nomograph is indeed a genius work :)
I use both the nomo and the periscope to estimate speed. I compare the two and then i know if the speed is a good read :)

If tried to use the automated targeting but I keep missing more torpedo’s then on manual. But on the other hand if I use automatic targeting in the American campaign I can make impossible shots. I don’t understand is their a bug or something that doesn’t allow me the make auto shots in the German campaign?

Please don't use black font color some people use the default background Stghardass.

That ship ID button in Trigger Maru is really useful. Identifying ships is the hardest part for me, especially in the dark. Once you have the correct ID of the ship, the rest is quite easy.
